Bolivar U17 Girls Win Show-Me State Games

Southwest Missouri was represented by a number of teams at the recently completed Show-Me State Games in Columbia. Pictured at left are the U17 Champions, a team from Bolivar. The ladies took the first place medal with a 4-1 win over West Plains/Mt.

There is a game that I see both youth and adult soccer coaches use as a warm-up exercise that I don't think is very good or effective. I called it 'Throw-in Keepaway' but I believe there are other names for it. The game is played as follows:

• Players are divided into two teams.
• Using the proper throw-in technique (with the ball behind the head with 2 hands and the feet on the ground), the ball is passed to an open player on the same team.

The soccer programs have been dropped as a cost-cutting measure at Ozark Christian College but no other cuts in athletics are planned, according to Chris Lahm, athletics director.

Even though both men's and women's soccer were cut this month, Lahm said Monday that he hopes the absence of the programs will be temporary.

Congratulations to the Ozark Tigers and all of the teams that participated in their 2nd Annual Summer Sizzler 3v3 Tournament. The event featured over 65 teams which is capacity, and funds raised will go towards the Boys team as well as their non-profict partner this year, the Ozark Breast Cancer organization.

Former Wizards Head Coach and 2000 MLS Cup Champion Bob Gansler has been named to the 2010 Builder Ballot for the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Last season, Gansler finished second behind Bruce Arena on the Builder Ballot by one vote, with no one entering the Hall from the ballot.

This weekend Springfield gets its second taste of Futsal, a form of Brazilian indoor soccer. The 2nd Annual Total Shriner Futsal Classic, will be held at the Shrine Mosque this weekend, Friday January 23rd through Sunday January 25th.

This year 32 teams, competing in six different divisions, will be competing for the right to be called Springfield's top Futsal team.

CHICAGO (April 30, 2009) – A total of 40 teams, including 24 professional and 16 amateur clubs, will compete in the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when it kicks off in June for the 96th consecutive year.
Qualifying for the first round of the tournament is slated to be completed by May 25, with the pairings announced shortly thereafter.

Another sign that the regular season is just around the corner was Wednesday night's alumni game for the Parkview Vikings. The friendly match between the alumni and the current boys team players that are in town prior to the start of the season was held at the YMCA facilities on Republic Road.
