This blog is not going to pass judgement on Wayne Rooney following lurid allegations made by the
gutter press over the weekend. It is hoped the accusations are not true, for the sake of all
concerned. But if the claims are true, then there's no better manager in the game to turn to.
Ferguson is the master of man-management, he famously brought Cantona back from the brink on more
than one occasion
You may remember the UEFA Cup (yes, UEFA Cup) semifinal in which Zenit St. Petersburg, then a
relative unknown on the European landscape, beat the pride out of Bayern Munich 4-0. You may also
remember the (fairly ludicrous) allegations that Bayern punted the game at the 'request' of the
Russian mafia.
It's already not been the best of weeks for Liverpool. A defeat at Manchester United is never easy
to take, but now former manager Rafa Benitez has revealed some worrying information about the clubs
hierarchy.
Pressure on the decision makers at Anfield is already at fever pitch, and Benitez's accusations
will only add further strain to the relationship between the Liverpool board and the clubs
fans.
Iker Casillas' kissing buddy Sara Carbonero accidentally ignited a story earlier this week when
she mentioned that Cristiano Ronaldo was selfish. The fact that she mentioned this while defending
Ronaldo didn't prevent some accusatory headlines. Ms. Carbonero didn't choose her words very
wisely, especially for someone who should know a little something about how reporting works (take
the juiciest looking quote, and run with it).
Let me set my stall out straight away; I was convinced that Mark Schwarzer was
going to sign. I thought both sides had reached the point of no return, there was no way it could
not happen. Well, not for the first time I was wrong and a lot of fans were very angry, despite
knowing yesterday that the deal was in effect hanging by the tiniest of threads.
Yes you are reading that headline correctly, this is not a misprint or an figment of your
imagination.
Arsenal's Jack Wilshere has been labelled ‘juvenile and rude' (a badge most 18-year-old
footballers would wear with pride) after being kicked out of a nightclub for allegedly trying to
take pictures up girls' skirts on the night he was arrested on suspicion of GBH.
Frank Lampard will be fit for West Ham on Saturday as per
Carlo Ancelotti, reported
in the Daily Star this morning. Carlo is quoted in response to Lampard's news and the accusations
that he has put club before country by missing out on England on Friday night and Tuesday. He
said:
"For sure, Frank will be fit for the West Ham game.
Today, the estate of legendary thoroughbred Seabiscuit filed a lawsuit against Philadelphia
Union forward Sebastien Le Toux. The suit claims that Le Toux violated Pennsylvania right of
publicity laws which protect celebrities from having their likenesses exploited for commercial gain
without their permission.
Mick McCarthy has today insisted that his Wolves side our not dirty. The former Republic of Ireland
boss was left incensed at claims his side were deploying overly physical tactics so far this
season, and maintains his side are playing fair.
But after Wolves picked up a remarkable 13 yellow cars in their last two games, surely there
must be something going a miss at Molineux.
Moreno sending off Totti in 2002The Ecuadorian ex-referee Byron Moreno was caught today at the JFK
airport in New York, trying to enter the United States with at least 13 pounds (6 kilograms) of
heroin. Moreno has already had past accusations of drug use, but Moreno went on to referee
important matches in the 2002 World Cup, including when he ridiculously eliminated Italy with some
terrible decisions.
Having my Bebé
David Conn has the story of how Bebé, the hitherto unknown Vitoria Guimaeres striker, who
without playing one single competitive game was sold to Man Utd for £7.4m amidst accusations of
poaching by his former agent.
The short of it is that Bebé apparently dumped his former agent without a timely notice and a
proper reason before making off with the new agent responsible for bringing him to United.
