Sorry for the delay for this one. AEKMAN74 posted a good summary of the game which you can check
out as well.
Well, my Father and I decided that since I only have half a year left in Greece before I,
unfortunately, have to return to North America for university (don't get me wrong, I love North
America, I just don't know how long I'll be able to stay away from AEK) we'd go up to Thessaloniki
and watch this one so I could experience a proper away game.
The matches have now been confirmed:-Sunday July 25:
Game 1 at 12:45pm – Sydney FC vs AEK Athens FC
Game 2 at 3pm – Blackburn Rovers vs Glasgow Rangers
Wednesday July 28:

All matches are at the Sydney Football Stadium.
AEK Athens could only manage a 0-0 draw with PAOK Saloniki today. Dusan Bajevic had this to
say after the match:
We started well in the first 10 minutes and they only deserved the first half. We got the rhythm
of PAOK and did nothing remarkable. In the second half we played better but we had no pace and we
could not do anything.
Now, in my opinion we didn't play the best football we could have but, WHO CARES!!!! It was the
last game of the season, what mattered most was the result. And, to top things off, Aris also won
which mean Oly finishes fifth in the league! IM LOVING IT!!!!
Alright, as I mentioned in the post before Oly had a very depleted squad.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos, without a doubt one of the biggest prospects in Greek football, and
former AEK defender, will soon seal the deal on a move to Italian giants AC Milan. He previously
played for Genoa and had two very successful seasons with the club (he started often, was loved by
the fans, and from what I saw gave some memorable performances).
AEK traveled to Scotland for the first leg of their Europa League qualification playoff tie and
did enough. We were solid enough in defense, controlled the midfield for large parts of the game,
and showed some creative flair up top. The only goal was created by Scocco who played the ball to
Lago who ran the left flank and sent in a composed cross on the ground behind Dundee's back-line to
Djebbour who cooly finished it off.
Well, I couldn't see the match unfortunately, so all I got right now is a video:
Well, all I can say is we were lucky. PAO had a few incredible chances to score a few goals but
were either stopped by the post or Arabatzis. But, they never should have won in the first round
against us so it's all good
We started without Makos which was great news. Our starting XI was Arabatzis, Araujo,
Majstorovic, Geraldo, Karabelas, Manduca, Kafes, Jahic, Blanco, Scocco, and Djebbour.
Firstly, for those of you with a facebook account, AEKArchives now has a page. Nothing
special, just updates of posts, some links every now and then and this sort of stuff.
Also, for anyone using Mozilla Firefox, some new AEK persona's are available and I must say, the
look quite good!
First of all, Happy Easter to everyone celebrating today.
Well, because of the the Easter Holidays there were no matches this weekend and therefore not so
much to comment on. However, there has been some news lately.
Hull lost over the weekend, 2-0 to Stoke, meaning they still remain in the relegation zone.
Reports coming out of Greece suggest that the upcoming match with Levadeiakos has been fixed.
Levadeiakos are in a fight for survival and currently only sit one point above the relegation zone
and some are saying that AEK will let them win this match so they stay up. Many betting companies
(both in Greece and abroad) have started giving some pretty crazy odds such as around 1.
We left Livadia last night with one point from a draw, enough to seal us fourth place as Aris
fall 2-1 to Tripolis. Nothing spectacular really but a game worth commentating on regardless.
So, despite the 0-0 scoreline, both teams had some considerable chances to get a few in the net
with the majority of them coming from Levadeiakos in the first half.
First of all, it's been a while since I lasted posted and quite a bit has happened since
then.
Well, we beat Tripolis in our last regular season game, 2-0 at home. A rather eventful game in
fact so I'll go through some of it here.
We started with a different line up than what was being predicted by most, the main reason for
this being the fact that several players (Scocco, Blanco, Araujo, Arce, Saja, Roger, and others)
were out partying two nights before the game until the early morning hours.
