Transfer rumors in the air:
First off, John Cross from the Mirror, normally a pretty good journalist (so it's not as if this
surfaced on Sport, Metro, or tribalfootball or something) is reporting that when he returns from
his honeymoon, Sol Campbell will re-sign a one-year contract with Arsenal.
This may have been one of those weeks that saw a lot of movement. Maybe some post-World Cup fun
if you will now that teams are settling in and are getting ready for the summer transfer window to
officially open up this week. A few clubs are expecting some big additions while others will
quietly make a splash here and there.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will launch an ambitious move to bring Real Madrid's Dutch playmaker
Rafael Van der Vaart to Anfield this summer.
Well that sounds awfully wrong, doesn't it? But it's true, at least in one sense: Nigel's taking
over YouTube with his kung fu kick on Xabi Alonso's xiphoid process. It's garnering the same type
of treatment that Zizou earned when he thrust his shiny dome into Marco Materazzi's sternum.
The YouTuber variations are coming in slowly it's only been 3 days after all but it at least
seems everyone is in on the Street Fighter bit.

Marco Pappa was one of the few bright spots in 2010 for the Chicago Fire. (Getty Images)
Boy these last couple days have been busy for me here and these Expansion Draft lists are taking
longer than I expected to pump out. Anyways, I've wrapped up the Chicago Fire's list today. So far
I've gone through Chivas USA, D.
As we get to the final positional ranking of the this year's previews, we now know most of the
Generation adidas class. As usually happens with the strikers, those signings take us from a
average senior class to a good one overall. Every year MLS is plucking more of the top tier
forward talent out of the pool early.
The Colorado Rapids have sent midfielder Jacob Peterson to Toronto FC in exchange for allocation
money.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Peterson, drafted by Colorado with the ninth pick in the second round of the 2006 MLS draft,

That is the message from Roberto Mancini this morning from the comments in Gazzetto dello Sport
that have been widely picked up here in the UK:
"I need players," Mancini was quoted as saying in Gazzetta dello Sport. "Perhaps Real
Madrid will give me Gago, maybe Milan [will give me] Flamini.
One of the more notable additions to Major League Soccer this offseason was undoubtedly the
signing of teen-standout Luis Gil.
What should have been seen as a coup for MLS -- and Real Salt Lake which ultimately ended up
with his services --was instead viewed by many detractors as yet another example of the league's
insistence on rigging the rules however it sees fit.
The Chicago Fire will be fielding a new starting goalkeeper when the 2010 MLS season begins on
Saturday at Red Bull Arena.
According to multiple sources, veteran goalkeeper Jon Busch will either be traded or waived by

goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra will get the nod in goal for the Fire.
First kick is now less than 24 hours away for the KC Wizards who will take on DC United for the
sixth time in 15 seasons on opening day. The two sides will each have quite a bit of knowledge
about the other heading into this season. KC will be familiar with DC's new head coach, Curt
Onalfo, midfielder Kurt Morsink, and forward Adam Cristman.
SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo University head women's soccer coach Ged O'Connor has announced the

to an already deep, talented and experienced squad.
Strange as this might sound, sometimes getting to a final might seem like a curse. Once you get
there, the hype and expectations rise to such a level that nothing other than a win will do. And
when you're Liverpool, those expectations are heightened even further. When the expected victory
doesn't come, however, the backlash is often severe.

Atletico Madrid amid the constant distraction of rumours and admits the speculation is starting to
frustrate him.

not be buying wholesale this summer. He said last week that he will be buying two (maybe three)
players, and we all know Chamakh is one of them. He again said today that Arsenal will be stronger
next [.
I have been talking about our problems all season. There is a need for some additions to the
squad, the need for better defensive coaching and focused training, and about the improvements to
the medical, legal and other support staff.
In general my approach has been to identify a problem based on valid and tangible observations,
followed by a search for possible options and finally choosing one which seems like the most
balanced.

Having submitted a few burning business/operations questions to Revolution COO Brian Bilello
already, I figured I would continue to take up the Revolution's generous offer and ask some of Mike
Burns as well. (See the first discussion here.)
The good news is on the "soccer side" of things, I don't know of anyone who can question the
soccer specific focus or knowledge of the staff.
Arsene Wenger is today being quoted as stating that the new Premier League rule reducing squad
sizes to 25, as being "a disastrous decision for football and for the players". When the rule was
introduced, the rules stating that Premier League clubs had to have a "Squad List" of just 25, with
eight of these being "Home Grown", it was seen as a great thing for the England football team.
Landon Donovan is apparently off of his former Premier League side of Everton's current radar
and the cash-strapped club can not afford the valuable MLS star via the transfer at the moment.
Everton's manager David Moyes made it clear that he would love to acquire the midfielder and
even begged his front office for the chance to do so, but Moyes claims that his club has labeled
the former Bayern Munich man too expensive due to his steep MLS price of around $11 million:
Don't you think I've asked my chairman (Bill Kenwright ) to make it happen?
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is rumoured to be interested in making a move for Barcelona bench warmer

believe that's what Alan told the reporters, because there's nothing in his quotes today that say
those words.
Whilst managers are not usually too willing to confirm details of potential transfer targets,
Roberto Mancini has spoken candidly to the Italian media to rule out signing any of the trio of
Chiellini, Gattuso or Balotelli, who have all been strongly linked since he arrived at the
club:
"Chiellini is the key to Juve's defence so it seems a bit difficult they would let him
go.
As I was about to post about how I was disappointed there were no rumors about who United was
looking at, I get a text from my twitter account saying we had acquired Danny Allsopp! I should
hurry and get ready to post something similar so we sign more players! In all sincerity, he looks
like a finisher, although most Internet videos don't show players missing a lot of shots.
Earlier in the week, after we gave by far our most determined, outstanding and tactically
superior performance of the season, it got me a thinking. When WAS our last truly incredible
performance? Well, few would disagree with me when I suggest that it was in fact at the very same
venue that today's game was held last season.

Hey all, it has been a while since I have posted, but I have a few subjects I want to tackle in the
upcoming days regarding the blog. First is to address what we have learned about DC United. One has
to think that we are not the completed article yet. We have seen some departures and some
additions. But there have been several areas of concern.
Jamie Carragher feels Liverpool need two or three "top-class additions" if they are to avoid
another season battling for fourth.
Many had expected Liverpool to challenge for the title this season after finishing second last
year, but they got off to a poor start with a defeat at Tottenham and have yet to get back to their
best.
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has stated the Reds must forget about Xabi Alonso and stop
blaming the Spaniard's sale for their failure to push for the title this season.
After finishing runners-up to Manchester United during 2008-09 many expected Rafael Benitez's men
to challenge strongly for the title this time around.

This season's curtain is closing and fast. In a couple months it will be done and dusted, but
right now the feeling of still being able to win the double is just fascinating, unbelievable and
very exciting.
The end of the season usually brings a lot of boredom, no weekend games, no midweek distractions
from the hustles of every day life but all is not so bad this summer, the World Cup is coming to
Papa yap, my continent the big ‘A'.
