Diaby on course for West Brom comeback | News Archive | News | Arsenal.com Abou Diaby is hoping to return for the home game with West Brom on Saturday. The midfielder has been out since injuring his ankle against Bolton a fortnight ago and will have a fitness test on Friday. Tomas Rosicky (ankle) and Emmanuel Eboue (knee) also face examinations.

Arsene Wenger is a man of many talents but modesty is not among them judging from his most recent outburst. In the aftermath of the announcement that Arsenal had made a record profit in the last financial year Wenger took time out to draw attention to his record for developing young players.

The final list of players registered for the new Premier League season came out yesterday and there were a whole host of questions being asked about Arsenal's list, not least a paper which said our list was a farce. Before we go through the rights or wrong, here's the list.

Young 21 years old Carlos Vela has sent a message to his home country Mexico today, as he converted calmly and with great composure a lovely Cesc Fabregas delivery to make it 4:1 for the Gunners against the Trotters.

The Mexican has received really bad treating by his fellow natives as well as the Mexican press in the last week , especially the latter ones have produced stories which are really far from reality.

For the first time Premier League teams had to name a 25-man squad for the first half of the EPL season and there was a couple of surprises.

All 20 clubs had to submit a squad of up to 25 players containing no more than 17 players who do not qualify as homegrown. Homegrown players are classed as players who "irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday".

There's finally some football today! I know internationals aren't everyone's cup of tea, but these actually mean something and aren't just random friendlies, so that's something right? The Interlull (tm Arseblogger) allows assessment of the season so far, and despite the paucity of games, we have much to discuss.

I would like to start with our esteemed manager. Apart from the GK blip, Wenger has been very good with 3 top class signings in close season.

The midfield has been very good. Nasri continued his pre-season form and looks a fantastic player, his injury is a blow. To see Nasri take on and beat a player then lay off an accurate pass is to see the future of this Arsenal team. Should /When Cesc goes, this will o' the wisp is his natural successor assuming he remains fit.

Should I make a joke about how although it was a comprehensive victory, Arsenal's play had the confidence and swagger of an elite private school. Alright, against my better judgement I will.
I should preface my thoughts on the Bolton game by saying this was a little like a match Arsenal played circa 2004.

Before I started to think about my topic for the day, I was telling myself that I will not talk about the dangerous tackling. But it all changed as soon as I saw the yet another high challenge which lead to another broken leg. This was the Cagliari versus Roma game on Saturday, the highlights of which I saw while doing my customary channel surfing.

Not a great deal going on today as we wait on word on just how severe Abou Diaby's injury is, but there are a couple of things worth talking about:

First, Cesc has come out and said that the team trusts Almunia. The rudder of the Arsenal says: "He is well-loved player among everybody here and performs well for this club.

Firstly poor Abou Diaby is out for a period after Paul Robinson's shocking tackle, it would not surprise me if this turns out to be weeks, the fact that he could barely move his leg after the game does not bode for a quick return. What's to say about a result where you're comfortably outplayed by a team which will probably flirt with relegation? Particularly, because as I heard somebody say outside the stadium, if we had scored in stoppage time to get a draw it would have been an absolute travesty.
