Just looking through some of the pre-season predictions around the soccer world, today's matchup
would appear to be a huge mismatch. While the Sounders are predicted to make the playoffs almost
unanimously, the Union are expected to finish in dead last by almost the exact same margin.
Among those throwing their support behind the Sounders are Soccer Inside Steven Goff and Soccer
America who each predict at least a conference title; Climbing the Ladder and 3rd Degree goes one
step further and predicts a MLS championship; even RSL Soapbox thinks we'll finish on top of the
conference.
3rd Degree reported last week that FC Dallas had found a striker and would be making an
announcement "in about a week" as to the identity of the player. According to 3rd Degree sources,
the striker FCD has signed is none other than their former player Carols Ruiz. Ruiz has been
playing well for Puebla but according to our sources was desperate to return to the states for
personal reasons.
Per Buzz at the 3rd Degree, Schellas Hyndman let slip at practice today that MLS rosters will
expand to 30 next year. This is fairly big news on the back of word that the schedule will be 34
games long (in a 32 week span); the more players teams have to compete with multiple fronts, the
better.
This is just beginning to make the rounds, and does appear "new".
In the wake of some sub-par performances this spring, FC Dallas has parted ways with the recent
signing Aziz Anseh. Brought to Dallas in theory to replace Heath Pearce at right back, Anseh has
failed to live up to expectations. It seems clear at this point that Anseh must not have had a
guaranteed contract.
3rd Degree has learned that FC Dallas will not be bringing back legendary broadcaster Brad Sham as
their play by play man for the 2010 season. Instead the FCD broadcast team will consist of two
former players with Bobby Rhine working play by play and Steve Jolly as the color commentator. Brad
Sham has been working FC Dallas games since 1998 and has done TV work on soccer dating back to the
NASL days in 1972.
It has been reported that the MLS rights to Kevin Hartman have been traded to FC Dallas and that
Kevin has agreed to terms with Dallas. I have not been able to independently confirm this but if
Buzz from 3rd Degree is reporting it, then it is accurate.
