News today that Steven Taylor has been included in the provisional Great Britain squad for the
London Olympics this summer. Steven Taylor in GB provisional squad Steven has been out since early
December with an Achilles injury, and it's hard to think he could be fit enough to play for Great
Britain in late July [.

The high-profile news continues to pour out of Red Bull Arena.
On the heels of Thursday's trade that sent Juan Agudelo to Chivas USA for Heath Pearce, Red
Bulls general manager Erik Soler told reporters Friday that Luke Rodgers may suit up for the New
York Red Bulls this season after all.
This'll mostly be an exercise in going through the motions as I mentioned earlier, I had a news
and notes post half-completed when the news of Kenny Dalglish's dismissal broke, so this is most of
that post with a few comments added on the current situation. We'll probably start the conversation
soon enough about what happens next at the top, but for now we can at least take a look at the
other goings-on from the week.

Newcastle were very unlucky to lose to Chelsea at St. Park earlier in the season. Alan Pardew we
wus robbed you tell them Alan 3-0 was an unfair scoreline, with two goals coming in injury time
when Steven Taylor picked up his Achilles injury, which has kept him out for the rest of the
season, and his absence has obviously cost Newcastle some points in the league this season.
The Colorado Rapids already-strong front line just got deeper and more talented.
Colorado bolstered its forward corps Thursday, signing 33-year-old Brazilian striker Luis
Eduardo "Edu" Schmidt to complement a group that includes Omar Cummings, Quincy Amarikwa, Andre
Akpan and Conor Casey, who is close to returning from a long-term Achilles injury.

Corinthians have announced that they have terminated and torn up Adriano's contract after giving
up on ever rescuing the wayward Brazilian from his ongoing career funk with imminent retirement
looking like a very real prospect for the former Inter Milan battering ram.
Following the shortest offseason, Major League Soccer swings into action on Saturday and the
Rapids face Columbus at home in Commerce City.
The March 10 first kick comes less than four months after the Los Angeles Galaxy claimed the MLS
Cup title. Now the league and the Rapids begin their 16th season of play less than two weeks from
the start of spring.
Philadelphia Union
The Union announced on Friday morning the signing of goalkeeper Chris Konopka.
From the Department of Is It March 12 Yet, handbags in Costa Rica between the Union and Belen
resulted in the abandonment of team's final scrimmage game with them down 2–0 in the first
half.
Adriano is both one of the most gifted strikers of his generation and one of the most
disappointing, ballooning to Ronaldo's late-career playing weight right smack in the middle of his
prime, among other, non-gravitational-field-related issues (drinking, partying, shooting people,
etc). Now at Corinthians and fresh off an Achilles injury and platter of Happy Meals, he's back in
trouble for being fat.
Corinthians have finally settled on what must be done to get melt away all the fat and the
craziness: lock him in a hotel and force feed him healthy foods.
It's been almost a full year since Adriano joined Corinthians after his three-year contract with
Roma was terminated seven months in.
Guardian: Newcastle deny £10m approach to Liverpool for striker Andy
Carroll
• Reports linked Alan Pardew with cut-price bid for Carroll • Newcastle sources deny making
contact with Liverpool Newcastle United have dismissed speculation that their former striker Andy
Carroll could make a cut-price return to Tyneside.
Sebastian Bassong is not playing at Tottenham much at all these days. Seb Bassong - no return for
Bassong So with Steven Taylor out for the season with his Achilles injury, we thought that a
loan move for Bassong through the end of the season would be a decent move for Newcastle
to make.

Wayne Rooney will be able to play in group stage of Euro 2012 after all.
Accompanied by England head coach Fabio Capello, Rooney had his three-game ban reduced to two
after a successful appeal to UEFA on Thursday. The decision to shorten Rooney's ban, which came as
a result of Rooney receiving a red card against Montenegro in a Euro qualifier last month, means he
will be eligible to play in England's final group match against Ukraine.
Yohan Cabaye has started his Newcastle career in great style and he has now played 16 times for
the Magpies and two great goals. Yohan Cabaye - done well at Newcastle The bubble seems to have
bust on Saturday, not because we lost 3-0 to Chelsea not because we have lost Steven Taylor
for the season with a serious Achilles injury ,and Steven's been one of our very best
players.
Let's just say front we feel really sorry for Steven Taylor, that he's now going to be out for
the season with his Achilles injury. Steven Taylor with referee Mike Dean Saturday Since Taylor
was injured in January of last year against WBA, he has played only 29 times for the side, and
assuming he's out until the summer e will [.
Both Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini were injured in yesterdays' 3-0 home defeat
against Chelsea. Liam Ridgewell -- experienced Premier League player And with Steven's Achilles
injury likely to be serious, Newcastle will definitely need to go into the market for a
center-back in January.
It doesn't seem like it's very good news on the injury front at all, following today's 3-0
defeat against Chelsea at St. James' Park. Steven Taylor - Achilles injury could be very serious
Newcastle defender Steven Taylor is set to undergo a scan on an Achilles injury he sustained near
the end of today's match, and there are now fears he [.
The Los Angeles Galaxy claimed their first MLS Cup of the David Beckham Era with a 1-0 win
over the Houston Dynamo Sunday night at the Home Depot Center.
While much was made of Sunday night's game in light of Beckham's contract which is set expire in
the offseason it was Landon Donovan who took center stage by burying a Robbie Keane ball in the
72nd minute to seize the proceedings and give the Galaxy their third MLS Championship in team
history.

