UNC to Final Four - Sporting Academy in College

There will be one school in the NCAA division 1 Final Four this coming weekend with a Sporting KC academy player on it. The UNC Tar Heels ended the Cinderella run of Providence with a 1-0 overtime win to book their ticket to Houston where they'll play Standford. Academy graduate Zach Wright has been a starter for UNC throughout the season, he's third on the team in goals with five while second on the team in assists with seven.

First this week, current academy product, Nic Jaimes, who won the club's Bob Gansler Award, given to the top academy player, has committed his college future too. Jaimes, who represented the US with the futsal team on a trip to Argentina has committed to play college soccer at West Point.

The pipeline of D.C. Youth players training in Italy continues

Via the Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, D.C. United academy player Chris Durkin will be training in Italy with Serie A partner club Inter Milan in April. The training will be for an undetermined period of time, but would be the third consecutive year an Academy player trained with the Nerazzurri, with former homegrown player Michael Seaton going on a training stint in 2014, and several academy players repeating the training in 2015.

Peruvian journalist Victor Zafersonseems to indicate that D.C. United may have quietly brought in another player for training and/or trial purposes. If the name sounds familiar to a few of you, it is because Condor spent time in the Academy, playing next to Bill Hamid and Andy Najar for a time before deciding to sign internationally with Alianza Lima in the Peruvian First Division.

Seattle Sounders FC 2 have made their first new signings of the offseason, today announcing the additions of 15-year-old Ray Serrano and 18-year-old Ibrahim Usman.

Serrano is an attacking midfielder who has shined since joining the Sounders Academy in 2016.

In a bit of a surprise move, Seattle Sounders FC 2 have signed attacking midfielder/forward Azriel Gonzalez to a professional contract. Not to say that the player doesn't deserve it, but at just 16 years old he is the youngest player ever signed by the Sounders (all eras), edging out Jeff Stock (NASL) and Victor Mansaray (MLS) who were both 17.
