Division 1 of the J. League the top-tier of soccer in the country. The club finished the 2009 J.
League season in second position. As a result, they have qualified for the 2010 AFC Champions

I'm not going to start covering Chinese football but this story caught my eye. Given that they have
four teams in the AFC Champions League, and given that two teams have ben caught cheating, should
they continue to have four representatives at Asian football's showcase event?
It's Saturday afternoon here in southern Cambodia and I know it's a little late to finally be
publishing this, but for the sake of completeness, here it is. Wifi has been pretty iffy for me in
Sihanoukville, so this is the earliest I've been able to produce this.
For the record, I'd like to congratulate our two newest continental champions, which will be
joining Inter Milan for the Club World Cup, as Congo DR's TP Mazembe took home a second consecutive
CAF Champions League title while Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma brought home yet another AFC Champions
League title to South Korea.
Sriwijaya v Persebaya 2-1 (Keith Kayamba Gumbs, Rahmat Rivai; Korineus Finkreuw)
It took a last minute goal from Rahmat Rivai to earn Sriwijaya three points and their first win in
five against Persebaya yesterday after the Surabaya club had taken the lead.
On Saturday the Copa Indonesia winners play Singapore Armed Forces at Jalan Besar in Singapore in
an AFC Champions League Qualifier and you have to say the Warriors will be favourites given the
Palembang's poor results recently.
Tomorrow sees Sriwijaya take on SAF in the AFC Champions League qualifier in Singapore. I reported
the other day how the team from Palembang in South Sumatra were having financial worries but I
didn't realise things were this humiliating.
The AFC expects clubs at the qualifying stage to provide their own expenses.
Defending Korean K-League champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Football Club are gearing up for the
2010 domestic and AFC Champions league seasons. This weekend the Greens presented their 2010 team
and hummel home and away kits to their fans in an elaborate ceremony. Once the kit provider of the
Danish national team, hummel is known for some [.
Following SAFFC's famous first victory in the AFC Champions League against Henan Jianye their
merchandising team has gone into overdrive.
You can now buy official replica shirts just like what the team wore that night. Buy the shirt and
not only do you get the shirt, they will throw in a free bag as well!
Yesterday's three points for Persipura against Arema means that with each team having five games
left to play there are just four points separating them at the top.
1 - Arema 29 19 3 7 43-14 60
2 - Persipura 29 15 11 3 56-29 56
Both teams end the season with three home games and two away.

Seven teams have been competing in Abu Dhabi over the past week in the 2010 FIFA Club World
Cup: Inter Milan (Italy), Pachuca (Mexico), Internacionale (Brazil), TP Mazembe (Congo DR),
Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma (South Korea), Al-Wahda Sports Club (UAE), and Hekari United FC (Papua Ne
Guinea). The final is set for Saturday: Inter Milan vs, surprisingly, TP Mazembe.
Just been watching a re run of Indonesia's first AFF Cup semi final against the Philippines and for
a moment I couldn't believe my ears. One of the commentators was describing the hard work being put
in by one of the Indonesian strikers. The pressure he was giving defenders, the tracking back, his
movement.
The 2010 J-League champions Nagoya Grampus Eight are out of this year's Emperor's Cup. The main
knockout tournament in Japanese football plays its final three rounds this week and Stoppage
Time International Football Blog reviews the quarter-finals which were played today.
The Emperor's Cup grants a berth to the 2011 AFC Champions League for the winner so there was a
lot at stake in each of today's last eight showdowns.
Cometh the hour, cometh Yasuhito Endo as one of Asian football's genuine stars took control
of the 89th Emperor's Cup final at the National Stadium in Tokyo.
The recently crowned Asian footballer of the year scored twice and laid on another as Gamba Osaka
overpowered Nagoya Grampus 4-1 in front of 42,140 fans, who turned out in bright sunshine in the
Japanese capital.
It now looks like Persipura Jayapura will be using Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta for their AFC
Champions League games. Their own Mandala Stadium is currently undergoing renovations and won't be
ready in time though reports suggest they will be allowed to change stadium should they get past
the group stage.
Last season's Super League Champions Persipura are just a month away from their first foray into
the AFC Champions League. With their Mandala Stadium in Jayapura being renovated at the moment they
will be forced to play their home games in the group stage at the Bung Karno in Jakarta, their ISL
games being played in Makassar.
Sriwijaya v Persik
Copa Indonesia winners have yet to impose themselves on this ISL season and find themselves sitting
10th with 15 games gone. Just a single win in their last seven games, and that a narrow 1-0 against
struggling PSPS, shows Rahmad Darmawan's men aren't having the best of times when you consider next
weekend they travel to Singapore to take on Singapore Armed Forces in an AFC Champions League Play
Off.

