Asia. Football is teaching me all about the Asian cities and countries. If it's Tashkent it must be
Uzbekistan and THREE Canberrans, including Goulburns favourite player Chris Bush are included in
the Australian Under 16 side. FFA Release below.

Maybe you've heard (though it's just as likely you haven't), but Liverpool have themselves a little
brother. If you've ever dreamed of 'a team full of Carraghers'... A nice, quick read from the
Guardian concerning AFC Liverpool.
All of Asia's major club football rivalries: Featured Derby: The Tehran Derby, Tehran, Iran

In this section, we give our take on one of the most hotly-contested issues in US Soccer. In a
brief September 8th article, we brought up the debate on the difficulty of CONCACAF away
Qualifiers, citing Ives Galarcep's "Hazards of road qualifiers" and Luis Bueno's
"Debunking the myth." While looking through Soccer by Ives this morning [.
Australia left it late to defeat Bahrain 1-0 in Manama in today's FIFA World Cup 2010 qualifier. A
draw seemed inevitable for a Socceroo side missing established stars such as Tim Cahill, Harry
Kewell and Joshua Kennedy. However in the fourth minute of stoppage time, veteran Marco Bresciano
popped up to score a winner that broke Bahraini [.
John Duerden at the Guardian has written a very interesting piece about Australia's
two-and-a-half-year marriage with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
A key quote:
"The couple may not be in love but have much to offer each other. The AFC got a high-profile,
wealthy and professional member, and, as Nan Yong hinted, protection against any future attempts to
reduce Asia's coveted four ½ spots at the World Cup.
Should we qualify for the next stage of the World Cup, we are seeded one. And with a little luck we could definitely miss Korea Rep (2) possibly Iran (3) and even Japan who could be seeded (5)
>so a likely scenario with a tad of luck could be Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Qatar or North Korea.

Can't help but let out a little cheer for the National Youth League which kicked off on the
weekend. Australia has been missing this development stage now for a few years and it is fantastic
to once again see a national comp for future Socceroos and A-League players.
Of course this first year is going to be pretty low key and I am not sure what the crowds are going
to be like but the point is that we will now have year round competition for our up and coming
youth.
Australia have been drawn with Turkmenistan, Chinese Taipei and Japan for the tournament to be held
in Bangkok, May 11-18.
Top 4 in the tournament qualify for the World Cup later this year in Brazil.

You can also access Brendan's view on the report here. Organisation - 13/20 In this category,

nations scored well.
Uzbekistan delivered a frightening and absolutely sensational performance as they hammered
Singapore 7-3. The fourth Uzbek goal was top-class: Here are some quick thoughts on the game: For
the first 30 minutes, Singapore showed absolute dogged determination against their technically
superior opponents and came back to equalise twice after being down.
Just got a text from Keano chastening me for the blog neglect lately. Sorry, babe. I admit, the
past week I've gone way overboard on the whole Oranje thing, but you know my heart is still big ol'
red and white stripes. And it's been pretty quiet over at Sunderland AFC, as we wait for those big
Brazilian/Portuguese/Croatian superstar signings that are just around the corner.
Heather Garriock and Collette McCallum nominated, but unlikely to win this year I reckon. AFC
Release below.
KUALA LUMPUR: Two players each from the semi-finalist teams of the recently concluded AFC Women's
Asian Cup figure in the first list of contenders for the coveted AFC Women's Player of the Year
award released by AFC today.
Big smile on my face right now !
In the end the draw was not prefect but it isn't far from it. As the young lady from the AFC was
preparing to select the teams from the final pot tonight I looked at the two groups and said a
quick little prayer for Group A. And it seems for once the God of Draws smiled upon us.
AFC World Cup Qualifier Round 4 Tonight at 7pm our time in Kualar Lumpur, the draw for round 4 of

AFC has implemented a new 3+1 rule where Asian clubs are now able to include another foreign player

AFC President wants Wellington Phoenix out of the A-League in 2011 because they are a New Zealand
side.
And undoubtedly this would be great for Canberra..providing an extra place...
but I say no! The Phoenix must stay.
They've proved their worth, have spent millions getting the team going, made a huge mistake not
starting a Canberra Youth Team franchise this year, but have made significant signings in Jon
McKain, Andrew Durante and now FRED!
Football / Headquarters: Singapore interested! The Football Association Of Singapore has declared
interest to bring the AFC to Singapore and joined Qatar and UAE in pursuit to house the

Singapore has a chance as among the minimum criteria the [.
Happen to be at Jalan Besar Stadium and saw these two notices
The top is a notice to inform the public that the plastic surface of the stadium will be closed for
upgrading from 7/12/2008 -31/1/2009.
While the second notice (before the first) informed the national team's upcoming home schedule will
be played on the 28th January 2009, against the Jordanians in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
The Aussie World Cup schedule is a "ball-buster," according to Socceroo Jason Culina
interviewed by SBS this week.
If Australia get through the next four June World Cup Qualifiers we have six games against the
likes of Japan, Iran and Uzbekistan all before December.
Six!
Ban the Chinese
Adelaide United qualified for the next leg of the Asian Champions League. A hard, nervy fought 0-0
draw was enough. For me the best player on the park was Aurelio Vidmar, closely followed by Nathan
Burns. A great result for Adelaide and Australia.
But what about the Changchun fans.

The latest FIFA rankings came out last Wednesday and it seems Australia has move up 8 places to be
now ranked at the 35th best team in the World. We have also moved ahead of Japan to be the number
one ranked team in the AFC.
Does it mean anything though?
The ranking system is a complex formula that takes into account matches from the last four years,
each year receives a different weighting and results in each year are averaged.
Korea DPR beat out China 2-1 in the final of the 2008 AFC Women's Championship, regaining the title

David Johnson has hailed the formation of AFC Liverpool and believes the club could prove to be the
modern day alternative to the 'boy's pen.'
The former Reds striker feels the new non-league outfit - who will be playing at Prescot Cables'
Valerie Park Ground next season in the Vodkat League - will give supporters with children more
chance to afford tickets and, most importantly, provide them with an opportunity to learn the
'Liverpool way.
Sunderland manager Roy Keane is finally back in the office and speaking to the press. Personally, a
month without Keano-speak is 29.5 days too long for me. And as always, Roy has something
interesting to say: this time about the thirst for success that is driving his management
ambitions.
