The worst kept secret in MLS for the past three weeks, Soler takes over the position held by one Jeff Agoos who (in tandem with one Juan Carlos Osorio) turned an MLS Cup finalist (2008) into the worst team in the league (2009).

Anyway, I'm back again. I spent the weekend looking after small children, and as anyone who looks after small children can attest, there's not a lot of scope for blogging on the side when you're in charge. Not a lot of scope for anything, in truth.

So I looked on at the Stoke win in semi-detachment, marvelling in the main at the ability of Andrei Arshavin (5ft 7½in) to lead the line.

Admission: I'm warming to Lee Bowyer. Don't tell anyone though.

Is there something wrong with me? Bowyer used to be the personification of the worst kind of footballer thuggish, mouthy, snarling etc.

But he appears to have cleaned up his act and turned into the sort of hard-working, head-down footballer every fan should want his team.
