Young boys in the park with jumpers for goalposts, or battering a ball against a garage door, dream
of pulling on that jersey, of scoring the winner at Wembley, of lifting the World Cup. Of making a
name for themselves. And yet some players make a name for themselves inadvertently, their
footballing achievements and exploits overlooked or forgotten.
For this week's profile, we are made up to welcome David Wilkinson of the stunning Leeds United
Blog, The Scratching Shed (indeed, 'blog' seems such a humble word to describe such a multifaceted
treasure trove). Having spent this week pondering the controversy surrounding the Yorkshire club's
3-2 win over Peterborough at the weekend, David turns his attention to a man who returned from
exile this
Stevenage 0-1 Arsenal | Aneke 51
Pre-Season Friendly | Broadhall Way
A Chuks Aneke goal was enough to give a young Arsenal side victory in what was a tight affair in
Hertfordshire. Arsenal may have used the game to give their youngsters a run out against an
experienced League side, but for Boro, the game acted as another step towards getting to tip-top
condition ahead of the Exeter game, just two weeks away on August 6th.
Graham Westley has further strengthened his side with the capture of Accrington defender Phil
Edwards. The former Wigan trainee has rejected a new deal at the Crown Ground to move South and try
his hand at League 1 football, just weeks after he was apart of the Stanley side knocked out of the
play-offs by Boro.
It will come as no surprise that the words ‘simply' and ‘astonishing' were used by several
different contributors independently of one another in reference to Paul Lambert's stewardship at
Carrow Road. It's a kind of rags to riches story that's been done to death, of course. Indeed, in
trying to sum the past two years, which have seen Lambert pick Norwich up by the scruff and
build a mentally
There's a whole other article that could be be written on the dynamic between Stockport County
and Sale Sharks, but for the purposes of this award we'll focus on the pitch at Edgeley Park.
Plenty of football clubs share grounds with those amateur gents of the oval ball, Reading and
Wycombe to name but two, and at points those playing surfaces may suffer from the sheer amount of
game time
I'm not going to do a preview. There's no point. Everyone know's what the situation is, who's
fit, who's in form etc. According to Accrington's manager, the tie's already over, so what's the
point in previewing it.
Here's Coleman's quote to the local Lancashire paper which says it all really.
In 1888 twelve clubs from the Midlands and the North West of England took part in the first ever
Football League season. Preston North End, Aston Villa, Wolves, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers,
West Brom, Accrington, Everton, Burnley, Derby County, Notts County and Stoke City will forever be
remembered as founding members of the Football League.

Recent conference alumni getting an early chance in the play offs has been a strong theme of recent
years and Stevenage FC certainly don't seem to have tarried in their first season in the football
league. But when we last featured the Hertfordshire club in advance of what proved to be a
momentous win over Newcastle in the FA Cup in January, they were in far from rude health.
League 2 Playoffs: The prize of beating Accrington is the final at Old Trafford
Stevenage welcome Accrington Stanley to Broadhall Way tomorrow evening in the first leg
of the League 2 playoff semi final. I use the term welcome loosely. There's nothing I want more
than for us to smash Accrington into oblivion and force them into another season in League 2.
Holroyd: Is on the lookout for a new club
It's been a busy week for the 60 Football League clubs not involved in the end of season
playoffs. A lot of clubs have already released their "retained" lists and hundreds of players are
coming onto the market as their contracts with their respective clubs expire.
In the end, it didn't matter what happened at Broadhall Way yesterday afternoon because
Chesterfield secured the League 2 title by beating Gillingham, therefore confirming that the
minimum position we would achieve would be 7th. With Torquay also losing in South Yorkshire against
Rotherham, Boro's point was enough to earn them 6th position and a playoff tie with Accrington
Stanley with the hope of progressing onto Old Trafford and ultimately League 1.
The Championship promotion race looks set to run beyond this weekend and with that same league's
relegation places all but sewn up, it seems like an idea to return to League One. That's not to say
that Accrington Vs Barnet a further division down doesn't have its appeal, but the likes of
Swindon, Bristol Rovers, Notts County and Tranmere have all featured in this column over recent
weeks, and for
Financial instability continues to see David beat Goliath in Lower leagues is a post from: Just
Football
As has been well documented in recent years there are a whole host of league clubs who are
seemingly operating on borrowed time due to season upon season of poor financial
management.
Lawrie Wilson: Looked to have won the game for Boro

BBC Report | Westley Interview
This isn't going to be the most positive, pleasurable post I've ever written for this site in
the two and half years of its existence.
League 2 - Tuesday 25th January 2011This match was posponed from last year and its a pity it
wasn't posponed again. Lincoln had watched the Wycombe and Accrington matches on the coach. The
secret seems to be that if you keep attacking Cheltenham and score early then you can watch them
resort to route one and fail.
