Fort Lewis came to Alamosa far from the dominating team of 2009, but the Skyhawks quickly showed
signs of their old ways.
The Skyhawks improved to 4-3-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with
a commanding 6-0 victory over the Grizzlies on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Grizzlies fell
to 0-6-0 on the season, 0-3-0 in the RMAC.
Adams State College women's soccer coach Tom Cliff has announced the addition of 18 newcomers to
his team's 2010 roster. The group includes 14 recent high school graduates from seven different
states and two junior college transfers, who join the Grizzlies this fall.
The list of newcomers also includes a mid-year transfer in Hannah Kimball and the addition of
Adams State softball player Brianna Boyd, who participated with the soccer team during spring
workouts.
The Adams State College women's soccer team trailed early, but goals from freshman Shelby Janz
and junior Jessica Hellweg allowed the Grizzlies to overcome the early deficit and claim their
first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory of the season 2-1 over Colorado Christian
University on Sunday.
Just 19 seconds away from recording their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference point, the
Adams State College men's soccer team saw Sam Westlake strike from 30 yards out as the Colorado
Christian University Cougars recorded its first RMAC win in eight years, Sunday afternoon in
Alamosa.
The 2-1 double-overtime victory improved the Cougars to 1-5 overall and to 1-1 in RMAC play.
The Adams State Grizzlies scored their second straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
victory on the strength of a goal from junior Jessica Hellweg at the 72-minute mark, the only score
in the 1-0 decision over New Mexico Highlands on Wednesday.
The win moves the Grizzlies to 3-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while dropping
Highlands to 3-3-1 and 1-1-1 in the RMAC.
Adams State never recovered from a penalty kick goal in the opening 20 minutes, and fell to Mesa
State 3-0 on Friday. Three players scored their first goals of the season as Mesa State got its
first conference win of 2010.
The Mavericks improved to 3-4-1 overall, 1-3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
