Mohamed Kallon, a striker from Sierra Leone. Tall, fast, not too old at 28, with a natural knack
for scoring goals. He was just a few months ago being linked to Portsmouth of the English Premier
League. This is really good stuff. Imagine this guy up top with Blanco. As you can see here, he
hasn't [.
The BBC and UEFA have picked up on this transfer. As I wrote on Monday, this is a good signing
for us, much more high profile than I expected during this transfer window. Let's hope Kallon
gets match fit quickly. We could certainly use him in the derbies as well as against Getafe in
February's UEFA [.
That seems to be the question on fans' minds these days. And there is no simple answer. A
quick look at the transfer market helps illustrate this question. Panathinaikos, for example,
made several multi-million dollar signings in the Summer such as star midfielder Marcelo Mattos and
are now bolstering their squad even further with the likes of [.
How do I decide when to post non-AEK-related Greek League news? When more than ten of my friends
email or text me something along the lines of: "you probably already know this but Mathis is going
to Ergotelis...wtf?!" That's right, reports in the US and Greece, have LA Galaxy striker moving to
Ergotelis.
Yesterday I reported we may be getting Valencia Defensive Midfielder Stephen Sunday on a six month
loan. Or maybe not. Elsewhere at Valencia, Sunny has turned down the opportunity to join AEK
Athens on loan until the end of the season as he wants to stay and fight for his place in Koeman's
side. Full story here.
(Summary is not available.)
This morning I looked back at my post from yesterday and realized something: there were fewer
details from the game than in my usual posts. When I watched the game on Sunday I did not take
notes as I normally do. I just watched the game. Why? I'm not sure. Perhaps I was a bit
hung [...]
It proves nothing; you know that, right? Veria F.C. was crap. We played well, but not well
enough to draw any major conclusions. Still, there were a few surprises that make me truly
hopeful about the second half of the season. The first is that Pappas had his first start of the
Greek League with AEK.
In Sunday's post (just below this one) I hinted that Ferrer may not have been as composed off
camera as he appeared on camera. The Greek press, in an interview with Veria's coach, has
confirmed that Ferrer berated Veria's coaching staff and players at half time over AEK's disputed
third goal, which looked to everyone [.
Rivaldo, Blanco and Lyberopoulos played really well together today. This hasn't always been the
case this season, with Lyberopoulos seeming to refuse to pass to Blanco even when he is unmarked.
But not today. Today, perhaps due to his own recent lousy performances, Lyberopoulos stopped
trying to be the team's goal scorer and instead, thankfully, [.
Our mid-week match against Panionios has been postponed until Sunday due to the death of Archbishop
Christodoulos. This is an important match. Panionios is ranked sixth. Regardless of ranking, they
are a decent side, more than capable of pulling off an upset against a big-three club like AEK.
We've been on [.
Ouch. With that 2-0 loss to Skoda Xanthi, we are out of the Greek Cup. Yesterday, when I found
out that Rivaldo would not be playing today, I was actually excited. I was beginning to think
Rivaldo was holding us back, slowing our pace, forcing play to move through him. Wow, was I
wrong. Without Rivaldo, we [.
I try to keep it clean, and mature, on this blog, but sometimes a callow quip just sums it up best,
don't you think? Well, here goes: Somebody's ass hurts this morning. I have a lot of friends who
support Panathinaikos, so I am not about to engage in any schadenfreude here, but it's an odd
result [..
Last time we played we beat Atromitos 2-0. That was at home and we were at full strength. Now
we play them away and without Blanco, Dellas and probably Papastathopoulos. Ferrer has not been
consistent with his line-ups when missing key players, so I can't predict how he will line up.
Instead, I will give [.
Remember that ball-winning, holding midfielder I said we needed to pick up this transfer window?
Well, we already have him. Nice to meet you Mr. Nsaliwa. Where ya been? Nsaliwa was in rare
form today. He read plays well, anticipated where the ball was going, dispossessed Atromitos in
the midfield repeatedly, and broke free of tackles [.
Nsaliwa to Manduca to Lyberopoulos for the goal. As I wrote over the weekend, Nsaliwa and Manduca
were a huge part of our win this weekend, as this clip only partially shows. Here is a lengthier
clip with more highlights: At the 1:28 mark, you can see Alves block a crucial shot. A lot of
what [.
