Tomorrow the Wizards begin working towards the 2009 MLS season, as preseason begins. Tomorrow,
preseason begins out at the Swope Park training complex on field 3. The rest of this week and part
of next week will be spent either at Swope or at the KC Sports Lodge. After that, it's off to
Florida to train in Bradenton from the 29th through Feb.
It's early in the season, but already Kansas City is suffering through some major injury issues on
their team. Before the season even really got started, the Wizards were already missing 3 players
that were expected to be on the opening day 18 man roster. Eric Kronberg, Chance Myers, and Adam
Cristman all missed the start of the season due to surgery of some kind.
Made it out to practice today and along with the interview with Kevin Hartman, I thought I'd throw
out a few observations from practice today. First, the Wizards 3 long term injuries, Eric Kronberg,
Chance Myers, and Adam Cristman all continue to recover and get closer to actually being back.
Kronberg today was actually able to do some light diving during some keeper drills today.
So, yeah, the season has already started. Maybe I#8217;m being a little half-as free with the word
#8220;preview.#8221; But since the Wizards have not yet played a game, I#8217;m still technically
correct in my labeling. (Get back to me on Monday, when I will still be posting these.) This
preview is [.
div style="text-align: justify;"As many of you saw a
href="http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/1081318.html"yesterday in the KC Star/a,
Adam Cristman will be out for some time with a fractured toe (the same toe that Chance fractured).
His recovery time is expected to be 12 weeks. We'll give you more information on Adam's
health/recovery as we get it.
After today's training session, some clowns from the Ringling Bros, Barnum & Bailey circus that is
in town through Sunday this weekend stopped by to taking on some of our players at Swope. Our guys
included in the game: Matt Besler, Adam Cristman, Eric Kronberg, Kevin Souter and Graham Zusi. The
Wizards ended up winning the game, but those clowns could play a bit.
The Wizards are back in Kansas City after finishing their training in Florida at Bradenton. Before
they left, they had one more scrimmage against a team from the IMG Academy. The Wizards won the
game 7-1. Graham Zusi got another preseason goal off an assist from Jimmy Conrad (whose birthday is
today, Happy Birthday Jimmy) to open the scoring in the 25th.
The winner of this past week's player interview poll was the Wizards' right back, Lance Watson. Out
at practice yesterday, Thad from The Back Post and I were able to speak with Watson for a few
minutes. Watson talks about being in the starting lineup now and his contribution to the team. He
talks about winning the ball back after he loses it, relating it to his former play as a
midfielder.
Souter celebrates winning the beep test by trying to stay warm.
Adam Cristman does some individual ballwork today.
Training started this morning, with midfielder Kevin Souter and defender Matt Marquess winning
their heats of the infamous "beep test" fitness test. Michael Kraus came in second during
the first heat, while Kurt Morsink was second in the second heat.
After having schedules not line up with other MLS clubs in town, we played a scrimmage yesterday
against a team from the IMG Academy in Bradenton. We won 7-1 on three goals in the first half and
four in the second.
Lineup: Hartman (Pardo 46); Leathers, Conrad (McKenzie 65), Hohlbein (Besler 46), Marquess (Kraus
65); Zusi, Jewsbury (Morsink 60), Arnaud (Pizarro 65) Souter (Watson 46); Wolff (Cristman 46),
Lopez (Thompson 65).
So it sounds like Cristman is injured again. The story is that he hurt his foot in practice and
could be out for up to a couple months. After seeing him today, I am not sure if it is his foot. I
think they are hiding something. While he did look like he might be walking slowly, I think the
real reason he was not practicing was that there is an animal attached to his head.
Fasten your seatbelt and ensure that your seat is in an upright position - it's the fastest game
preview EVER! A mere 10 hours from now, the Reds will take on the Kansas City Wizards at beautiful
BMO Field. In the wake of John Carver's sudden resignation, Chris Cummins and Nick Dasovic will
take the reigns on an interim basis.
Part 1Some of the questions we asked him:How is the foot doing? Ahead/behind of schedule? Your
impression of the Wizards team now that you have been here awhile. We talked BBQ for a minute. Mike
asks Adam about keeping in touch with his New England team mates. I asked his perspective on the
little disagreement between the Wizards and the Revolution last year.
Though it's a little blurry, here is a picture of Michael Kraus scoring the game-winning goal
against his former club.
Our Swope Park Rangers topped the Creighton University Bluejays 4-2 this morning on the strength of
goals from Adam Cristman (2), former Creighton standout Michael Kraus and Aaron Hohlbein.

Some of you may have heard that a little demolition started at Bannister Mall yesterday. What a
sight for sore eyes! Here's a link to the press release issued yesterday by us and Lane 4, the
project's developer, and a link to the photo gallery up at kcwizards.

New Wizards forward, Adam Cristman, acquired at the beginning of the offseason from New England,
will miss the start of the 2009 season with Kansas City. Cristman suffered an injury in his left
foot that will keep him out for a little while. From reading the quote from Coach Onalfo it looks
like Cristman is set to miss a few months with the injury, which is a big blow for the Wizards, who
now are down one forward.

