Every transfer window, there are at least a few moves that completely catch you by surprise, which is surprising in itself, considering that there are so many deals that are public news well before they're actually completed.

Manchester United had the look of Premier League champions today as they eased to a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough at the Riverside.

PFA player of the year Ryan Giggs scored his second league goal this year with a low drive and then Park Ji-Sung capped off some fine United movement for the second.

According to Graeme Bailey at Sky Sports, Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson is drawing interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United but Chelsea and Tottenham are leading the way.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate appears confident that deals will be reached that see both Mido and Tuncay Sanli follow Stewy Downing out of the Middlesbrough exit door. Neither player travelled with the squad to Scotland for Boro's 5-0 win over Dumbarton.

Among the performers who have lit up this burgeoning Championship campaign are some familiar names. Michael Chopra has so far justified every last dime of his weighty fee, Kevin Nolan has buckled down and rehabilitated his reputation as an all purpose midfielder-cum-forward, and Adam Johnson's sleek skills on the Middlesbrough wing have helped Smogheads forget the injured Stewart Downing.

Right then, the good news is that Harry has spoken openly about us being light in the midfield department.
"I am happy with the squad. The only area we are short of a body is central midfield", said Harry, in preparation for the January sales.
Thank the lord! The only hurdle that I can see us falling on is that teams rarely give away their best players in winter transfer window.

Chelsea will attempt to sign Adam Johnson from Middlesbrough next summer if they succeed in their appeal against Fifa's transfer ban.

Now that the championship season is well underway I thought it would be fitting to give you a list of the ten top players who have set alight the championship this season. The quality of the championship is phenomenal these days and has become a training ground for top up and comers, as well as one of the most entertaining leagues in the world.

Gareth Southgate has been relieved of his duties as manager of Middlesbrough Football Club with immediate effect. The decision was announced in the early hours of this morning and came hot on the heels of yesterday's 2-0 victory over Derby County at the Riverside.

The win over Derby ended a run of three straight home defeats in the Championship, and it is this along with falling home attendences - less than 17,500 for the Derby game - that is being rumoured as the contributing factors to Southgate's dismissal.

Reports in this morning's papers – most notably on the back page of the Times – suggest that Chelsea are pushing the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to suspend FIFA's transfer ban while its appeal is being considered, freeing the club up to make purchases in January.
The Times' report suggests that Chelsea are already drawing up a list of targets which includes David Villa, Daniele De Rossi, Middlesbrough's Adam Johnson and, most worryingly, Emile Heskey.

A little over two weeks ago, the transfer window slammed shut, leaving many Boro fans disillusioned. We had not brought in any big names. We had not brought in the fabled target man we so desired. We had not brought in.... anyone. Hopes of keeping Tuncay and Robert Huth, and seeing them outclass the Championship until January, vanished in an instant.

Chelsea are preparing to launch an unexpected January spending spree after submitting an appeal against Fifa's transfer ban.

Gothenburg- An intriguing clash of styles in Gothenburg tonight between England, 2-1 conquerors of Finland, and Spain, who need to get points on the board after tying Germany 0-0 in their first game.
The Germans lead the group by a point after downing the Finns 2-0 earlier today, but England can overtake them with a win tonight.

It's a bit like this for Fulham fans isn't it? In the past there were leaks here and there, and if the press got hold of a story there was reason to think they might know something.

A couple tidbits for the Holiday weekend:
It looked as if Middlesbrough - near the beginning of the transfer window - was going to hold on to its most prized assets as they prepared for life once again in the Championship. The last two weeks have been an eye-opener, however, with Sanli Tuncay and Robert Huth heading back to the EPL with Stoke City, Stewart Downing finally getting his move away from the club to Aston Villa, and Afonso Alves, ultimately a huge bust after a high-profile move from Heerenveen, to Qatar for a payday with Al-Sadd.

Back to back 3-1 victories have left Boro flying high in the Championship and confidence must be sky high ahead of the vital clash with West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

John Terry has stoked the fires surrounding the current rumour mill that surrounds Chelsea since the CAS suspended the UEFA Ban that had been imposed on us.
