This has been a fantastic season in Serie A where Juventus ended the season unbeaten winning their
twenty eighth Scudetto. AC Milan and Udinese will be playing in the Champions League next season
while Napoli, Lazio and Inter will be in the Europa. Novara, Cesena and Lecce were sadly relegated
from Serie A to Serie B.
With Serie A rolling into the last match-day, we are settling into one more scrape for survival.
Fiorentina officially achieved salvation with a 1-0 victory over Lecce on Saturday. Novara and
Cesena have officially been relegated and will see each other again in Serie B. Both Lecce and
Genoa lost last week to Fiorentina and Udinese respectively, meaning there is still a three point
gap between.
The title is heading back to Juventus. Inter Milan's 4-2 win in the Milan derby, their second of
the season, all but secured the title for the grand Old Lady who claimed all three points in
Trieste against Cagliari with a two-nil victory. Juve have now 28 undisputed Italian league titles
and 30 if you count the two that were revoked from them.
Not winning a game since early February Genoa are finding themselves in a battle to survive the
drop after their third defeat in seven days. On Sunday they lost away at Bologna and with Lecce
losing as well, Genoa are one point above the relegation zone. A squad that was bought for European
football could be playing Serie B football next season.
On loan Roma striker Marco Borriello scored the only goal to give Juventus a deserved 1-0 away win
at Cesena. Cesena with this result have now been relegated to Serie B. Both Milan clubs won their
games, AC Milan had to thank Kevin Prince Boateng for a late goal. Inter won away at Udinese to
give their push for Champions League Football a reality.
Saturday 28th April Roma v Napoli The game of the weekend is between two teams of contrasting
fortunes. Roma have lost their last two games, a heavy 4-0 loss to Juventus in Turin and a 2-1 home
reverse to Fiorentina. Napoli on the other hand, have beaten strugglers Lecce and Novara to move up
to fourth.
There was some idiotic scenes in the Genoa, as the home side -losing to Siena at the time -were
demanded to take of their jerseys by their own ultras. The reasoning; according to this small
minority of fans the players were not fit enough to wear the club's colours. Marco Rossi, Genoa's
captain, ceded to their demands and went about collecting jerseys from his team-mates.
Saturday 21st April Udinese v Chievo Since their departure from the Europa League in early March,
Francesco Guidolin's side have experienced a dip in form that has seen them lose their grip on the
last Champions League spot. Only three points will do this weekend in Verona, but they will have to
work hard for it.
After Easter Saturday disappointing performance away at Lecce, Roma bounced back with a very
impressive home win over fellow Champions league contenders Udinese where Francesco Totti rolled
back the years with a captain's performance. The other team to win who are chasing third place was
Inter who won at home to Siena, Lazio lost away at Juventus thanks to a late strike from Alex Del
Piero.
Former Juventus striker Amauri gave his old side the upper hand in the Serie A title race with a
last minute goal for his new club Fiorentina away at the San Siro to give the Viola a much needed
win as they fight to stave off relegation. Juventus then went away to Palermo and won 2-0 and now
are thirty one league games unbeaten this season.
Yet another cracking weekend of Calcio in Serie A this weekend, where Juventus unbeaten run
amazingly still continues after they defeated Inter in the Derby D'Italia on Sunday evening with
Alessandro Del Piero rolling back the years. A Zlatan Ibrahimovic brace ensured the leaders picked
up three more points on Roma.