SINGAPORE, 26 January 2010: S.League Champions Singapore Armed Forces FC (pictured above) and the

Indonesia's World Cup bid may be dead in the water. With government support lacking there is next
to no chance of Indonesia's bid being accepted by FIFA who require FAs to show government support
for all applications.
But support here has been lukewarm at best with the governemnt thought to prefer prioritising a
strong league and regional presence.
It's not often one of the many cases backlogged at FIFA gets acted upon. But Persikabo could well
rue the day they didn't do what they were supposed to have done, I don't know what they didn't do
or what they should have done (apologies to non native speakers for that!) that led to them being
reported to FIFA.
AFC is tightening the requirements of clubs who wish to compete in its flagship competitions the

Of course this is all fine and huky dory and assumes the National Association is competent.
Hats off to Indonesian football. The FA and clubs have decided to fund football development in less
well off parts of Asia by ingnoring existing rules and regulations thereby incurring fines to be
paid to the AFC. Fair play says I.
AFC Asian Cup 2011 Qualifiers: The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has been

19.45 Leeds Utd v Millwall, League One, Sky Sports 1/HD1
A fixture to leave an unpleasant taste in the mouth of any fan of football, unless of course you
have a misguided nostalgia for "firms" and British Rail football specials. Leeds have a cushion of
12 points in the automatic promotion spots, Millwall's hold on a play-off place is less secure but
their form suggests they have what it takes.

Monday 12 April
19.45 Swindon Town v Exeter City, League One, Sky Sports 1/HD1
Swindon are currently in the box seat to join Norwich for automatic promotion from League 1. Still
six games to go though and they're under huge pressure from Millwall and Charlton (but not from
Leeds).
Is there a better coach in the world than Mihailo Petrovic?
Many would argue that Jose Mourinho stands on the edge of greatness
after steering Inter to a UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May 22.
Sixteen teams will now participate in the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League
The AFC Champions League group stage has reached its conclusion and "Stoppage Time –

Mauricio Molina scored twice in Seongnam's 3-0 victory over Gamba Osaka
The AFC Champions League round of 16 has taken place over the last two days. Unlike in the later
knockout rounds which are of a two-legged nature each tie in this round is decided over one game so
it is always crucial to gain home advantage in this stage of the competition.
Pohang Steelers are the defending AFC Champions League holders
The quarter-final draws for Asian club competition were made in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on
Tuesday and there are some intriging ties. The Asian Champions League is dominated by South Korean
clubs who made up half of the eight teams remaining at this stage of the tournament.

Shimuzu S-Pulse (in orange) currently lead the way in Japan's "J League"
With the FIFA World Cup only days away the three biggest leagues in Asian football are taking a
break ahead of the big kick-off in South Africa on Friday, June 11th. Although China has failed to
qualify for the FIFA World Cup the Chinese Super League has taken a break until July 14th along
with Japan's J League whilst the South Korean K League returns three days later

There might not be a lot of football going on this weekend, but just as soon as the weekend is
over, we have a very full month of footie ahead. Here's a brief look at everything coming up in the
world of football, so you can plan your couch time appropriately. There are many more league games
than the ones we've listed, of course we've tried to pick out some highlights.
Eight teams remain in the AFC Champions League
The AFC Champions League, Asia's elite football competition, is back in action after a four
month holiday and it proved to be a mixed bag for the South Korean quartet who make up half of the
quarter-final draw. In the AFC Cup, the secondary competition equivalent to the UEFA Europa League
or Copa Sudamericana, Middle Eastern clubs continue to dominate with five teams from that region
remaining in the tournament whilst the other three quarter-finalists hail from the south east of
the continent.