The Wizards stay at home and play New England this week, in their last league game until the 4th of
July, with SuperLiga and Open Cup games coming up. This game with New England will be the Wizards
first of 3 meetings in the span of a month against the Revolution. Two of those meetings will be in
league play, while the 3rd will be in SuperLiga.
I want to apologize for not writing anything on the Sunday loss to Houston or on the Tuesday
loss to Seattle until now but I'm battling a nasty "non swine flu" flu virus that knocked me out
off work Tuesday afternoon and all of Wednesday.
Well, Sunday KC outshot Houston 15 to 9 but only had 3 of those shots on goal while Houston
actually got one goal out of its 5 shots on goal.
It's been a rough week around here with technical difficulties, but now we're back up and running
at full steam. Hopefully you won't have any more problems getting hold of us. How about some link
city? But not City Link as the picture above might suggest:
-Watch Thad's video interview with Adam Cristman, who scored a goal today at training.
The David Beckham circus has continued since his return to the Galaxy this season. His recent fine
for his altercation between Beckham and an LA fan is proof of that. LA comes into KC on an
impressive win streak, as they have won 4 straight MLS games. Only one of those wins have been with
Beckham with the team.
Ridge Mahoney of Soccer America previews the MLS matchup between the Kansas City Wizards and the
Chicago Fire, which will be the debut of technical director Peter Vermes as the interm head
coach.

Interim head coach Peter Vermes takes charge of a game for the first time since the sacking of
Curt Onalfo.
Since scoring 3 goals in the first half against New England back on June 13th, the Wizards have
scored 1 goal in the next 13 halves of soccer.
Herculez Gomez is the only player to play in all 25 games the Wizards have played in all
competitions this season.
Gomez and Kevin Hartman are the only 2 players to have appeared in all 20 league games this season.
The Swope Park Rangers started the fall portion of their "season" with a 4-2 win over the
University of Creighton today out at the Swope Park training facility. You can follow the twitter
updates of the game over at the Wizards twitter page. Here's the lineup that started the game.

Leathers - Hohlbein - McKenzie - Marquess
Morsink
Myers - Zusi - Espinoza
Cristman - Thompson
From what I was told by people at the game, the Rangers had a few early chances, beating the
keeper, but unable to beat the post.

Yesterday, nine Wizards players and members of the Wizards Wives Club headed to Northeast

I'm tired. So tired. I'm tired losing. So tired.
Ok, so it doesn't work out as well as Weezer's "Tired of Sex", but the sentiment is the same, I'm
plain tired of losing at this point. It's been over 2 months since the team won a game. It's been
over a month since the team scored a goal, and that continued last night back at CAB as Real Salt
Lake came in and got only their second road win of the season, beating KC 1-0.
Before the last game, a few players and front office people came out to the tailgates to socialize
and drop off some "refreshments". Adam Cristman is injuried so he was out there...Kevin Souter,
currently on the DL and doing a great job as a fill in broadcaster stopped by also. Here is posing
with Mike of Down the Byline fame.
div style="text-align: justify;"Two days from kickoff in MLS match 3 (Sunday at 2 p.m. CT at CAB),
we've got the latest injury report. Once again we'll be without some players above and beyond the
three who opened the season on the Disabled List. If you're interested in the game guide, check out

As you might expect, there will not be an edition of The Jimmy Conrad Show tomorrow night due to
our match against D.C. United. We will still be on Sports Radio 810 WHB, however. Dave Borchardt
and injured striker Adam Cristman will again have the call from 7:30-9:30 p.m. If you're unable to
be at tomorrow night's match and will be in the car, tune to 810 AM and listen to Davey B on the
call.

Today the Wizards announced that forward Adam Cristman has been removed from the team's disabled
list and is available to play this weekend against the Galaxy. Cristman has missed time since
breaking his fifth metatarsal in the Wizards preseason. He's been practicing for the past few weeks
getting more and more time in contact games.
Some good quotes in there from everyone. The consensus is that the crowd was unbelievable, Lopez's
shot was unbelievable and Hartman had a hell of a game.
KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO
On Kevin Hartman's performance
"I thought he was outstanding. He did what he's done most of the year, which is make saves when
he's called upon.
Tonight, Fox and Hound in Overland Park is the place to go for the Jimmy Conrad Show from 7-8 p.m.
CT then an MLS All-Star Game (Davy Arnaud) watch party at 8:30 p.m. CT., both events are sponsored
by Budweiser. Jimmy is done with National Team duty, but he's now in Salt Lake City for some
Players' Union duties as our team rep.
Hello from Dallas, just arrived with the rest of the traveling Cauldron for tomorrow's Wizards game
against FC Dallas, and the big news of the day is the fact that Dallas forward, Kenny Cooper will
not be playing. Cooper completed a transfer today to German club, 1860 Munich, the former club of
Wizards forward, Josh Wolff.
That one sure stings. Not the way we wanted post #999 at Hillcrest Road to go. Hopefully post #1000
will be a little more cheery. Well, you guys saw the result. It was 6-0 to FC Dallas. Take a look
at the notables below, and feel free to use the comment section. That's what it's there for.
Highlight of the night is that Kevin Hartman made his 100th consecutive MLS start.
Lots of the guys will be in studio Thursday. Hopefully they'll have a USA win to talk about in
addition to our match Sunday versus Mexico star Cuauhtemoc Blanco and the Fire.
Tonight--7:00 pm--The Jimmy Conrad Show--Sports Radio 810 AM
Thursday--7:50 am—Jimmy Conrad in-studio radio interview--Star 102.
