A brace from Jacob Burns helped Perth Glory to battle back from two goals down at Adelaide

Adelaide United, Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Heart were the big winners on the weekend.
A classic John Aloisi miss, was matched by a classic Aloisi goal in the Heart Phoenix match.
Good football for the watching TV viewers inspired by the very tall Gerard Sibon, Rugter Worm and
Josip Skoko.
Despite the gloom around some A-League clubs and crowds at the start of this season it is, unlike
other codes, the International element of the game that will ultimately save Aussie football and
the Aussie A-League.
The International nature of the game will allow Aussie football, with some smarts, to rebuild and
re-invent itself time and time again.
Why should Fury fans be done over by other clubs that can't find players in their own
backyards?
Use the US MLS system and have all players contracted centrally - one in all in.
And no trading of players unless both clubs and FFA agree.
Cernak process makes it look like FFA is writing off Fury.
And so it looks as if the final chapter is about to be written in the farcical Sydney Rovers
saga.
The very first thing that the FFA should do is go hat in hand to the representatives of the
Canberra bid, with a genuine assurance that future expansion bids will be assessed on their merits.
Some time ago, when Michael Zullo and Robbie Kruse were the hottest young prospects in the
A-League, I suggested that Kruse probably had the more potential of the two of them. Although Zullo
has already made the jump to Europe, and although Kruse endured a long spell on the outer thanks to
some off-field problems, my opinion hasn't substantially changed.
Friday football on Fox in Adelaide. You can't beat it.
And the game between United and Gold Coast didn't let us down. The quality of the football put the
NSL lovers to bed once and for all - even anti-football naysayers would have been impressed withe
visual splendour on and off the field.
Morning all, welcome to the blog.
FP can't really concentrate when his brethren are in Sydney trying very hard to lose a game of
cricket. It's enough to send a person to the place with the padded walls and nifty white
jackets.
Meanwhile, there isn't much going on in the land of the purple, with the Socceroos match against
Kuwait tonight.
The Australian A-League has several matches on Saturday, January 9, 2010 including Gold Coast
United v Adelaide United. The match will be covered live on our other site, Free Live Sports TV, at
the link below.
Free Live Sports TV Gold Coast United v Adelaide United Australian A-League Saturday,
January 9, 2010 10:00 GMT
Wellington 3 v Brisbane 1 - like Wellington had one or two players extra - much better at defending
than Brisbane was at attacking.
CCM 1 V North Queensland 1 - it was very hot in Gosford and this suited the far north.
Gold Coast 1 v Adelaide 1 - pity Gold Coast didn't play like this against the Roar.
Not an inspiring game. In fact a hard slog to watch. CCM got a soft penalty should only really be
given to home teams. Good goal from Adelaide.
Despite the closeness of the table a clear gulf in the A-League this year - with little prospect of
repair. Adelaide expected to have a new owner by the new season - maybe even by the time of their
ACL games.
Adelaide and Central Coast played out a draw in this A-League encounter.

Wellington Phoenix return to winning ways with a 1-0 over Adelaide United. The New Zealand based
club now has 34 points from 25 A-League matches. Jon McKain with the first-half match winner.
In United Arab Emirates Premier League action, Al Ain, third in the table, dispatched Al Nasr by
two goals.
In The Australian and the Courier Mail.
Good to see Townsville rallying behind Fury because they did really well I think.
Fury lost $4m to $6m and got $1.5m from FFA. Adelaide got $1.5m, Roar got $1.5m. Gold Coast got FFA
support for home games. But Central Coast got FFA dollars? Didn't they just announce a massive
redevelopment program?
Gee not too happy about the way the Korean Steelers play. Some might call it cheating diving around
all over the place. Our own diver Flores looked superb as did Van Dijk in a red shirt. With this
team Adelaide would have given the A-League a shake.

Melbourne play again tomorrow night, Tuesday, in the Asian Champions League and they must win.
Simple as that.
On a high from the win against Sydney but few Aussie clubs, even clubs across the World have to
play Sunday then Tuesday. Seongnam winners on matchday one are the visitors to Melbourne.

