The U18s began their double defence of the FA Youth Cup with a resounding 5-0 shellacking of
Wycombe. The Wanderers were undefeated in thirteen contests coming in while racking up a ridiculous
+27 goal difference. Though they managed to hold our boys for the first half, an explosion of goals
in the second, led by a brace from Nathan Eccleston, crushed the young Chairboys' hopes and dreams
of the upset.
Paul Anderson didn't travel with the Swans this evening as the club headed to Atspeed Stadium to
take on Horsham in second round FA Cup action. His injury is now being described as 'dead leg',
which for some reason conjures images of Peter Jackson's Braindead. I'll let you work that one out.
Anyhow, Swansea's next match is a League One tie Tuesday at home against Northampton, hopefully
Anderson will make his return then and there'll be no zombie babies in the crowd.
The Academy travelled to Aston Villa on Saturday morning and like the first team a couple of
weeks ago, were beaten. The game ended 2-1 to Villa. Read all about it here.
The reserves were in action last night at their new home Griffin Park, home of Brentford FC and
in front of a fair sized crowd drew with Tottenham 1-1. Read all about it here.
Chelsea take on Mexico's Club America in the Disney Friendship Cup at the Stanford Stadium, San
Jose, California in the early hours of Sunday morning (2am UK time to be precise) or 6pm local
time.
But what do you know about Club America?
Club America or America or Club de Futbol America S.A. de C.V. are one of the top teams in
Mexican club Football.
After both teams were eliminated from the Malaysia Champions Youth Cup, the season got underway
at Arsenal's training ground at Shenley in Hertfordshire on Saturday, but it wasn't good day for
the Blues Academy.
Despite taking the lead inside four minutes from a Lee Sawyer goal after a cross from Ben
Gordon, the Arsenal side rallied and run out 3-1 winners.
I ain't gonna apologise for writing this late 'cos really there ain't too much to apologise for
and to write about. The Academy's chances of qualifying for the next round of the Malaysia
Champions Youth Cup look really slim after being held by the U19s of the hosts, Malaysia.
For Chelsea to continue and not catch the next plane home, they will have to beat Bayern Munich
by a handsome score and hope that PSV don't win their last game, otherwise they will be back at
Cobham quickers than they can say 'We have got a long flight home and we have to go back to
Cobham.
I feel so jealous that my fellow 'bloggers' can post goal action of their favourites from the
weekend's action and 'appen from the last few weeks LOL LOL LOL!!
Anyway. Will he or won't he? Thats the question that is being debated and discussed on the
varous Chelsea chat boards concerning our own Captain Marvel - JT - who had his face smashed in by
the 'Lonesome Star' from Texas, Fulham's Clint Demspey in the West London derby on Saturday.
Chelsea left London's Gatwick airport this morning for their long awaited USA tour, a tour which
will see the Blues play three matches in the space of a week.
The majority of the squad travelled this morning, but Sheva, Lamps, Bridge, Shaunie, Carlo and
Glen Johnson have been given permission to join the squad at the hotel in Los Angeles from their
'bad' boys holiday in Las Vegas.
Chelsea are not the only team in action on Tuesday night. The reserves continue their pre-season
with a game against Brentford at Griffin Park, which is Chelsea Reserves new home for matches. Last
week the reserves lost at Hampton and Richmond 1-0 in the third game of their build-up and
astonishingly enough the reserves managed a total of 29 shots on goal!
In the early hours of this morning (unless you are or were in Malaysia) the Academy of Chelsea
went down 1-0 to the youth of PSV in the Malaysia Champions Youth Cup and for the Academy to stand
a chance of qualifying for the next stage, Chelsea need to beat the hosts on Friday afternoon with
a kick off time of 1.30pm UK time (time difference eleswhere well work it out yourself).
Well there ain't no surprise in Johnson leaving Chelsea. Once Belletti's signature ink had dried
on the contract, it was always going to be Glenno leaving the club for one reason and one reason
only - he wasn't a Mourinho signing!
Johnson spent all of last season on loan to Portsmouth and today Portsmouth has spent £4m on
the young right-back.
Some advice. Never take a few days off from writing stuff before the International break
takes-over and in the two week break for Euro 2008 qualifiers, there ain't a lot of stuff that you
can write about and thats my excuse.... wink wink!!!
Seriously after a break from work I have returned today from three days away on business and I
am STILL LOOKING FOR THAT SPONSOR that will give me a wireless internet PC so I can keep this blog
up-to-date 24/7, 365 days a year!
Didier Drogba returns to the Chelsea squad for the final game of the Premiership season at
Stamford Bridge tomorrow against Everton. Jose is also planning to include two more youngsters from
the Academy - Lee Sawyer and Sam Hutchinson - both 17 years old and both have featured heavily for
the reserve team as well as the Academy.
Ben Sahar should retain his place in the squad after impressing Jose as a substitute against Man
Utd on Wednesday night, but unfortunately Scott Sinclair is out after breaking a bone in his foot,
in the same game.
I hate the end of the season, I hate the wait for the new season to start and we have still got
two months before the double Cup Winners kick off again. Normally the press and media are buzzing
about who Chelsea are going to buy and who Chelsea are going to sell, but in this close season
things are so quiet!!!!
Well I can tell you is that I have renewed my season ticket, sorted.
In two weeks time Chelsea kick off their Premiership season at Stamford Bridge against newly
promoted Birmingham City.
But it isn't all about supporting the first team, supporting Chelsea and any other club is ALL
about supporting the club.
As well as the first team, there are the Reserves, the Academy and Chelsea Ladies (who have
become affiliated to Chelsea FC in the last couple of years).
