The Australians are still feeling their way round Asian football and how it operates; or often
doesn't. Take Adelaide United. There they were happily looking forward to playing in the Asian
Champions League when all of a sudden they are being told that they now have to play a play off
against Indonesian champions Persipura.
Fantastic the football on the weekend.
Tucked into two games. Victory and Adelaide and Brisbane v Sydney.
What treats.
Harry Kewell turned back the clock with a wonderful performance, again. If Archie or Danny could
have finished one or two of their Harry inspired chances Victory would have won.
Rini from Adelaide he's gone, Branko from Newcastle he's gone, Mehmet from Melbourne already
gone...
A-League winner Vitaslav is surely going...The Jets give Championship winningrecently appointed Van
Egmond a guarantee, Fergie is he really still there? and Miron draws 2,000 a week, crowd not
dollars, and now is set to wear a mic in the half-time dressing room.
The latest episode of Victorycast, victoryblog.net's Melbourne Victory podcast is now available for
download! After a big couple of weeks for the club we're back in 2012 to discuss the recent sacking
of Mehmet Durakovic and the appointment of Jim Magilton. We also review the Newcastle match and
look ahead to Friday's clash with Adelaide United.
Thanks to Melbourne Victory Football Club I have two double passes to give away for the next home
game vs Adelaide United, this Friday night (13th January) at AAMI Park. To enter, answer the
following question.... Jim Magilton began his football management career at: a) Ipswich Town b)
Liverpool c) Barcelona Email your answer, along with your full
Now I love a good yarn as much as the rest of them but is it me or has Fox Sports FC just reduced
itself to talk and more talk.......wake up!
You'd hardly know the show was about football from the visual hour.
Hardly a piece of football action in the show last night, especially in the first 45 mins.
The FFA and Adelaide United held their breadth at the Asian Casino last night...and won.
United have won direct entry into the Asian Champions League - meaning Australia now has three
teams in the group stages for the first time.
More exciting than watching Lou Sticca's fundraiser in Melbourne?
Looks like Australia will get a third spot in AFC Champions League in 2012. This will be based on
the team which came third in 2011.
And there in lies the beauty of the Aussie system.
Who knows who really came third?
Some say Gold Coast United - some say Adelaide United.
Wellington Phoenix changed their home stadium for Saturday's A-League game against Adelaide United
to Auckland's famed Eden Park but they were only able to play to a disappointing draw.
Check out the video and you'll know how to stop the Roar!
If you watched the recent Wellington Roar game you'll have seen Ivan Franjic played in time and
time again a la the above video training drill. Four men in the box, the ball played back or across
to a Roar player.
In the drill there were only defenders - against Wellington and Victory there were 7 or 8!
At first the crowd looked disappointing. But that seems to be the problem with people turning up at
game time to buy a ticket. By the time Eric had headed the ball into the back of the net there was
a good covering of people across the ground, and they were in full song.
The first 14 minutes were even, then after the goal the ball raced from end to end.
Good evening. Its been a week full of excitement as the first Melbourne Derby of the season draws
ever closer. I always look forward to the big games against Sydney and Adelaide but the derby is
quickly becoming just as passionate. The stakes are raised even higher this time as both teams have
started the
Melbourne Victory 2 Adelaide United 1 Semi Final, 2nd Leg February 4, 2007 Well, yesterday it was
the 2007 Grand Final. Today, its the game that got us there. With the first leg in Adelaide being a
nil-nil draw both teams still had it all to do at the Telstra Dome. With United having the
Sydney were value in the first half, pushing hard mainly via Emerton on the left. The ground was
wet and at times it seemed to be raining, leading to spectacles like 2 Roar foul throws in a row.
However, in the second half Brisbane kept the ball clear of Emerton, and Sydney ran out of steam.
The last 30 minutes of the game were not even close as Roar's possession pushed up to 80%.
I think it's safe to say that everyone who is a fan of the round ball game would have been relieved
the season has finally started.
They say that idle hands are the devil's playthings, so with six months of nothing you can imagine
the crap that has happened.
At least we can now focus on the football.
The Australia A-League kit launches continue ahead of the league's early October kickoff. The
latest comes with the unveiling of the Adelaide United FC Errea 2011/12 home and away kits.

