The £400 million stadium sponsorship deal of West Asian-based airline Etihad with English Premier
League club Manchester City will face an investigation of the European continental football body,
UEFA. Etihad Airways is the national airline of Abu Dhabi, whose ruler is the half-brotherof the
football club's owner, Sheikh Mansour.
The chairman of Uefa's Financial Control Panel, Jean-Luc Dehaene says that he wants more details
on Manchester City's 10-year deal, £400m sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways. Etihad will now
sponsor both the club's shirt and the stadium. The deal has drawn criticism that it is an attempt
to circumvent European football's strict new financial rules due to the close ties between Etihad
(which is owned by the Abu Dhabi government) and Man City (Aby Dhabi's ruler is City owner Sheikh
Mansour's half-brother).
Roberto Mancini is in the firing line after once again sending his team out to play gilded
opponents with one rather than three points the main aim.
Just like they did in the November home fixture against Manchester United, City opted to park the
most expensive bus in world football in front of their goal and invite fellow title challengers to
break them down.
Padraig Harrington was dis-qualified after an eagle-eyed viewer phoned European
Tour Officials, claiming Harrington had inadvertently moved his ball forward when putting it down
on his marker.
Harrington signed for a round of 65, but under the Rules of Golf he should have been given a two
stroke penalty for the ball moving forward hence his dis-qualification at Abu Dhabi.

Theyab Awana, the UAE winger who became an internet sensation after netting a supremely cheeky
back-heeled penalty kick in the UAE's 7-2 demolition of Lebanon in July, has been killed in a car
crash.
