It was a brilliant performance by Inter as they beat Chelsea 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals of
the Champions League.
With Chelsea struggling to find the net in front of their home fans, Samuel Eto'o's pre-match
dreams came true when he popped up with the winning goal twelve minutes from time to complete a 3-1
aggregate victory.
All that double training Carlos Tevez says he hates so much; all the "shadow play" sessions with
Roberto Mancini taking his players out, minus a ball, and arranging them into shapes in readiness
for the next Premier League opposition – and yet still the most fundamental winning principle
about Manchester United has not permeated the club who aspire to ascend above them.
This wasn't how it was supposed to go. It was Youth Day in South Africa, the stadium in Pretoria
was loud with vuvuzelas and the Bafana Bafana players were singing (surprisingly melodiously for a
in the tunnel. The table was set for a South African victory, but Uruguay ate the hosts for dinner
instead.
A tearful Landon Donovan said his dramatic added time winner for the United States made him
"believe in good in the world" again after coming through a painful divorce and heavy criticism in
recent years.
Donovan's goal gave the USA a 1-0 victory over Algeria which sent them into the last 16 instead
of on the plane back home.

SIKKIM, Oct 23: Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) on Saturday registered a
thrilling 4-3 tiebreaker victory over Camellia United Sikkim Sporting Club to make it through to
quarterfinals in the 32nd All India Governor´s Gold Cup Football Tournament at Gangtok,
Sikkim.
The first leg matches in the quarter-finals of the Copa Sudamericana have been completed with no
team enjoying a lead over their opponents. That's because all of the quarter-final ties so far have
been drawn and it shows that the competition is being taken seriously by those clubs who are
remaining.

Goals:

Two typical Stoke goals, but one on each end. For 90 minutes, you could have switched the teams'
kits and would have fooled me. And for 90 minutes, it worked.
Barcelona 1 - 1 Villarreal
(1-0) 7' Pedro, (1-1) 50' Fuster
Whoever wrote the Camp Nou script for Barcelonas celebration of their six trophy
bonanza, a draw with Villarreal surely wasn't part of it. That man
Pedro got the hosts off to the perfect start after Thierry Henry
had slammed a first time shot onto the bar, and he chested down to fire emphatically past Diego
Lopez.
Leeds United did themselves proud again late this afternoon as they came back from 2-1 down to
equalize in the last minute of added time through a penalty. Jermaine Beckford two goals
against Tottenham And it was that man Jermaine Beckford, who looks more and more the part against
top-class opposition, who scored both Leeds goals.

So Tony Mowbray, rubbish or what? (That's the sort of incisive football
analysis you get at Pies.) And the answer is... half-hearted drum roll... yes, he is a bit rubbish,
and obviously out of his depth at a big club like Celtic.

1) Cesc Fabregas- Arsenal
Fabregas has impressed this season both scoring goals and setting them up. The Spanish
midfielder is having the best season of his young career and is the critical reason why Arsenal
have been so great during the first half of the year.
R. Standard de Liège 1-3 Hamburger SV (agg: 2-5)Two goals from Mladen Petrić – including a sensational overhead kick – helped Hamburg cruise
into the semi-finals.
A sublime overhead kick from Mladen Petrić helped Hamburger SV ease past R. Standard de Liège 3-1
and leave the German club one step away from the final in their own stadium.
Bernard Lacombe says that this is the match that will decide the championship for both clubs.
Marseille and Lyon are contending for the title, and given the tightly packed L1 table, and with
little less than two months until the end of the season, there is no room for mistakes.
March 21, 2010
Stade Velodrome, Marseille
4 PM ET (21:00 CET, 20:00 GMT)
Match Background:
Everyone remembers the last time these two teams met back in the fall, when French football
produced one of the greatest spectacles ever.
On the pitch, an official has the authority to add time to a match to make up for injury or
ensure that both clubs actually play 45 minutes in the half. In the Serie A standings, there is
no added time, and for the three clubs at the bottom the ticking clock is a doomsday one.
Relegation is never a fun process, but it will be particularly painful this year.

