Neal Thurman over at the American Soccer Daily (a reputable read; I enjoy it) have just published
an article explaining how Houston's phenomenal depth is one of the keys to its recent success. I
read three paragraphs into this article and before I knew it, I was back here, composing a
retributive post.
I feel goaded.
Thurman compares today's Houston to the DCU of old, that oft-heralded squad which has established
DC United as the gold standard of MLS prestige.
I'm late on this one so there are plenty of recaps out already. DCenters, BDR, QuarterVolley,
Fullback Files, and An American's View all have good stuff.
This game made me realize that we need depth up top more than we need it at back. Gros, McTavish,
and espeically Burch showed very well considering how long they've been playing those positions.
First of all, here's a link to what the Fullback wants for Christmas. That's required reading
for all DCU fans this offseason.
Secondly, with all the recent roster moves, and with the rule changes for 2008, I think it's time
that we reset and take a look at where we currently stand.
The rule changes seem to be pretty minor in relation to DCU, and probably most other teams in the
league.
