More bad behaviour by Egypt

Soccerblog 20 November @ 08:45 AM EST

The Egyptians summon the Algerian envoy twice, recall their envoy from Algiers. Sudan summons the Egyptian envoy in Khartoum. The Algerian embassy is currently under siege in Cairo with thousands of fans trying to storm their compound. It's all happening in rapid succession.

Now Egypt has upped the ante threatening to pull out of football for two years in protest of what happened to fans, sports officials, and players in Sudan.

A Newcastle United Blog | Howay the Toon 12 November @ 07:08 PM EST

When Sol Campbell signed for The Magpies, there were many who thought he just got his directions wrong when he ended up at Notts County. An ex England international with a distinguished career, playing for a League Two club, but for how long? The accusations levelled against Campbell were that he walked out during a training session.

Matchday 12: Captain Future

The Offside: Bundesliga 10 November @ 02:09 PM EST

The clubs at the top of the table keep crawling along. The clubs at the bottom keep sinking. Referees had a forgettable weekend and in between a player and a coach dropped bombshells.

Philipp Lahm. Bayern's disappointing draw at home against Schalke. Robben's moment of madness for which he should have seen a red card.

Chelsea to Consider Joining the Stadium Naming Rights Surrender

SoccerLens 06 November @ 04:53 AM EST

This week saw the news that Chelsea have joined Newcastle United in openly stating that they are considering selling the naming rights to one of England's  most established stadiums.

Opening myself to accusations of being overdramatic I believe that if today's announcement to tinker with the name of Stamford Bridge for commercial rights goes ahead it will be one of the biggest events in the clubs history.

United Cleared, Paul Pogba Will Join United

Blog United 07 October @ 06:58 PM EST

Manchester United have been given the all clear in their bid to sign 16 year old Paul Pogba from French club Le Havre.

Le Havre reported United to FIFA claiming that they had agreed a contract with the midfielder which was due to come into effect at the start of the 09/10 campaign.

Le Havre also dragged United's good name through the mud, slinging accusations of bribery our way, however, no report was made to FIFA over these allegations; presumably because the allegations were unfounded.

UEFA’s French conspiracy

Dirty Tackle 29 September @ 06:34 PM EST

At the weekend we discussed accusations of Serie A referees favoring bigger clubs and now we have similar accusations of French referees favoring French clubs in the Champions League. Well, not actual French clubs, because their success in the Champions League would be far too suspicious. No, they're accused of favoring the one good club that's more French than Gerard Depardieu in a beret Arsenal.

As the Calciopoli scandal fades from memory, Livorno are bluntly calling into question the advantage larger clubs seem to have in the wake of their 1-0 loss to Fiorentina on Saturday.

Said club president Aldo Spinelli:

"It is not possible that we have to be the sacrificial lamb in football.

Pro Vercelli: The Boneyard, Part I

The Run of Play - Soccer in Style 25 September @ 02:25 PM EST

This is a story about an honest, fair-minded, and well-meaning football club, and how they were pushed to the limit by a group of thugs, cheats, and bullies. It's an old story. It's a story that happens all over the world whenever a kid who's good at computers is forced to eat leaves by a kid who isn't good at computers; whenever a gleaming professional wrestling champion climbs into the center of the ring for a spontaneous awards ceremony only to be taken down by a folding chair from behind.

Mr Wenger’s One-man Fight Against Anti-Football

Andrea Russotto - What happened to you?

The Obsession with Youth: The Myth of ‘Zimmerframe’ Chelsea

SoccerLens 27 August @ 03:40 AM EST

It seems with football at the moment there is an unhealthy obsession with youth, quick exciting and potential filled youth. If the media articles and fan opinion circling the internet is to believed then only players under the age of 25 are capable of delivering a team success. Perhaps professional footballers should start looking nervously towards retirement or a diminished role within their team once they reach 26, maybe their only hope is to accept the Stannah Stairlift of professional football and take on the role of an impact substitute.
