Anyone who saw the results or headlines from the two preseason Emirates Cup games will no doubt be
impressed with the 17 year old Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere. He was easily Man Of The Match in
both games, including scoring 2 against Rangers, the second of which was a glorious rising drive on
the half-volley into the top corner.
One of those that looks bad as soon as you see it! The noise of Diaby's foot coming into contact
with Samir's delicate leg will no doubt lead to months of nightmares for the French star.

Gunners by name, gunners by nature Arsenal's players have come up with a new training technique
that might be a little too revolutionary even by Arsene Wenger's standards: Nerf gunfights! Manuel

on as you are because you are still in the target [.
Ever since Patrick Vieira left Arsenal for Juventus, in the summer of 2005, there has been a
void in Arsenal's midfield enforcer role.
Sure, Gilberto Silva helped clean things up for a few years, and the 2007-08 form of Matthieu
Flamini was a revelation for Arsenal supporters. However, seeing both of those players depart in
the same offseason, was a little too much for Arsenal to handle, and the results showed that.

Wenger revealed why he had not bought either Xabi Alonso or Gareth Barry in the
summer.
Cesc is lonely, crying out for Xabi Alonso "Attractive, slim Spanish guy seeks partner for weekend
strolls in the park. Must be world-class, have GSOH." Neither Abou Diaby, Alex Song nor Denilson
are good enough - yet, at least - to partner...
All you need to know about the last time these two teams met at Anfield.
This time, however, the circumstances surrounding the fixture are a bit different.
After what turned out to be quite a day for the Premier League table, Arsenal are poised to
signal their title intent. Chelsea, United, Tottenham, and City all dropped points, and tomorrow
presents Arsenal with the chance to start to distance themselves from the rest of the fourth
through eighth-place jumble.

Some of Europe's biggest clubs will see coaching changes this summer - Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Ajax
and now Juventus (with the dismissal of Claudio Ranieri).
With jobs like these now open, it leads you to believe if a major coaching carousel won't start to
go round and round, with names like Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Marco van
Basten being mentioned at filling some of these posts.
Arsenal 4 1 Portsmouth Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby scored two goals in the first half as they
piled on the pressure on the Pompeys. Diaby scored the first goal on the 18th minute after Eduardo,
making his first start of the season, crossed the ball from the left hand side. Three minutes
later, the midfielder [.
If I have to hear one more time about how Arsenal's forward line is experiencing a goal drought, I
may just shoot the person who professes this view.
It's unimportant because firstly, Eduardo scored against Everton; and secondly, and perhaps more
pertinently, the 4-3-3 is not the ultra-attacking formation its made out to be: Arshavin and
Bendtner have consistently tracked back, rather than playing as fully-fledged strikers who just
play in attack.
. The first half began with the teams cancelling each other out, but both sides began to slowly
grow into the game with Arsenal emerging as the dominant force throughout. Quick runs followed by
precise passes were the order of the day, and the Gunners maintained their form throughout. Andrey
Arshavin was taken down in the area [.
Two weeks ago I went to watch Arsenal take on Manchester United at the pub. After two hours of
viewing I emerged in one of the most annoyed states I've ever been in after a football game.
Somehow, after out playing throughout the majority of the game, Arsenal lost 2-1 to Manchester
United.
Arsenal hosted Birmingham City on Saturday, October 17, 2009 in the English Premier League.
Here's a recap and video highlights of the match.
Arsenal beats Birmingham City 3-1 Video Highlights
Arsenal cruised to a 3-1 in against Birmingham City on Saturday, October 17, 2009 in the
EPL.
As Manchester United midfield's trio flourished against Arsenal in the first leg, there is no
doubt that they could once again be the key for United's quest for another Champions League trophy
in successive years.
Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Anderson were all rested at the weekend, meaning they are
probably likely to feature against Arsenal in this very important clash.
Arsenal continued their brilliant start to the season with a scintillating display against a
depleted Portsmouth.
Abou Diaby marked his return from injury with a brace before Kaboul headed in a rare chance for
the away side. Gallas restored the two goal lead with a header, and Ramsey steered clear of the
defence to put Arsenal back on top of the table.
Another week is past, and you know what that means: yet another A to Z breakdown of this week in
Premier League action. Here we go...
A is for Abou Diaby. The underrated Arsenal midfielder grabbed a brace on
Saturday as he led Arsenal to yet another early season romp.
It was a dive. It was a dive. It was a dive.
Despite every Arsenal fan accepting that, we still have had it repeated ad nauseam. All day long.
So I thought it should be said a few more times.
Goodplaya's description of events is perfect:
Last night Eduardo did what a million strikers do – nudge the ball past the keeper
and trust his momentum will provide enough contact to yield a penalty.
Not clutch under pressure
Arsenal gave the game away today to Manchester United - an Abou Diaby own goal doing in the Gunners
at Old Trafford.
While much of the excitement in the game occurred off the ball - with Arsene Wenger getting sent to
the stands for kicking a water bottle on the touchline, there were a few important informational
bits to note on the field from a fantasy football perspective:
- Ben Foster looked poor despite somehow (shockingly) picking up 2 bonus points.

