The story of the Wednesday night MLS games turned out to be the late show, with San Jose getting a
3-2 win over Los Angeles at the Home Depot Center. Hector Jimenez opened the scoring for the Galaxy
three minutes in, but would be sent off in the 59th minute. LA's Mike Magee doubled the lead in the
73rd.
It seems the Los Angeles Galaxy can't catch a single break so far this season.
Not even a two-goal lead was enough for the Galaxy, not on Wednesday night against the San Jose
Earthquakes, and while the Galaxy did itself no favors by being forced to play a man down for the
remaining 31 minutes of the match, the Quakes rally was still stunning, and fittingly, it was Alan
Gordon who capped off the comeback, as his header at the death gave San Jose an improbable 3-2 win
over the Galaxy at the Home Depot Center.
Borussia Dortmund dominated at home, Cologne were relegated, and much more in the German
Bundesliga on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
Borussia Dortmund 4-0 SC Freiburg
Dortmund capped an impressive season with two goals from Robert Lewandowski and Jacub
Blaszczykowski.
FC Augsburg 1-0 Hamburg SV
Koo Ja-Cheol scored the winning goal as Augsburg finished in 14th place.
The New England Revolution lost 2-1 to Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night,
but Jay Heaps will take a lot of positive aways from what was a good New England performance.
Blake Brettschneider scored a fantastic goal to put the Revs (3-6-0, 9 pts.) ahead in the 22nd
minute, but the lead was short-lived as Saborio pulled RSL (7-3-1, 22 pts.
The New England Revolution's grueling eight-day, three-game campaign closed on a sour note
tonight as the Revs fell 2-1 against their hosts Real Salt Lake. The match itself was as exciting
as any soccer fan could hope for. Unfortunately, RSL was able to take advantage of several of the
Revolution's reoccurring downfalls, including a lack of finish in front of the net, and secure all
three points.
It was a game that had something for everyone.
A sensational goal by Blake Brettschneider. Check. A pair of world-class goalkeeping clinics,
courtesy of Matt Reis and Nick Rimando. Check. A pair of red cards. Check. Oh, and end-to-end
action. Check.
About the only thing the match didn't have was a result for the Revolution, who's late-game
opportunities fell by the wayside in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto
Stadium.
U.S. Soccer Development Academy alum Will Bruin (St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri) continues
to impress, even though his Houston Dynamo team is in the midst of a four-game winless stretch.
Bruin tallied both Dynamo goals during Houston's 3-2 loss to D.C. United on Saturday at RFK
Stadium.

It had been six years since Bill Gaudette had started a game in Major League Soccer. His start
Saturday proved an eventful one.
Gaudette filled in for starter Josh Saunders and held Dallas to one goal in a 1-1 draw with
Dallas. He faced his first shots in the game's first minute and stopped four shots on the day.
Former St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri player Will Bruin had one of his most productive Major
League Soccer performances this past weekend. The 11th overall selection of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft
for the first time recorded both a goal and an assist during the Houston Dynamo's 2-2 road draw
against the Columbus Crew on Saturday at Crew Stadium.
Borussia Dortmund clinched the title, Bayern Munich won at Werder Bremen, and Leverkusen edged
Hoffenheim in the German Bundesliga on April 21, 2012.
FC Cologne 1-1 VfB Stuttgart
Cologne took an early second half lead with a 49th minute Slawomir Peszko goal but Stuttgart
equalized with a 70th minute Cacau goal.
Lyon reached the Coupe de France final by beating Ajaccio 4-0 on Tuesday. Their scoring barrage
didn't begin until after Ajaccio's Anthony Collinet was shown a straight red for his ugly challenge
from behind on Alexandre Lacazette in the 38th minute (the commentators clearly were not
impressed), which prompted a scuffle on the pitch between the two teams.
Borussia Monchengladbach's recent struggles continued, Bayern and Dortmund both won, and much
more in the German Bundesliga on April 7, 2012.
Bayern Munich 2-1 Augsburg
Bayern took an early lead (1st minute) with a Mario Gomez but Augsburg responded with a 22nd
minute Koo Ja-Cheol goal.
Guy Kabala and Declan McCabe scored for the Revolution U17s on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as
New England dropped a 4-2 loss to the Orlando Pirates (South Africa) in their final match of the
2012 Future Champions Guateng tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Kabala struck in the 22nd minute while McCabe capped the scoring in the 59th minute.
The Revolution U-17s bounced back from Monday's shutout loss to earn a 3-3 draw against SAFA
School of Excellence (South Africa) on Tuesday in the second game of the 2012 Future Champions
Gauteng tournament in South Africa.
Gabe Gissie (4′), Guy Kabala (30′) and Amadu Kunateh (59′) scored for the Revolution while
Aubrey Modiba (5′), Tshepo Mashigo (17′) and Kabelo Moshane (60′) penciled their names on the
sheet.
A Hanyar Mosquera own goal proved to be the equalizer in Monday's 1-1 draw between the Portland
Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes in MLS pre-season action at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland.
Both Western Conference sides trotted out strong starting lineups in a tightly-contested
match.
English FA Cup Recap 18 February 2012 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
Below are brief recaps for all the FA Cup matches on February 18, 2012.
Chelsea 1-1 Birmingham
Birmingham starts off strong with a 20th minute Danny Murphy goal but Chelsea equalizes with a
62nd minute Daniel Sturridge goal.
The Jay Heaps era got off to a winning start as the New England Revolution beat FC Tucson
(Premier Development League) 2-0 in their 2012 preseason opener. Sainey Nyassi and Kenny Mansally
were the Revs goalscorers.
Instead of the traditional two 45-minute periods, the match featured two 35-minute periods
followed by an additional 45-minute period.
Two weeks ago Clint Dempsey made headlines with his first career hat trick, hitting the back of
the net three times in Fulham FC's 4-0 FA Cup Third Round win over Football League One (English
second division) side Charlton Athletic.
Now, just a day after being named 2011 U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year, Dempsey is in the
news again, with another three goal performance.
Liverpool were desperate for a win after drawing 5 of their last 6 home games.
To make matters worse they had to lineup without top goal scorer Luis Suarez, after the striker
received a one match ban from his finger gesture to Fulham fans. This could be a sign of things to
come in the new year as his 8 match ban for racism is still under appeal.

