Aston Villa's new away kit
Verdict: Very stripey, quite classy, reminiscent of an Eighties England kit. Gareth Barry
may or may not be wearing it in 09/10 though. Another pic below:
Villa's English connection: Messrs Milner, Young and Agbonlahor. Nice pic.
Aberdeen's new home kit
Verdict: Stripes are the new black, clearly.

If the Houston Dynamo is to continue its relative MLS success next season, it will
likely have to do so without two of their most talented players.
Midfielders Ricardo Clark and Stuart Holden are out of contract at season's end, and
both players are unlikely to return to the club, having been strongly linked with moves to Europe
during the upcoming winter transfer window.

The winter transfer window is only a few weeks from opening and rumors continue to swirl about
various players. In Major League Soccer, there are several players who are attracting interest from
the top European leagues. One of these is American International and Houston Dynamo player Stuart
Holden.
Stuart Holden has plenty of offers now. (Getty Images)
We know MLS is trying to keep him but some clubs overseas want to have him pretty badly.
According to multiple reports out of England and Scotland, Premier League side Blackburn Rovers
is now in hot pursuit of Stuart Holden.
Of course that goes with Holden's other possible suiters in SPL clubs Aberdeen and Rangers.
Fantastic news concerning Byron Webster, who we interviewed back in May whilst he was with Czech
side FK Siad Most. The Yorkshire youngster has clinched a move to Championship side Doncaster
Rovers following a successful trial. Webster, who has previously played for York City and a number
of northern non-league sides impressed in central defence [.
Yes, that's right. Another J. Smith. Scottish winger Jamie Smith, currently at Aberdeen, is being
linked to us by the Evening Express, as well as by this article from the Telegraph.
I've never seen Smith play, but from what I can gather, he's a short guy, and he likes to take on
defenders and has a very direct approach to his play.

After enjoying a dream year for club and country, Houston Dynamo midfielder Stuart Holden is
largely considered to be the next player in the U.S. pipeline to make the jump from MLS to Europe
during the upcoming winter transfer window. But that potential move seems to be in jeopardy after
MLS made an unexpected move.
Could the veteran Englishman and one of the best crossers of the ball in MLS be headed to the rave
green clad Seattle team? Truth be told, many of the Colorado faithful were sad to see Cooke go and
Seattle acquiring his services could be yet another coup for the Emerald City based club.
David Falk the Seattle soccer Examiner tells us that he is training with the Sounders.
Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen have revealed their new 2009-10 Home Kit. The new Dons home
strip is manufactured by Nike, and is constructed using Nike's Dri-Fit fabric. It is an all red
outfit, and Nike seem to have gone retro with the design. The shirt is red with horizontal white
stripes. Nike have their logo [.
The following comes to us via anonymous email, do with it what you will:
MLSR, I have it on good authority that Jamie Smith, a striker currently with Aberdeen in Scotland
is set to sign with Toronto FC having already agreed to terms Please keep my name anonymous. Thank
you.
Short and to the point.
Onetime Toronto FC target, Aberdeen's winger/striker Jamie Smith is set to sign with Colorado as is
Argentine striker Facundo Diz, who has long been rumored to be joining the mile high club.
Excerpt courtesy of the Denver Post:
In addition to signing 30-year-old French defender Julien Baudet, the Rapids — pending any
paperwork snafus — will add 30-year-old Argentine striker Facundo Diz, formerly with Atletico
Platense, and 28-year-old Scottish winger Jamie Smith, who was last at Aberdeen and played with
Rapids assistant Steve Guppy at Celtic.
Another headline that's surely never been written in the history of the English language.
This story takes us to Scotland, where it turns out a bunch of Aberdeen fans were dressed as sheep
as they rode the train to an upcoming soccer match against Hibs in Edinburgh.
One unfortunate 24-year-old dude was apparently set alight and ran through the cars with his
sheep-suit engulfed in flames.
Dirty defender set for therapy Hearts are considering sending defender Marius Zaliukas on an anger
management course after he received his fourth red card of the season against Aberdeen on Tuesday
night. The automatic five-match suspension will take the Lithuanian up to 18 games missed through
suspension this season!
Rangers returned to their winning ways with a crucial victory over Aberdeen on Saturday at Ibrox
Stadium as midfielder Maurice Edu started and went the full 90 minutes for the Light Blues.
DaMarcus Beasley however, did not suit up for head coach Walter Smith.
Hugh McIlvanney is a well-respected journalist for The Times, and he was granted a 1-on-1 interview
with Sir Alex Ferguson.
McIlvanney has followed Ferguson's career since his days at Aberdeen - being in Gothenburg when he
gained his first major European honour — the Cup Winners' Cup when they defeated Real Madrid.
Rangers star's antics get Aberdeen player sent off Kyle Lafferty pretended to be headbutted by
Aberdeen's Charlie Mulgrew during Saturday's SPL match at Ibrox. Lafferty fell to the ground as if
he'd been properly nutted, when in fact Mulgrew hardly...
If one player could emulate the skills of both Brazilian legend Rivaldo and current WPOTY Cristiano
Ronaldo, that player would be one unstoppable step-over fueled goal machine right? Well, it all
depends on which skills said player decided to take. Rangers Northern Irish striker Kyle Lafferty
decided Rivaldo's hilarious corner flag routine (second link for that [.
According to this article, Jamie Smith is set to sign for us. The former Aberdeen and Celtic
midfielder has apparently impressed on a four-day trial and is being offered a contract. Smith has
been capped by Scotland before, so there is obviously some talent there, but he's coming off of an
injury-plagued season in the SPL.
A few more players to say ‘Goodbye' to on Les Rosbifs, as the thorough sifting of the list
continues unabated. The biggest one of these is the departure of former Manchester United and
Manchester City winger Terry Cooke from Colorado Rapids of the MLS. Cooke was waived yesterday so
that the Rapids English coach, Gary [.
A number of new additions have cropped up in recent days too, primarily in Scotland as I have
worked at ensuring the list is up-to-date for the four divisions north of the border. Someone who
has not been mentioned yet is new Celtic manager Tony Mowbray. The former Middlesbrough and Celtic
defender, who has previously [.
The SPL returns today. I know this momentous moment in the nation's cultural and sporting life is
being celebrated. Up and down the country flags are being raised as an entire population quivers
with anticipation of finding out, in about 10 months, which one of two evil empires will win the
league.Anyway.
In the aftermath of Arsenal's perhaps suprising but fully deserved 6-1 victory over Everton in
the Premier League's opening weekend, the confidence mustered by many of the Celtic fans following
the Champions' League qualifying draw may have just evaporated away.
Arsenal were simply breathtaking.
Rangers host Celtic on Sunday, October 4, 2009 in another edition of the Old Firm. It's one of
the most heatest rivalries in all of Europe with over 350 matches played. Rangers hold the
advantage overall in total wins but its still very close. Who will win on Sunday? Can Rangers pick
up points on Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic?
Fancy dress supporter train blaze An Aberdeen supporter dressed as a sheep was set alight on a
train on his way home from their match against Hibs on Saturday. The 24-year-old suffered serious
burns to his arms and legs when his suit caught fire on a train in Fife. The victim reportedly ran