According to sites here in Greece, Liverpool have agree to allow Nemeth to stay with us for one
more season. Fabulous news! All that remains is for Nemeth himself to agree, and while nothing
official has been said, he has stated in the past that he would have no problem with staying for
another year.
Ok, we were terrible today. We did turn things up a bit in the second half which ended with
Nemeth messing up a sitter. But aside from that, we were terrible, and lucky.
However, we scored a PERFECTLY LEGIT goal, scored by the Great Manolas yet for some reason (oh
wait, there is a reason and we all know it), it was dissalowed by the ref.
Due to yesterday's death in Athens as a result of large protests and riots, today's games
between AEK-Aris and PAOK-Olympiakos have been called off and will be scheduled for another date. I
haven't heard news yet about when that date will be.
More details here.
So, we drew to PAOK and Lost to Oly. Things were looking very bad and people were wondering
"what's wrong with the players???". Well, I don't know what was wrong with them but yesterday's 4-2
win against Aris saw a completely different team on the pitch. Sure, a little late to start playing
some football but better late than never and to be honest we still have a chance of getting
something worthwhile out of these playoffs if we keep this up.
So, we drew 1-1 with Aris in Thessaloniki while PAOK beat Olympiakos 1-0, in Karaiskaki! To be
honest I only watched the final half hour of the match but from what I heard it was pretty
uneventful, especially the first half which ended 0-0. I will say though that the football I saw
from our team was not the same football we played five days before.
Yes, that's right, the beloved Number 33 has returned to the club where he was loved for years.
He's 35 years old now and certainly not getting any younger but I will always be happy to welcome
him back to our club, especially at a time when options seem limited. Hopefully we will see some
signs of the Libe we all knew and loved.
I had little hopes for this Greece team before the World Cup actually started and now I have
none. Despite terrible choices by Otto the players were sloppy and not until the final minutes
showed much interest in scoring. We were outclassed and it was obvious early on. Un-inspirational
play but it doesn't help that a Liverpool centre-back (Kyrgiakos) and a Serie-A starting
centre-back (Papastathopoulos) don't start the match.
Well, I don't know about all of you, but I am very excited! Why? Because I finally get to see
our beloved AEK in action after nearly two months! Our opponent will be well respected Romanian
club FC Unirea. I'm curious to see all of the young players who should get some playing time. I
also can't wait to see Libe perform in our shirt once again (hopefully he does actually play).
So, for some reason (Nova claims it has nothing to do with them), the match was not broadcasted
on television (technical problems in Austria). Instead, I had to follow the match with updates from
various sites. None the less, what I read sounds very pleasing! Many reports are saying we played
incredible football, especially for this early in the pre-season.
Youssouf Hersi is leaving AEK after one season. He is returning to the Netherlands, where he is
going to play for De Graafschap, a club in the east of the country that promoted to the top
division last season. AEK and De Graafschap have agreed on the transfer of Hersi, only thing left
to do is the medical examination of the 27 year old midfielder.
Djebbour scored an early goal ten minutes into the first half to put us up 1-0. First
subsitution for AEK, Nathan Burns coming on for Leonardo. Fantastic support from the AEK fans
despite being largely outnumbered by Scottish supporters.
Seems like we nearly have an agreement with Kew Jaliens, Dutch defender for AZ Alkmaar. Dutch
papers report today that AEK told AZ they agree on the transfer money. AZ doesn't want to have a
whole lot of money for Jaliens, they just want to stop paying his salary as soon as possible.
Jaliens, who has been benched since the beginning of the season, would like to leave AZ and start
playing games again.
As I post this, our second-leg playoff match against Dundee United for the Europa League group
stage is in the 35th minute, but AEK is already 1-0 up (2-0 on aggregate) thanks to PBD!
Big Papa!

I'm downloading the match right now and will watch it when its completed. In the meantime Ill
add what I've heard being mentioned so far.
First of all, huge win! We needed a positive result to pick ourselves up after stumbling with
Anderlecht, and we did it. As AEKMAN74 stated, Manolo made a few unexpected choices, but it sounds
as thought they've paid off.