Remarkably Juventus are still unbeaten in the league this season and still sit second in the table
behind AC Milan. The Old Lady won the big game on Sunday night winning the Derby D'Italia against
Inter at a packed lovely Juventus Arena. The night before AC Milan maintained their bid to retain
their title by defeating Roma by coming from a goal down to win 2-1.
On Saturday night Juventus travelled to Florence to take on Delio Rossi Fiorentina side and
demolished the Viola 5-0 and Alessio Cerci got himself stupidly sent off. The race for third is
hotting up as it looks like no wants it. Udinese and Napoli shared four goals in Udine which a
stupid red card for Diego Fabbrini and horrid penalty miss by Edinson Cavani.
A fantastic performance by Napoli on Friday night dispatching six past Cagliari who then sacked
their manager Davide Balladini after the defeat. Inter, AC Milan and Roma picked up wins without
conceding. Juventus were held goalless at Genoa and wasted a hatful of chances to score but had one
harshly ruled out.
Lazio completed a double over city rivals Roma, thanks to a 2-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico. The
game was marred by some awful refereeing decisions and the racial abuse directed at Roma defender
Juan by some sections of the Lazio fans. Juventus were held at home by Chievo on Saturday night. AC
Milan hit four away at Palermo which included a brilliant hat-trick by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Juventus left Milan with a point on Saturday, but not before a drama-filled 90 minutes that still
has fans and the media debating. From phantom goals to offside calls, punches to scuffles, the
match kept the moviola busy and threw in some decent football too. Both sides can feel rightly
aggrieved over a goal disallowed by linesman Roberto Romagnoli, but the fallout now appears to
surround.
In the big game on Saturday night there was a bit of a controversial moment in the game when Sulley
Muntari headed home from close range only for Gigi Buffon to claw it away. Replays showed the ball
crossed the line by at least a yard. The referee pointed back to the centre circle but the linesman
on that side didn't give it.
Atalanta Guglielmo Stendardo joined Atalanta on loan from Lazio until the end of the season. The
30-year-old defender has spent most of past two seasons on the bench at the Rome club, and will be
delighted to get the chance to feature for the first team in Bergamo. (+ve) Another experienced
arrival is midfielder Alessandro Carrozza from Serie B outfit Varese.
None of the top five won at the weekend which meant Roma's impressive home win over Inter was all
the more sweeter as they are moved to joint sixth with Napoli and just five points behind Inter
with a game in hand. AC Milan were unable to overcome a plucky Napoli side in a match where Zlatan
Ibrahimovic disgraced himself by earning a red card for fighting.
Inter and Palermo shared eight goals in a 4-4 thriller where Diego Milito netted all four for Inter
at the San Siro. Roma's defence needs to be looked at as they were humiliated away at Cagliari.
Lazio overcame AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico and the weather managed to play its part as four
games were called off due to the big freeze.
Lecce managed the shock of the round by stunning Inter Milan 1-0, the defeat bringing to an end the
Nerazzurri's six-game winning. Juventus kept their undefeated record intact by defeating highflying
Udinese by two goals to nil in very wet conditions in Turin on Saturday. Alessandro Matri was the
hero on the night as he claimed both strikes.
We are now half way through the Serie A season and the main performance of the week 19 weekend was
Roma's 5-1 win over Cesena on Saturday evening. The Luis Enrique project now seems to be taking
shape. Later that night Juventus won away at Atalanta and with that win were crowned winter
champions. Inter Milan now have won eight games in a row in all competitions after beating Lazio
2-1 in.
One of Serie A biggest derby was played Sunday night and the blue and black side of Milan won the
war. Inter Milan playing as the 'away' side won the derby for the first time in two seasons, thanks
to a second half strike from Diego Milito who capitalised on an Ignazio Abate mistake. Juventus and
Napoli dropped points at home; Lazio got their first win of the season and.
Sunday's afternoons clash at the Stadio Bentegodi was billed as the most important game of the
season so far and one of the most important in the stuttering career of Domenico Di Carlo the
Gialloblu Coach. Coming on the back of three straight defeats and a run of five games without a
win, the pressure was mounting on the former Sampdoria Coach.
In their tenth season out of the last eleven playing top flight football, ‘the flying donkeys'
were initially punching way above their weight. Generally, with the smallest budget, the smallest
squad and the smallest crowds, every season saw the club installed as both the bookies and the
critics favourites for a return to Serie B.
Udinese and Juventus continue to set the pace at the head of Serie A, closely followed by
Napoli, with all three teams earning impressive wins at the weekend.
Udinese remain unbeaten after a 2-0 win against bottom-placed Bologna at the Stadio Friuli, with
Mehdi Benatia and an Antonio Di Natale penalty securing the win.
Probable Formations Round 4 Italian Serie A Big Name Update No Alex Pato for AC Milan, their
Brazilian striker is to be sidelined for about four weeks with a muscular injury out for 4 weeks as
is Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino out with a knee from 5-6 weeks. Inter Milan under new
manager Claudio Ranieri still looking to claim first victory.

It was a frenetic day at the ATA Executive Hotel in Milan on Wednesday as clubs from Italy's
top-flight desperately tried to put the finishing touches to their squads for the season ahead.
After a flurry of last minute activity, sporting directors across the peninsula can now head for
some late summer sunshine before preparing for January when the window will re-open for business.
Season Preview: Chievo Opening/Recap For a side that rarely spends massive amounts of money if any
at all, Chievo managed a fantastic 11th place finish last season. Coach Stefano Pioli organized a
side that was superb defensively, conceding the fourth lowest amount of goals of all the teams in
Serie A- Only Lazio, Napoli, and Milan conceded fewer.

All week we will be unveiling the winners of our Team of the Year voting with a mixture of regular
and guest writers. Here's the first entry, courtesy of the excellent Danny Penza. For much of his
career, Christian Abbiati played second fiddle to a number a different goalkeepers. Right or wrong,
Abbiati rarely got consistent minutes in goal as a starter.

This season of Calcio has been more fascinating than usual, as teams that usually dominate have
struggled (Inter, Roma, Juventus) and some surprise packages have arisen (Napoli, Bologna). Some of
the biggest catalysts are well-known and often heralded. The sparkling form of Edinson Cavani; the
stellar defense of Andrea Ranocchia; Napoli's home fortress: all of which have been reported on.
The Winners Udinese have won again, which is hardly surprising from the team that has taken sixteen
points out of the last eighteen. Fifteenth-placed Catania fell away to Francesco Guidolin's side,
who temporarily moved to third before Napoli won the late game in Serie A. Gokhan Inler netted
early in the side before captain Antonio Di Natale added yet another goal to his tally off a
rigore,.

Julian De Martinis previews the weekends matches for us Lazio Cesena. A game that might be tighter
than expected. The home side have lost two of their last three and will be reeling from their Derby
loss last weekend, as well as the subsequent suspensions of Stefan Radu and Cristian Ledesma.
Cesena, on the other hand, pulled off a very decent draw against Juventus after being down two.
This new weekly feature may be titled "Northern Lights", due to the fact that these Serie A clubs
hail from the north of Italy, but based on league form it would be more propos to entitle it "Lower
End Teams, So Low That Most of Them Are Fighting Relegation." Only one of these teams is truly
shining.
