The Wizards played a friendly today at their Swope Park training complex against the U-23 Arkansas
Wizards. Hillcrest Road has a more indepth write up on the game. The Wizards, though, had no
problem taking out their Arkansas counterparts, as they beat them 13-0. All healthy Wizards players
got into the game and most played a half.
With the trade yesterday for Abe Thompson, the Wizards had to make room on their senior roster for
him. To make room, the Wizards waived 3rd year midfielder, Ryan McMahen. Most of you are probably
saying "Who?", well I'm going to give you some information on what McMahen's been doing
with us the past almost 3 years.
This team is not good. Today in Houston, it was abundantly clear, as the Wizards fell to Houston
3-1. In hot an humid conditions down in Houston, the Wizards lost Matt Marquess to cramps before
the game had even started. When the game started the team came out a little sluggish, Houston did
at the same time though, and it was a rather dull start to the game.
Contract negotiations are starting to heat up in Texas, according to Soccer America's Ridge
Mahoney, as FC Dallas has been successful in getting American defender Drew Moor to re-sign with
the club. At the same time, however, talks have soured with star striker Kenny Cooper, leading to a
suspension of negotiations between the two parties until the season is over.
NPR is in the building this evening preparing a story on Jorge Flores and tabbed your truly for
a quick interview, so I'm a little late with the lineups.
The night's important numbers: the Wizards have won just once on the road this season and and
Colorado's 5-4 win over the Red Bulls earlier today means Chivas USA is third in the table and
seven points behind Western Conference leaders Houston, which drew 1-1 with Toronto.
FC Dallas parted with Abe Thompson for some allocation money. With recently acquired Herculez Gomez
from Colorado, it looks like the Wizards are trying to bolster an attack that has been weak and
still try to make it into the playoffs. Courtesy of:-the Patrician

Kansas...
The Kansas City Wizards continue to add pieces to their roster, hoping the last-second
reinforcements will push their club over the top in the postseason race. After adding striker
Herculez Gomez a day earlier, the Wizards announced the acquisition of FC Dallas forward Abe
Thompson on Friday, added in exchange for allocation money.
The Wizards are back on the field on Sunday when they travel down to Houston to take on the Houston
Dynamo. KC has been busy the past couple days, adding two forwards to their roster by way of
trades. Both Herculez Gomez and Abe Thompson are going to be available for selection for the game
on Sunday.
Thad over at The Back Post has two interviews up, with the two newest Wizards, Abe Thompson and
Herculez Gomez. Good listen so check it out. The weekly interview with Davy Arnaud and Kevin
Hartman should be up later.
Time is running out for MLS teams to make changes to their rosters this season; after 5:00 p.m.,
they will no longer be able to do so until MLS Cup has been played. With today being the 'deadline
day,' should you expect to hear about any significant trades going down? Probably not, but names
like Hunter Freeman, Abe Thompson and Herculez Gomez have all been on the move in the past week,
showing that there are still teams out there willing to make a move at the last minute.
A win is always welcome at this venture of the season. With every match extremely crucial to
having a shot at the postseason, these three points will go a long way. The new signings (not so
new anymore) Abe Thompson and Herculez Gomez left a strong mark on the match, with Gomez looking
dangerous on a number of different occasions.
According to 3rd Degree sources Abe Thompson has been traded to the Kansas City Wizards in exchange
for allocation money.
Looks like the Kansas City Wizards are trying to make a serious push towards the playoffs. This
morning they have traded for Abe Thompson from FC Dallas in exchange for an undisclosed amount of
allocation money. This marks the second striker that the Wizards have traded for this week (the
other being Herculez Gomez from Colorado).
A few days after acquiring Herculez Gomez from Colorado, the Wizards have made another trade. This
time, the Wizards acquired FC Dallas forward, Abe Thompson for allocation money. Thompson gives the
Wizards another option up front along with Gomez. Is it too late for the Wizards this season?
Possibly.
With the trade today for former FCD striker Abe Thompson, we added our second attacking player in
the last two days. Add the trade for Herculez Gomez into the mix, and we've acquired two
26-year-old forwards who are very different but exciting players. Combined, they have 36 goals and
19 assists in just over six total seasons.
In Bob Luder's article today about the newest Wizard, Abe Thompson, we get mention that Thompson
will be starting up top on Saturday against LA. Onalfo says that Thompson brings a calming
influence to the team, and are incorporating him into the offense to get him ready for this
Saturday. With that said, we'll likely see Claudio Lopez drop back into the midfield, as Thompson
will go up top with Josh Wolff.
The Wizards returned to Arrowhead for the only time this season and came away with a big 2-0 win
over the LA Galaxy. While last week seemed hopeless, this game, gives hope to the idea that the
Wizards actually could make the playoffs this year. With 4 of the last 6 games at home, the Wizards
can certainly put up a fight for a playoff spot, but will need help to get in.