Salary Cap approaches $5 million for cashed up clubs! (Can't find one under my bed)
More money for another Marquee announces the FFA. Fantastic but hasn't someone told them the Fury,
Gold Coast, Brisbane, Phoenix, Adelaide, Sydney and more are all in some sort of financial woe.
Make that basket cases!
Should Nicky really go, why Brett Holman divides the Nearpost, the A-League at the World Cup, yes
13 of the 31 have played in the A-League, we've got the news and views Socceroos and Adelaide
United's round of 16 epic clash.
Paddy and Eamonn are joined by Liam Cosgrove, a man who is off to South Africa, and has been to the
last THREE World Cups!
Perth Glory striker Robbie Fowler has launched legal action against his former club North
Queensland and Football Federation Australia (FFA) after his contract with the Fury was terminated
at the start of the year.
Fowler, the Fury's marquee signing for their first A-League season, and five other North
Queensland players were left without contracts after previous Fury chairman Don Matheson withdrew
his financial support for the club, leaving the side in FFA administration.
In front of Perth's biggest ever A-League crowd - they had turned up to see Fowler (that is way you
need a marquee) - Fury outplayed Perth.
Dave Mitchell lived up to his reputation as a nice guy but not much chop as a coach. Long balls
every time. Yet North Queensland, Chris Payne (yep from Sydney FC), Dave Williams and Chris
Grossman 90 + 2 (from left back) all got goals.
The Cliches will be watching God, Tricky Nicky for the Socceroos and the Two B's or Carlos and
Muscat and so will I but here's ten others I'll be watching with some interest this year...and
perhaps not your typical ten, in no particular order.
1. Michael Marrone, Heart, moved from Adelaide where he impressed throughout the season.
Adelaide United at home on a Friday night has become a tradition for football fans, and it's
usually a great game/occasion. Good crowd, Flores and Leckie to light the flame and the ageing
Heart desperate for a performance. Don't miss it.
Perth Glory v Newcastle Jets. Beauty and the Beast, and yes the Glory are the Beast.
Liam Reddy - drop to bench - hire Danny V former CCM
Seb Ryall - nearly there
Stephan Keller - make Captain best player on team
Hayden Foxe - too old too slow to play at the back (can he play striker?)
Stuart Musialik - keep
Nick Carle - hmmm maybe this is why he didn't get many games in England?
So many highlights from the A-League this weekend; here's a few for those without Fox and/or stuck
in the AFL/NRL/Masterchef seasons.
Marcos Flores, Adelaide United, his wonder goal was only outdone by Aussie Matthew Leckie's header
and Cassio's defensive mistakes in the same game. So much football down at Hindmarsh and the Jets
must be the best football team in the World to be second bottom of their league.
Today's Courier Mail:
'Since his arrival in Adelaide, Dutchman Rini Coolen has replaced Aurelio Vidmar as coach, with
van Dijk admitting he prefers Coolen's "easy-going" nature to Postecoglou's "police officer"
attitude.' ....
"Rini first lets us try to work things out.
With all the Football shows in Australia concentrating on the off-field antics this week it's nice
to see the football take centre stage again.
Two to watch:
Newcastle Jets v Perth; I'm adoring Robbie at the moment so nice to see how the Glory respond to
the Jets woes.
And Brisbane v Adelaide United: League leaders can they be tamed?
Interestingly Ben Buckley is saying that Newcastle needs to show it wants an A-League team, and yet
its crowd was relatively respectful at 6,977.
Draws to:
Melbourne Victory 0 v Wellington 0 (11,513 - how long ago since Victory played to only 11,000?)
North Queensland 0 v Melbourne 0 (4,922 - Fury dominated but couldn't score)
Brisbane 1 v Adelaide 1 (7,080)
Gold Coast 0 v Central Coast 0 (2,037 check this out FFA are promoting this as a record!
A-League at it's best. Tonight.
Great stadium, great home support. Pacy and tricky players. Australias' top goal scorer on
fire.
It's Adelaide United v Perth Glory. It's going to be rough and tough Jacob Burns will "get stuck
in" early and it will be football but not as we know it.
Adelaide United have Matthew Leckie. He's fast. And I bet he doesn't cost half as much as the
retirees down at Melbourne Heart!
Brisbane Roar have Matty McKay and Massimo Murdocho in the midfield they are fast, over and over
again and they can wear teams down.
Melbourne Victory won two Championships using the pace of Archie Thompson.
There might not be many there to watch them but Gold Coast United are nicely positioned to make a
mark on the A-League this season.
Although in 7th place with 10 points they could be second if they get a win over the Wellington
Phoenix and other results go their way.
A little more solid this season a lot will depend on Bruce Djite, he scored last week, and Joel
Porter getting a number of goals.
Sydney FC lost again to Adelaide United.
This time it was 2-1 and the winning goal came from, wouldn't you know it, former Sydney FC Youth
Captain Iain Ramsey......in the very last minute.
For the record that's three games decided with goals in the last minute this weekend! It doesn't
get much more exciting than that in any league, in any sport- unless you're from the Harbour City.
As a club it may be only little more than six years old, but Melbourne Victory is fast becoming
a key part of the historical make-up of Australia's premier football competition, the A-League. Not
only has this club been the most successful club both and off the pitch in the league's short
history, but it also has been involved in many of the league's key historical moments.

Adelaide United thumped Wellington Phoenix 3-0 but it was the quality of the football the movement
off the ball, the deft flicks that had me loving my Friday night football from Hindmarsh.
Wellington Phoenix were good, at times very good and in the first half had the balance of play and
better chances.
Tonight the Melbourne Victory take on Adelaide in Melbourne.
Expect an open game from the Victory and the rampaging Adelaide, who haven't beaten Melbourne in 9
games, to rip em apart on the break. Matthew Leckie is back, rejoice!
and tomorrow in Sydney the mighty Sydney FC one win this season take on Fozzies' mate Ange
Postecoglou free flowing football team - Brisbane Roar.
A good afternoon to you all. I'm sure your all in a buoyant mood today after the Victory's
brilliant win last night over Adelaide United. To clarify, United were undefeated this season going
into this game however they had lost to Melbourne in nine previous meetings. The Victory became the
first team to beat Adelaide this season and extended their winning streak against the ‘Inbreds'
to TEN consecutive games.
So Sydney was the dress rehearsal for Massimo's new role in ghosting forward and shooting. Early in
the second half Reinaldo set him up beautifully wafter a long run and an angled back ball from near
the goal. That time Murdocca's shot cannoned off the post. Second time Solorzano released him on an
unwatched / unmarked run.