If you have played at the top in front of the Kop when you return home you want to have some
passion, some feeling from a large crowd.
And what better team to sign for than the one with the biggest fanbase.
The Victory are already popular on the road - but the Derbies, Adelaide and Sydney games have just
gone up a notch.
We all saw the Brisbane Roar flying around the field last year, the Mariners were not far behind
and of course Melbourne and Adelaide always set a standard, often exciting.
Perth failed, failed to excite and this after being top of the boxing league after a few games.
Had a review - kept Iain Ferguson - and done the same.
I was sad when Mr Flores left for China, he has so much skill - and then Bernie said Harry wasn't
coming. Harry has a fair bit of skill too - although he may yet turn up.
I'm a Celtic fan and although Liam Miller (not so much skill) signed for former Rangers player
Fergusons' Perth Glory I wasn't that happy about the stars of the new A-League season - albeit a
long long way off.
Last March there was a report coming out of Australia that Adelaide United player Marcos Flores
could be heading to the Portland Timbers before the transfer window closes as the team's Designated
Player. This report ended up being false, at least according to its time table. Yesterday a fresh
report popped up on Adelaide Now (Adelaide's newspaper) that the Timbers might be interested in
him.
FFA have written to Canberra A-League Bid Leader (Friday last)stating if/when Canberra can raise
the $6 million start-up fund ($3.5 mill currently) and all other requirements being fulfilled the
FFA are very interested in a team from the Capital.
Hmmmm maybe so - but once bitten twice shy.

The post-season Play-Offs have got under way in Australia and for Minor Premiers Brisbane Roar
the Grand Final is just 90 minutes away after enjoying a first leg win over Central Coast Mariners.
In the straight knock-out phase, played between teams finishing from third to sixth in the regular
season standings, Adelaide United and Gold Coast United saw off the challenges of Wellington
Phoenix and Melbourne Victory respectively.
Violence in football on and off the field is not acceptable, and I love my Old Firms Derbies, just
not the violence that surrounds it - Of course in AFL, League or Union the more violence the better
but that's another story.
But I'm not interested in which set of fans are more violent, we know in Australia it will be
football, its flares and fans that will come under the most biased scrutiny from the media.
First Wellington Phoenix slumped out of the finals series as the Dylan McAllister led forward line
couldn't score in the proverbial brothel despite putting in a strong performance in Adelaide on
Friday.
Then they have to watch as their former young gun Kosta Barbarouses single-handedly delivers a
fantastic semi-final opener, only to supply the Grand Final home ground second goal against the
Mariners.
Love Adelaide United, love Travis Dodd, and love that goal last night.
Flowing football at its best, Brazil, to Argentinean, to Dutch slotted by an AUSSIE!
While all the focus has been on Paul Reid I'm more intrigued by the Iain Ramsay debacle.
Why has Ricky Dicky Coolen given us Mr Slory.
So you aren't allowed to have a Youth team - because of FFA paranoia, finances, rules, whatever -
and yet you play professional football against other clubs, ten of them, most who have a Youth team
and after six years of football - we're seeing heaps and heaps of young players filling in as your
stars get injured or are out of form.
Adelaide United striker Sergio Van Dyke has rejected talk he may move to the Liga Primer Indonesia.
He is applying for Indonesian citizenship and feels playing in the rebel league could jeopardise
his chances of representing Indonesia in the future.
Despite being backed by the deep pockets of one of Indonesia's richest and most influential
families Pelita Jaya have been a lame duck for many, many years. Back in the semi professional
years they were the big boys, winning trophies and signing players like Mario Kempes and Roger
Milla.
Recently though, and especially under previous coach Fandi Ahmad, they have concentrated on
spending as little as possible and nurturing youth.
When former Manchester United hero Dwight Yorke was first mentioned as a possible Sydney FC marquee
signing in the brand new A-League six years ago it was met with disbelief by a cynical
Australian...

Aussie football is dead, long live Aussie football.
Australia produced a performance at the Asia Cup, good enough, just to sneak into the Asia Cup Semi
Finals for the first time.
Sure it was close but Matt McKay, Sas Ognenovski, David Carney, Mile Jedinak and Nathan Burns were
a few of the A-League made players who are not comfortable in the Green and Gold.
Adelaide United 8-1 NQ Fury Hyundai-A-League- January 21, 2011- Hindmarsh Stadium Adelaide 8-1
North Queensland Fury ( Marcos Flores*3, Serg van Dijk*3, Travis Dodd, Iain Ramsay/P. Nikas) The
most heavy defeat in the history of the A-League was inflicted upon North Queensland Fury by
Adelaide United as the Reds thrashed Fury 8-1 at the Hindmarsh [.
This is the real 1 v 2 match. CCM are 4 points behind Adelaide. But they have 3 games in hand.
Expect a massive push by CCM on Roar, they protected key players against Wellington for this one.
