Feilhaber's Goal sunk Mexico in the Gold Cup Final/SI.com
In the recent history of American Soccer no selection of a player to a major tournament squad
has elicited as much controversy and quite frankly anger as last week's selection by Peter Nowak of
Benny Feilhaber to the US Men's Olympic Team.
I had thought about going through each US player who saw significant playing time in the Olympics
and judging him on whether his stock rose or fell in terms of his prospects with the senior
team.
But I can't think of many players who improved their standings with performances in this
tournament.
Holland have just beaten the reigning world champions Italy 3-0 in their opening fixture of Euro 2008. Expect to read a lot about it in the paper tomorrow.
There is a book about Dutch football by David Winner called 'Brilliant Orange' and I think that is the right adjective to describe tonight's game.
" Barcelona have made it clear that their priority this summer is signing a striker with
physical presence, after sanctioning the departure of Samuel Eto'o."
I never thought about Adebayor as a physical presence. Yes, he is tall and he does play with his
back to goal but an adjective such as physical is an inaccurate descriptor.
Schalke's 3-3 draw with hated local rivals Borussia Dortmund this weekend was a Shakespearean
affair in just about all the senses of that adjective.
There was certainly history. The Blues may hold the slight all-time head-to-head advantage over
Borussia, but as any Dortmund fan will tell you, the men in yellow have won a league title in the
past half-century, whereas Schalke haven't.