Young Hotshot Carlos Vela was introduced after 77 Minutes in tonights UEFA Champions League
clash with Olympiacos Piräus, as Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has decided to give the young
Mexican a run out to replace French midfielder Abou Diaby.
The plan of the French man was that Vela can force some problems on the wings for the back four
line of Olympiacos.
I can still remember my first impression of Arsene Wenger when he took over as Arsenal manager back
in 1996. He had the look of a geography teacher about him and came across as being very studious. A
few of us in that Arsenal side were of an age where we were set in our ways, but also looking over
our shoulders to see how long we had left in the game.
One of the most remarkable things about this season so far apart from the painful fact that we
trail the scum in the table, is the fact our central defender Vermaelen is top scorer. Now is the
fact that we have had thirteen different players score goals in the Premier league a good thing or
something to worry about?
Arsenal beat Birmingham thanks to goals from Robin van Persie, Abou Diaby and Andrey Arshavin. Full
report to come.
See below, as always, for match highlights and a post-match interview with Arsene Wenger.
Another multi-goal margin of victory. Another "more than two goals" tally. Another soft goal
conceded. Arsenal have seemingly picked up where they left off before the international break.
Birmingham's visit to North London proved to be an entertaining match that is open to
interpretation.
Watching delayed coverage of yesterday's Champions League match between Villareal and Arsenal, I
have to say I was very impressed with 'the yellow submarine'. In Giuseppe Rossi, Matias Fernandez
and Marcos Senna they have three truly world class players, and while Senna is coming towards the
end of his career, Rossi and Fernandez have very [.
So that's it. Another season over.
All I saw of yesterday's game were the Match of the Day highlights. A James Beattie own goal,
two from Robin van Persie to bring his tally for the season to 20, and an Abou Diaby header gave us
the win we all wanted to round the season off with.
I really can't tell you any more about the game than that but I'm glad we finished on a positive
note.
I had a theory. The theory was that since there was such a dearth of Arsenal news, I would leave a
reasonable gap between each post - that way I would still have something to write throughout the
summer.
Well actually I didn't blog for three main reasons:
1) I had exams and had to pretend that I was revising.
The sports pages were full of the cricketer who almost single handedly tore the heart out of the
Australian cricket team by his bowling performance on the last day of the second Ashes test match
at Lords. This is a football blog, but as I watched the highlights on Monday evening in awe, I
couldn't help admiring the desire and effort put into what can only be described as the finest
spell of consistent fast bowling within this amphitheatre of cotton clad Gladiators, the home of
cricket.

Arsenal continued their impressive start to the new season with a convincing 4-1 Premier League
victory over troubled Portsmouth at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners made light work of Pompey as Abou Diaby struck a brace, William Gallas continued his
rich vein of form in front of goal and Aaron Ramey scored his first top-flight goal.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger compared Frenchman Abou Diaby to one of the legends of the club,
Patrick Vieira. The 23-year old was the man of the match for the Gunners in yesterday's 4-1 win
over Portsmouth and is poised to enjoy plenty of starts this season.
After his performance, Wenger said:
His ability to win the ball back is just like Vieira.
"If somebody stamps on your head in that way, you wouldn't say, 'thank you very
much' and turn the other cheek. Only Jesus Christ did that."
Wenger backs Van Persie for speaking out about the unholy incident.
"I don't watch Match of the Day, I watch Coronation Street
instead.
Eduardo scored a late winner as Arsenal staged a second-half comeback to win 3-2 at Standard
Liege in their Champions League Group H opener.
Arsenal found themselves two down inside five minutes with Eliaquim Mangala's low drive followed by
a Milan Jovanovic penalty.
Contrary to the last one, Arsenal go into this new International break with plenty to smile
about. Back-to-back wins, six goals, players clicking together, Cesc Fabregas back to his best and
we're also closer to the top of the table.
Writing about such an incredible win comes easy, reason why I prefer amongst other things of
course to expand a little on Abou Diaby.
Morning all,
Arsenal moved into the top four yesterday with a good win over Birmingham, but it wasn't quite
as comfortable as we would have liked. We started well, pretty much bossed the game and it was no
surprise when in the 15th minute Robin van Persie put us ahead. Collecting a low, hard pass from
Alex Song his first touch was quite brilliant and his finish first class.
Arsenal midfielders Abou Diaby and Andrey Arshavin have both spoken out ahead of their Champions
League clash with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. Diaby has clamored for better defensive displays while
Arshavin has stated his ambitions to win a Premier League and Champions League double.
"It is always good to win every game and stay in first place," said Diaby.
Free-scoring Arsenal continued their dominance of Champions League Group H with a stunning 4-1
drubbing of AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday night.
The Gunners are in top spot and unbeaten in their group, and proved far too classy for the Dutch
visitors at The Emirates, where skipper Cesc Fabregas bagged a brace and was joined on the
scoresheet by Samir Nasri and Abou Diaby, who netted a sublime fourth of the night on 72 minutes
after some flowing build-up play from Eduardo and Andrey Arshavin.
