The Johnstone Paint Trophy began its Round 2 in the Northern and Section section on Tuesday,
October 6, 2009. Most of the home teams advanced with a few exceptions. One match was postponed,
Accrington Stanley v Shrewsbury Town, because of rain and the officials ruling the pitch unfit to
play on.
Here's a list of the results from Tueday's matches.
A special edition of the New Additions feature here on Les Rosbifs. Thanks to the wonderful people
on the SI Games forums, most notably their Australian researcher 'Roger', a whole host of
Englishmen have been dredged up and not just in the A-League. A whole host of English footballers

Accrington Stanley - who are they? You know, it is not that long since being associated with
Accrington Stanley brought shame on Liverpool players of all ages (as the milk advert above shows).
But times have changed. Stanley are now in League Two and, when it comes to socialising, the
Premier League.
A father and son team from Southchurch in Southend are embarking on a journey to all 92 football
league grounds around the country.
Stuart Court, 25 and his Dad Steve, 51 started their journey at Roots Hall early on Sunday morning,
ticking off ten grounds by the end of the day.
1. FC Basel captain attacks his teammate -- Goalkeeper Franco Costanzo was fined for getting in a
shouting match with defender Beg Ferati at the end of a league match Sunday, then pulling his hair.
"I have made a big mistake which, of course, I cannot excuse,'' Costanzo said. "This will never
happen to me again.

Morecambe have taken former Liverpool youngster Craig Lindfield on trial, skysports.com
understands.
Lindfield is looking for a new club after having his contract at Liverpool cancelled by mutual
consent.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks with the Reds and helped them win the FA Youth Cup in 2006
and 2007.
At least we now know how seriously the footballing authorities in England take corruption in match
outcomes.
When over 90% of Premier League matches are affected by rogue operators - players, match officials,
agents, management, hyper-owners, the institutions and, of course, the omnipresent bookmaking
fraternity - we should hardly be comforted by the FA taking a stance against the betting
shenanigans in last year's match between Bury and Accrington Stanley in League 2.
The FA have charged five league footballers, for breaching betting rules.
The five players concerned are Jay Harris, David Mannix, Robert Williams and Peter Cavanagh, who
were at Accrington- and Bury player Andrew Mangan. The game concerned was last season's tie between
the mighty Accrington Stanley and Bury; a game which Bury won 2-0.
Whatever one might think about the current goings-on at Meadow Lane, it's difficult to not feel
come degree of sympathy for their supporters over the media reactions to their appointment of Sven
Goran Eriksson and Tord Grip. Heaven forfend that some elements of the British media would find the
time to go out and actually learn anything about Notts County Football Club, the oldest of all of
the Football League clubs and founder members of the oldest football league in the world - it was
far easier and more convenient to run a number of patronising articles that read as something like
print equivalent of the "Accrington Stanley?

Derby County manager Nigel Clough paused and momentarily collected his thoughts before commenting
on the arrival of former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson as director of football at nearby
Notts County.
"I hope Ian McParland is happy with it because after all he is the manager," Clough eventually told
me as we talked football in the comfortable surrounds of his office at his club's Moor Farm
training facility.

The tangled paths that various football clubs weave across each other don't come much stranger
than the ongoing saga of Accrington Stanley and Oxford United. When Accrington resigned their place
in the Football League in controversial circumstances in 1962, Oxford were elected in their place.
When Oxford surprisingly fell through the trap door and into the Blue Square Premier in 2006,
Accrington were promoted in their place.

Just a quick reminder: the Aztex are in England for the next week or so.

The 2009-10 English Football Association Cup or FA Cup is now in the third round. It's been
around for over a 100 years and allows any club in England a chance to win the cup. Recently, it
has been dominated by the Premiership but notable upsets have occurred with League One and Two
clubs. The third round draw has been released and contains some very interesting fixtures
including Manchester United v Leeds United, West Ham v Arsenal, Aston Villa v Blackburn Rovers,
Wigan Athletic v Hull City, and Reading v Liverpool.

Betting on football is great. You know the drill...wake up late on a Saturday morning, stroll down
for a cheeky fry-up then spend the next twenty minutes pouring over the Billy Hill Long List
picking your accumulator...it's bliss. Anyway, four Football League players have found themselves
in hot water this week after allegedly betting against their own team, Accrington Stanley, to lose
to Bury at the end of last season.
England midfielder Steven Gerrard was in the dock on Monday as jurors waited to be called to try
his affray case.
The Liverpool captain, 29, stood next to his six co-accused at Liverpool Crown Court in a dark grey
suit and black suede shoes.
The millionaire star took his place behind the glass sealed dock in courtroom 4:1 as Judge Henry
Globe QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, adjourned the hearing for legal discussions.
Soccerlens continues its full season preview of the English Football League, as we move up from
the Conference to League Two, which promises to be tighter than than Cheryl Cole's pert bottom in a
pair of skimpy hotpants.
Can Bury better themselves and go one goal better for promotion?

Tranmere Rovers have signed Liverpool goalkeeper David Martin on a one-month loan deal.
The 23-year-old former England Under-20 international spent a successful loan period with League
One Champions Leicester City last season.
"Saturday's game is very important and, with Luke Daniels being suspended, we needed an experienced
goalkeeper," said Rovers caretaker manager Les Parry.

The Aztex have returned from their tour of England, victorious in all 3 of their exhibitions there.
They also trained at top-flight facilities, attended a couple of Premier League matches, and even
left a player behind for a trial in the big league.
- Game 1, Oct. 14 - Austin Aztex 1-0 Stoke City FC Academy
This game was a bit of disappointment to some fans, as we had assumed that Stoke would field their
first team, or at least some level of it, rather than the U18 academy squad.