Forgettable game, memorable winner. Paul Scholes kept his head in added time at Eastlands to win
a vital three points for United. Scholes doesn't score many headers, but he knew exactly what he
was doing in directing the ball past the left hand of a desperate Shay Given.
Although there were many great performances this past week from Everton, Tottenham, Wigan, and
Aston Villa, it's the time of the season where it is now all about the title race. Chelsea was
dismantled by Spurs, so there was no Wednesday Wonder worthy performance there. Arsenal lost 3-2 to
Wigan after they conceded three goals in the final ten minutes after being up 2-0.
Barcelona 4 - 1 Tenerife(1-0) 17' Messi, (1-1) 39' Roman, (2-1) 63' Bojan, (3-1) 77' Pedro, (4-1) 93' Messi
A victory made in Barcelona.
Lionel Messi (2), Pedro and
Bojan
scored the goals that saw Barcelona open up a four point gap (again) with only two matches to play.

KATHMANDU, April 18: A lone goal from Pukar Ale helped G Five Machhindra Club
register a 1-0 win over Ranipokhari Corner Team on Sunday while NIBL Friends Club and Armed Police
Force (APF) shared points playing a goalless draw in the Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division
League Football Tournament at the Dasharath Stadium.
After 18 long years. Their last title in 1990-1991. They beat Rennes, 3-1 and with two matches
to spare won their ninth domestic title. It sparked mad celebrations with fans diving in the sea at
the Vieux Port. Key moments in their season:
Jan 30: Marseille slump to a 2-0 defeat at promoted Montpellier and drop 12
points off the pace.
A fascinating battle for the last and final CL spot unfolded yesterday as Real Mallorca took on
Espanyol. Sevilla met Almeria. A battle that will be remembered for a long, long time.
Mallorca did their part by beating Espanyol, 2-0 through goals scored by Victor Casadesus and Mario
Suarez.
The countdown is over. The World Cup is here.
The eyes of the world are upon Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, as host South Africa will
try to avoid being the first host nation to drop the opening game of the tournament when it takes
on Mexico in Group A action (10 a.m., ESPN).
Oscar Tabares pulled out Diego Forlan in the 38th minute of the second half much to everyone's
surprise.
Later, it was revealed that Forlan was not really 100% fit having a thigh pain that bothered him
right from the start. However, without Luis Suarez, Uruguay had no other option but to play
him.

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had many reasons not to be happy after yesterdays heartbreaking
Sunderland equaliser in the 95th minute, and not just because of the added time at the end. He was
asked if he had expected Rosicky to take the penalty, as both Robin Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas
were not on the [.
How do you know that things just aren't going your way in football?
Well, perhaps when you've been dominating most of the second half at 1-1, and then you suddenly
concede a totally unexpected winner in added time. Said winner is scored by a former player of the
club, and laid on by a clumsy makeshift striker whose main contribution to the game for the
preceding ten minutes has been providing welcome mirth for the fans.
It took an extra time winner from Stewart Downing to settle this one after Clarke Carlisle
cancelled out Emile Heskey's late opener, but it was a costly game for Marc Albrighton who will be
suspended for the Birmingham derby game after being sent off during extra time.
Not a game I saw or even heard, but clearly another game where we struggled to find the net.

Four of Asian football's heavyweight nations have qualified for the semi-finals of the Asian
Games football tournament, currently taking place in the Chinese city of Ghangzhou.
Uzbekistan, fresh from knocking defending champions Qatar out of the competition in a game
featuring "that miss" from Fahad Khalfan, were once again taken into extra-time.
Sevilla 1 - 2 Mallorca
It ended up being an unhappy reunion for Gregorio Manzano with his old club Mallorca, as the
islanders shocked the Sanchez Pizjuan with a late winner from Webo. The match was a tale of two
halves as Mallorca controlled the first 45 minutes, Marti and Joao Victor shielding the back four
admirably, while Chori Castro and Michael Pereira looked dangerous down the wings.
Dejection.
It's becoming more and more difficult to discuss these recent displays. Futile doesn't even
begin to describe it.
I think it is safe to say we've drifted away from suffering just a blip in form. Now, it would
seem, we've entered a good ol' fashioned rut.
The recovery has begun. Even if this one was as painful as it was therapeutic.
A vexing period for me right now.
On the one hand, I should be pleased. The famous CFC finally broke from its slumber, playing
with a style/ substance and a passion not seen since early October.
As an American fan of Manchester United, I am a fake. I was neither born near the city of
Manchester nor lived during the time of Busby's boys. The Munich disaster is a black and white

sing songs that pry on the lingering wounds of veteran followers, I plop in the ipod earbuds and
listen to Kanye.