Six. That's the number of days left in the January transfer window, probably the most spectacularly
unexciting transfer window we can recall. Aye we know, credit crunch and all that, but still, we
wish something would just .... happen.
Today's afternoon clash between Aberdeen and Celtic is the 257th League meeting between the
two.
Up until the early 90s, Aberdeen had a better record against Celtic at Pittodrie, but since then
have lost this, in fact until winning this season they hadn't won since December 2001, only 1
victory in 12 games at home - during this spell, in the 1999-2000 season Celtic scored 23 goals in
the 4 games against Aberdeen, including 5-0 and 6-0 wins at Pittodrie.
Sir Alex Ferguson has had tremendous success in European competition throughout his career, winning
cups with both Aberdeen in the 1980's and at Manchester United. He now advances to his third
European Champions League Final - in 1999, 2008 and now again this season.
In the cases of both 2008 and 2009, a similar approach helped his team advance to the Finals.
Rangers will look to return to their winning ways on Saturday when they host Aberdeen at Ibrox
Stadium.
Today's clash at Ibrox between Rangers and Aberdeen is the 255th League meeting between the two
sides.
Rangers have the edge both home and away in this fixture, winning 76 at home against 23 loses
(27 draws) and also away from home with 43 wins and only 38 loses (47 draws) - in total it's 119
wins, 74 draws and 61 loses so far for the Glasgow team.
- Maurice Edu and Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-1 to go top of the Scottish Premier League. Celtic
plays tomorrow, but until then Rangers remain three points clear.
Having a good lafferty at Mulgrew's expense?
Charlie Mulgrew found out after being sent off in a Oscar worthy moment by Kyle Lafferty. The
Rangers forward fell feigning injury over a head butt with the Aberdeen defender. The fracas
resulted in Mulgrew's expulsion. It would have made (insert here customary cheap pot shot at)
Cristiano Ronaldo proud.
Is Sir Alex Ferguson the best manager the game of football have ever seen? Just look at the
amount of trophies he has won. After collecting Manchester United's 11th Premier League title on
Saturday, he immediately said that he may stay for another five years.
He has built so many different teams for Man Utd, yet he has still managed to make them
succeed.
The draw for the first qualifying round of the Europa League took place this earlier on today.
Included in the draw where last years winner of the Fair Play League, Motherwell, and Scottish Cup
runners-up Falkirk.
Motherwell wont have to travel too far for their two games. They've been drawn
against Welsh side Llanelli, while Falkirk will play
Vaduz of Liechtenstein at the second qualifying stage.

As we get ready for the start of the 2009/10 season (now a little over a month away), we take a
quick look back at last season.
We take a look at last nights pre-season friendlies. Aberdeen win (if only just), while Celtic and
Accies both fail to score and St Mirren get a right tanking. New boys St Johnstone do us proud
though!
