A recent blog on the AA website called 'Project Youth-fact or
fiction?' (great write Illybongani) got me thinking about the direction that Arsenal has been
heading in the last 6 trophyless years and also the grief that Arsène Wenger has had to endure.
Fans seem to be divided into 2 opinions.
Marvellous stuff. That certainly elbows its way into the handful of most emphatic performances
I've seen from our lot, a 90-minute game of keep-ball. Even when 11 against 11 we seemed to have a
one man advantage. Bravo chaps.
Our Central Midfield: Awesome
Scott Parker will presumably have bad days in a Tottenham shirt, but in a potentially tricky
encounter against Adam and Henderson he played like a man possessed (albeit, with shirt neatly
tucked in and side parting, the most benign-looking possessed chap you'll ever clap eyes upon.
Thank the deity that doesn't exist it's over. The Modric saga and Harry's inability to pass by a
camera without giving an interview meant the last few weeks have been excruciating. Let's get on
with it now and play some football. However, here's no denying the backdrop of genuine tension on
deadline day.
Proof above that Luka Modric is top quality. A great goal against Israel yesterday... The Tottenham
man has endured a turbulent summer especially the last few weeks as his tug of war between Chelsea
and Tottenham ended ... Continue reading →
As last season began to draw to a close, it seemed as though Roman Pavlyuchenko would be the
first player to leave White Hart Lane this summer. Despite leading the scoring amongst our three
regular strikers, Pav was very vocal in his desire to leave for a chance of more regular
football.
All that seemed to change following his two long range strikes against Birmingham City on the
last day of the campaign.
The dust may have settled, but it would be frightfully remiss to pootle along any further
without casting a beady eye over the various to-ings and fro-ings of the transfer window. Step this
way please...
Welcome to the Lane...
Scott Parker
Curiouser and curiouser, we now somehow find ourselves bottom of the table yet with both of last
season's Players of the Year in the ranks.
(An early preview, as I'm off on a fresh gallivant this weekend). An air of equanimity
has pervaded AANP Towers these last few weeks, even as Wellbeck, Dzeko et al were rippling
our net from all angles, for those openers were two games from which few if any points could be
expected.
Molyneux. Saturday September 10th 2011. 3pm Kick-off.
With the international break out of the way Spurs head to Wolves and the start of the season
couldn't be more contrasting for the two clubs. Wolves have started undefeated with two wins and a
draw, whilst Spurs have been comprehensively beaten by the two Manchester juggernauts.
The Man: stripped for action Video: see end of blog. So once more our season begins. The
statistical apologists will argue that the first two games don't count as we didn't win them last
year and we didn't win them this year either Nothing to see here move on. If we beat Wolves we will
in fact be better off than last year by two points, poised in their logical minds, no doubt, to
challenge
Forget those past two matches, the season has started now. Points on the board and promising signs
from all over the park. The first half however was scrappy and not alot happened in the way of goal
soring opportunities. The second half however, Modric, Parker and Adebayor all showed their quality
and supreme ability in possession, keeping the ball and not letting Wolves have even a sniff of a
chance.

Finally We're Off
After two painful early season results against the unstoppable forces of Manchester (good and
evil, I'll let you decide which is which), many a fan and journalist alike had billed our away
fixture to Wolves as both the real start and also, laughingly in my view, a make-or-break game to
signal our intentions for this Premier League season.

There was a certain inevitability about Adebayor scoring on his Spurs debut this weekend. Much
in the same way you could be assured that any millionaire simpleton appearing on MTV Cribs
will lead the film-crew into his monstrously decorated bedroom and declare: this is where the
magic happens, while pointing to his hovercraft-sized bed and winking like a sex pest, one
could almost guarantee the Togolese talisman would find his feet rather sharpish in the
Midlands.
Press Conference video at the end. 'Two points from eight: two point from eight' The nightmare

