Ivan has sent a message to Foundation Message. I'm one so I got the email. But the update is in
full below.
Dear Foundation Member
Wow! What an amazing few weeks we have had in regards to the A-League4Canberra bid. Firstly I must
say thank you for signing up to become a Foundation Member, we are certainly on our way to
achieving the goal of bringing an A-League team to Canberra.
Shane Perris from Narrahbundah FC is the 950th fan to sign up. Great work Shane.
But I'm meeting Andrew Barr this arvo at 3pm. Would be great to have 1,000
signatures. Can you encourage fans to hit the keyboard if they are football fans, and haven't
signed up yet. Thanks.
Ivan Slavich's delivery, supported by excellent media, viral, tv, poster and web design campaign
from Ash Morgan and the team at Zoo receieved an overwhelming vote of support from Canberra
A-League inaugural Ambassadors.
Canberra's favourite football journo Merryn Sherwood from the Canberra Times has a story in the
paper and for more from me on the meeting read on.
The ACT Government has announced a multi-million dollar deal for the Canberra A-League side this
morning.
$2.5 million. We need $6 million and a strong supporter base to get in. With a number of investors
already on board we just need to prove to the FFA we have 5000 Foundation Members. www.
Jon Stanhope (Foundation Member) Zed Seselja (FM) Shane Rattenbury (FM) Alistair Coe (FM) Steve
Doszpot (FM and former President of Soccer Canberra) Brendan Smyth (FM) Andrew Barr (FM) all got
elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly. Football now has seven A-League Foundation Members in
Canberra and a few more over the border in Queanbeyan.
Some say Sport and Politics don't and shouldn't mix. Dream on!
Sport is a vital part of Australian life, community life, and with the coming ACT elections it's
interesting to see people standing for the local assembly with a keen interest in football.
The Labor parliament are currently spending $400,000 on Hawker lighting and pitch preparation.
Talking about a Canberra A-League Team last week Chief Minister John Stanhope said, "We would
be prepared to provide some funding towards that start-up but we would do that only on the basis of
a strong business case and evidence of very strong community support."
He talked of $5-$7million start-up costs, with probably $5 million per year in ongoing revenue.
How badly do Canberrans want an A-League team?
We could never have a team in Canberra, not even a bid. So everyone has always said or so it seems.
Well here's our chance.
And wake up Canberra. We've got a bid, and I believe we're flying financially. But money will not
be enough.
FourFourTwo said
Slavich was adamant that if all those who had expressed an interest were to put their
hands in their pockets then finance would no longer be an issue.
So sign-up and convince them. Full article below
EXCLUSIVE: Canberra's A-League bid team will use the W-League's capital side as leverage when they
meet the FFA next week.
Okay I'm only joking and that's the problem.
Queensland announced a 5 games in 5 years deal yesterday. Adelaide are complaining that their city
is missing out.(see below)
But what about Canberra with a heap of Asian Cup Qualifiers coming our way surely Canberra could
bid for a game every two or four years.
Victorian Government gives local football major boost
If the Victorian Government can increase their financial support for football in AFL mad Melbourne
lets hope the ACT Government continue to increase their financial support for football both at
Grassroots level and Elite level.
Canberra A-League bid update. Money, support and your help?
Last week the ACT Goverment put in $2.5 million and this week I'm expecting sponsor announcements.
At least THREE possibly Four Gold Sponsors already lined up so expect news later in the week. One
is rumoured to be for half a millon dollars!
Matildas, Carl Valeri, Boca Juniors to tour Australia, Olyroos World Cup draw for Beijing, Channel
9 want football, ACT Government spending.
It's all here...
Six Matildas are playing or will shortly head overseas to play for foreign clubs
as women's football continues to evolve.
Look who's coming to Woden Valley to celebrate 20 years, Local Politicians in action, ACTAS Girls
challenge for Matildas future.
Woden Valley have a massive celebration coming up Sunday 18 May. It's the launch
of their new Club house and Lawrie McKinna, Ahmad Elrich & Sasho Petrovski are coming to join in
the fun.
Former Majura Club/Canberra City member Bonita Mersiades has spoken in her role as the FFA's Head of Corporate Affairs.
(The FFA) it had approached Austrade because it believed football had the power and responsibility to "open foreign doors" to business and government.
Thankyou Bonita.

I received this email this morning, thought I'd reprint it in full:) As a football fan, blogger,
and Canberran I couldn't agree with it more.
Lets get political
For far too long Football (soccer) has been the poor cousin in Canberra. Football is the biggest
code in the ACT yet governments of all creeds have ignored us.