So, 2010 is now here. A whole decade has gone by once again, and while the decade did have many
down points, there were some very memorable moments for us AEK supporters.
AEK365 has some videos at the bottom of the page showing some moments we will never forget. Some
of the more memorable moments for me from this past decade were the following:
-The 1-0 victory against AC Milan.
Half time and we are up, two fantastic (and I mean FANTASTIC) goals from the one and only NACHO
SCOCCO!!
We deserve to be up, and it could have been 3-1 for us if Djebbour had controlled himself better
in a fantastic opportunity. AEK overall is the better team. Olympiakos started stronger but have
since died out and towards the middle of the first half and onwards we have turned things
around.
We're in the middle of our worst season in years (both on and off the field), but our boys know
how to turn it on for the big games, don't they?
Olympiacos? In the immortal words of Kool Rock Steady, YOU AIN'T NOBODY!!!
Full match report later today from AEKAlex.
(I guess I kind of gave my age away with the Kool Rock Steady quote, so I'll try to make up for
it with one more acronym the kids today are using: Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu both to Aris?
So our players went into this game after the first half of what has been the worst season in
AEK's history. Few fans were expecting such a win and such a pleasing performance from our boys.
But, they pulled it off (whether the 150,000 Euro bonus they were promised helped at all I dont
know) and we have begun the new decade with a fantastic win!
So, after our incredible win only five days earlier people were expecting similar things from
last nights game. We thought we were going to get it also after building a healthy 3-1 lead with
plenty of time left. The final score? 3-3
One thing was to blame for this result more than anything else.
Firstly, before anything else I'd like to post a video my cousin back in Canada made. It's a
video which contains some pictures as well as a few videos, the kind of scenes which make us proud
when we look back on them as well as give us hope for the future.
So, the official debts have been released and the numbers were alot less scary than some of the
rumours we heard a few weeks back.
Well, it wasn't a pretty win, but at the end of they day it was a well deserved three points.
One goal was scored from Djebbour (who was superb today) and two from not Blanco, not Scocco (he
didn't play in the end), not Leonardo, Hersi, or Guerreiro, but.... KAFES!
No videos up yet, I'll get some tomorrow.
Well, the big derby with PAO is this Sunday. Scocco will be fit to play for this one and while
I'm not his biggest supporter lately, I hope he puts on another display like when we played
Oly.
Apparently, Gilberto Silva might be injured for the game. That could be some good news for us if
it turns out true.
So, our excellent form in the second half of the championship continued with only one loss since
the December break. Shame we couldn't have had this form from the start of the season but oh well,
maybe next year.
Anyways, a great win away in a stadium which has only seen one loss (for the home side) before
yesterday's game this entire season.
AEK makes it two for two with PAOK this season before we face them another two times in the
playoffs. Blanco, who has scored in his last four games in Toumba, scored the only goal of the
match after a fantastic display by AEK (especially in the second half).
It's late here however, and I could use some sleep so I'll post a proper match report after
school tomorrow.
It's official as of yesterday, Adamidis is now president. And he's made a bunch of promises and
some of these promises include: he will make war with any of AEK's enemies (right now there are
many), he will do all that he can for a stadium in Nea Filadelfia, and others. Of course, these are
all just promises, but no action has yet been taken.
I really have no clue what to say. I mean, before this match, I wasn't expecting us to come out
with anything more than one point. Yet to get the full three points and to do it in such a
fantastic way... I'm speechless.
Before I go on I would like to show the lineup for today's match. In goal was Saja.
Well, Saturday came and I was all excited, waiting to watch my team continue it's undefeated
streak. Saturday evening came, I turned my television on and spent the next ninety minutes or so
watching the most depressing performance from AEK in recent memory.
Our team looked dreadful. Honestly, the score could easily have been 3-0 or more for Larissa had
our post, some luck, and a determined Saja not prevented that from happening.