Manchester City get the chance to finally definitively emerge from the shadow of their
cross-town Red rivals as this year's UEFA Champions League commences. They'll do so with a team
which, while not having ever competed in the the Champions' League as a unit, possesses a
significant amount of top-flight continental experience.
He may not exactly be renowned for his tactical acumen, but like a broken clock hitting the
jackpot ‘Arry has stumbled upon something of a platitude in his assessment of that Adebayor chap,
noting a few weeks back that if he scores goals he'll eventually worm his way into our affections
– and if he doesn't he won't.
As we saw on Saturday, Harry's transfer dealings have made first team selection just that little
bit easier and after several departures from the Lane at the end of August, the temptation to slot
in Jenas or Crouch has now been removed.
Injuries also played their part in the final line up against Wolves with Sandro, VDV, Dawson and
Pienaar ruled out while the likes of Bassong, Corluka and Pavlyuchenko were left out for other
reasons.
Toumba Stadium, Thessaloniki, Greece. 6pm kick off. ESPN.
Spurs start their Europa League Group A campaign with a tricky visit to Greece where they take
on PAOK. While it would be easy to dismiss the opposition as not in Spurs class it would be foolish
to underestimate them.
Following the Manchester massacres, Spurs finally got their season up and running with an
excellent win away at Wolves.
After soaking up the pressure in the first half, we took the lead through the debutant Emanuel
Adebayor, before Jermain Defoe made sure of the points. It was refreshing to see two Spurs strikers
playing together and both getting on the score sheet, while in midfield Scott Parker impressed
alongside transfer victim Luka Modric.
‘Tis held in some quarters that as a whippersnapper the schoolboy ‘Arry would wile away his
hours yelping "Wolf!" with tedious regularity, but on Saturday even the cynics amongst us realised
that his "bare bones" mantra could be objectively verified. The adage has it that actions speak
louder than words, so when young Giovani was shoved out onto the pitch for a few minutes it became
evident that ‘Arry spoke sooth, and our lot really were struggling for personnel.

Liverpool face a tough game against Spurs on Sunday afternoon.
Harry Rednapp's side turned us over last season 2-0, ending our bid for Europe for the Season.
Its a crucial game for Liverpool having cruelly lost to Stoke last Saturday, we need at least a
draw at Spurs to stay with the top teams.

It's back to the first choice line up for Sunday's game with Liverpool and manager Harry
Redknapp has enjoyed better news on the injury front after a bad start to the week which saw
Michael Dawson ruled out for two months.
Harry could welcome back Aaron Lennon, William Gallas and Rafael van der Vaart for this
televised game while Steven Pienaar, Ledley King and Tom Huddlestone all face late fitness
tests.

Never mind the game today, have you seen Sandro's hair? Heavens above. The fellow has done the

Of secondary importance is the visit of that red mob. In what might as well be a 17-team
division competing for fourth spot, Liverpool, along with those relentless purveyors of comedy at
the Emirates, represent our principal rivals – which makes this quite the key clash in the grand
scheme of things.

Some historical badness today blown out of the water from the opening whistle, Liverpool barely
put up a fight en route to one of their worst performances of the past year. Just as bad, if not
worse, than performances under Roy Hodgson, they were lucky to only concede four.
Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Liverpool. Yes, that's four, nil.
Isn't it great that all the limelight is surrounding the Manchester clubs and Arsenal? We can get
on with our business of chalking up the wins. That's two wins on the bounce, but more importantly,
two clean sheets.
Modric is looking like he's rekindled his interest, whilst Adebayor is simply superb.

Skrtel sees Red... Liverpool fell to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham this afternoon and went
down to 9 men in the process. Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel both received their marching orders in
a poor game for the Reds. A sublime strike from Modric led the way for the home side and three more
goals were sent past a frustrated Pepe Reina before the 90 minutes were up.
Four to us, none to them. That's the long and short of it. A dazzling afternoon of football from
the chaps in Lilywhite yesterday; one in which numerical advantage might've provided the opposition
with reasonable excuse, had we not been utterly dominant in every minute before Charlie Adam's
second yellow and every minute after.