David Beckham has always been known as a fierce competitor and for his ability to return from
the injury that cost him a chance at the World Cup, he was awarded with the 2011 MLS Comeback
Player of the year.
The 36-year-old midfielder has enjoyed an MVP-caliber season, battling back from a potentially
career-ending Achilles injury that cost Beckham a spot on England's 2010 World Cup spot and caused
him to miss six months of the 2010 MLS season.
Speculation may continue about possible transfer targets for Spurs this January but manager
Harry Redknapp has indicated today that it could be another quiet winter at the Lane.
Speaking on Talksport, Harry did highlight the defensive injury problems that Spurs have
suffered since the start of the season.
Team news and manager quotes ahead of Arsenal's Carling Cup fourth-round clash at home to
Bolton.
TEAM NEWS:
Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen could make his comeback from a two-month Achilles injury
layoff. With one eye on Saturday's derby at Chelsea, manager Arsene Wenger is likely to rest the
likes of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Robin van Persie, and give starts to the fringe
players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin, Park Chu-Young and Emmanuel Frimpong.
After being caught on video offering bribes to Caribbean officials, former CONCACAF president
and FIFA executive committee member Jack Warner is on the warpath.
Warner continues to respond to allegations against him the Trinidad and Tobago media, where a
lengthy letter was published on Tuesday.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that vice-captain Thomas Vermaelen has returned to
training and is set to make his return in a fortnight.
Vermaelen was last seen during the Gunners' 2-1 UEFA Champions League win over Udinese in August
but following an Achilles injury that required surgery, he has been watching from the sidelines as
the team's defense continues to struggle.
Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson will miss most of the Champions League group stage
matches after picking up an Achilles injury that could keep him sidelined for two months.
Dawson, who sat out Saturday's 2-0 win at Wolves, picked up the injury in training. Defenders
William Gallas and Vedran Corluka also missed the Premier League clash at Molineux due to injury
and with Lesley King's damaged knees restricting his playing time, Spurs look very short of bodies
in the heart of their defence.
Yesterday there was much talk of the injury gloom being lifted at Spurs after the return of
Ledley King at the weekend, along with the good progress made by Sandro and Rafael van der
Vaart.
Sadly, the jinx has struck again with news that Michael Dawson faces a two month lay off with an
Achilles injury which he picked up in training prior to the Wolves game.
By Alan Duffy
Tottenham's Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart is less than pleased by Harry Redknapp's
decision to leave him out of Spurs' Europa League squad, calling the whole situation "annoying" on
his personal website.
Van der Vaart was omitted from the squad after picking up an injury in the defeat to Manchester
City at the end of August.
Spurs defender Michael Dawson out for two months
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp faces a defensive crisis after Michael Dawson was ruled out for
two months with an Achilles injury.

A long-term work stoppage in Italy's Serie A has been avoided.
The players' union and league came to a temporary agreement that will last through June,
allowing the season to commence this weekend after a one-week delay.
The hope is that the two sides come to a more substantial agreement within the next nine months
to avoid a repeat scenario next summer.
The Mirror is reporting that Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen underwent surgery in Stockholm on
his left Achilles Momday and as a result could be out for two months.
Huge blow to the Gunners especially with the news yesterday that Jack Wilshere could be out for
up to three months also.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Milton Caraglio's first two MLS goals put the New England Revolution up 2-0 at
halftime, but the New York Red Bulls would have their say in the second half, finding the back of
the net twice to leave Foxborough with a 2-2 draw. The draw extends the Revs winless streak to six
games and New York's to seven.
Kenny Dalglish has revealed he is under no pressure to sell players – and that Liverpool's owners
are instead urging him to continue his summer spending.
Bankrolled by Fenway Sports Group, the Anfield outfit has spent more than £50million to strengthen
their squad during the transfer window.
In front of the biggest home attendance in more than 25 years, the new-look Liverpool, featuring
four debutants, began the Premier League season in stuttering fashion on Saturday when they were
held to a 1-1 home draw by Sunderland.
Shawcross after tackling Ramsey 14 months ago
Arsenal will play at Britannia Stadium tonight after a win last weekend against Manchester United.
The Gunners have now 4 straight wins against Stoke in the league and I hope tonight will be the
fifth time. Ramsey's leg broken by Ryan Shawcross 14 months ago, is still haunted in Arsenal fans'
mind and may not be forgotten that easily.
Verminator taming Shrek like no other
Finally there is some good news around Arsenal Football Club, Thomas Vermaelen will return to
action after more than seven months on the sidelines when he starts for the Reserves against
Manchester United on Thursday. The Belgian center back hasn't played since picking up an Achilles
injury while on international duty in September and subsequently having surgery to correct a tendon
problem.

It was just one game, but Thierry Henry's performance in New York's 3-0 rout of the San Jose
Earthquakes has Red Bulls fans wondering if their star forward is ready to start dominating as he
was expected to when he was signed last season.
Just days after revealing a nagging Achilles injury that seemed to jeopardize his effectiveness,
Henry trotted out to Red Bull Arena and promptly flashed his old form, looking mobile and
aggressive, attacking the net rather than deferring to teammates.
The New York Red Bulls will be looking for a measure of revenge tonight when they take on the
San Jose Earthquakes at Red Bull Arena.
The stadium is the site of San Jose's stunning upset victory against the Red Bulls in last
year's playoffs, a defeat that halted what many expected to be a New York run to the MLS Cup
Final.