As we learned last week, Christmas cheer may be high all across the Serie A, but come the
weekend, festivities had to be put on hold for some actual football. This weekend's round of
fixtures was the penultimate before the winter break. So what happened this weekend?
On Saturday, current reigning champions Milan retook their place at the top of the table with a
hard-won victory over struggling Siena.

Manchester United will go into their last group stage match needing to snare at least a point
against Basel to make it through to the knockout stages after flapping their way to a draw against
Benfica (who qualified themselves as a result) at Old Trafford last night.
By JOHN BOSCHINI
Real Madrid entered the fifth matchday of UEFA Champions League already having qualified for the
knockout rounds, so a more subdued performance from the Spanish giants wouldn't have been a
complete surprise. That's not quite what happened, though,.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Columbus Crew came into Gillette Stadium Saturday night knowing all it
needed to secure a fourth consecutive playoff berth was a win over the last-placed New England
Revolution. Ninety minutes and one of its more dominant performances of the year later, the Crew
had done just that.

CARSON, Calif.-- An own goal proved decisive as the Los Angeles Galaxy continued their pursuit
of the Supporters Shield by overcoming their first halftime deficit of the season in a 2-1 victory
over Real Salt Lake.
RSL was able to put the Galaxy on their heels in the 45th minute when Fabian Espindola opened
the scoring, but a goal by Chad Barrett and an own goal by RSL's Nat Borchers gave the Galaxy the
victory.
It's been a week of grinding out results for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Last Saturday, a stoppage time strike by Chad Barrett earned three points against the Columbus
Crew on the road, then three days later, another last minute goal, this time from Juninho game the
Galaxy a 2-1 win over visiting Monarcas Morelia that kept alive LA's hopes of advancing to the
quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League Tournament.
Seattle 6 - Columbus 2 With Seattle coach Sigi Schmid stressing the importance of the MLS and Open
Cup schedule in fielding a weak lineup in Mexico, Columbus proved little problem for the Sounders
at CenturyLink Field. Seattle was already up four goals when Jeff Cunningham converted a penalty
kick in the 59th minute to become Major League Soccer's all-time leading scorer.
The Colorado College women's soccer team got the better of the statistics line on Friday
afternoon against Utah State, but not in the one count that mattered the most.
The Aggies scored on their only two shots of the game and escaped Stewart Field with a 2-1
victory in a game that started 30 minutes late because of lightning.
Arsenal progressed to the Champions League proper for the 14th consecutive
season with a hard fought 2-1 win over Serie A side Udinese in Italy to-night.
However it wasn't all plain sailing for the Gunners who fell behind to a looping Di Natale
header 6 minutes before half-time.

In the land of draws, the Chicago Fire are kings.
Last night, La Maquina Roja looked well on their way to their third win of the season
after dominating DC United at home for about 70 minutes. Sebastian Grazzini had given the home side
the lead early in the second half and United's attack looked spent.
Was that the most satisfying win of the season? It was maybe not unexpected as the win over Real
Salt Lake, but that one developed over a longer period of time. It was probably not as gutterly
pleasing as the road win over the Portland Timbers, but this seemed considerably more far-fetched.
Unlike literally every.

It seems that Sporting Kansas City never quite has 90 minutes in the tank against the Seattle
Sounders.
Two late, late second half goals from Mauro Rosales and substitute Lamar Neagle condemned
Sporting Kansas City to its second loss to Seattle of the season in the closing minutes of the
match.
Arsenal played a team of Malaysia's best today on their pre-season tour in SE Asia, and
predictably won in convincing fashion, 4-0.
The match was streamed for free on arsenal.com, so look at the schedule for coming games. Our
next match is this Saturday in China.
I didn't catch the first half, so instead of a match report and player rating I'm going to go
over our four goals and some other chances we had.
Japan's dream run in the Women's World Cup continues.
After falling behind in the 10th minute, Japan scored three unanswered goals and defeated
Sweden, 3-1, in Wednesday's semifinal to advance to the final against the United States.
Josefine Oqvist put Sweden, which topped the United States in the group stage, ahead early with
a clinical finish, but the lead was a short-lived one.
Sebastian Grazzini will join the Fire on July 15th when the transfer window opens. He joins the
club from Argentinian Primera side All Boys whom he played with in 2010 Apertura and the Clausura
of 2011.
The Fire had this to say about him:
"We are excited to bring Sebastián to the Fire," said Technical Director and Interim Head Coach
Frank Klopas.

July 9, 2011: One of the most memorable days in Women's World Cup history.
If there was anything that could upstage the brilliant cat-and-mouse match won by France over
England, it was a determined Japanese squad that deposed the host nation Germany with a stunning
extra time goal.

It seems all England national teams have something common: penalty kicks are their
kryptonite.
England's women's national team was bounced out of the World Cup after losing 4-3 on penalty
kicks to France after a 1-1 draw in a quarterfinal match on Saturday.
Reigning MLS player of the month Graham Zusi played like he is trying to make it two in a row
Wednesday night. With Sporting KC down one at home to Colorado in the 62nd minute, Zusi corralled
the ball after CJ Sapong's near miss and scored his third goal of the year.
Sporting KC held on for the draw and extended its unbeaten streak to nine straight MLS
games.
