Currently FC Dallas holds the top spot in the allocation order. Buzz Carrick from 3rd Degree
wants it done, can you blame him? I wonder if Dallas would really pass on him if he came back to
the league. I also wonder if he'd be enough to get Dallas back into the playoff hunt this season
(doubtful).

There has been a lot of heated debate about Rafa's signings and overall effectiveness since the
‘leaked' conversation between George Gillett and a member of the ‘Spirit of Shankly' group. How
much cash has Rafa really spent since becoming manager and how much has he brought back in through
sales?

There seems to be a lot of confusion over how much Liverpool paid/will eventually pay Roma for the
services of Alberto Aquilani. Figures such as £20m, £17m and £5m (!) have been bandied about,
but the truth is the total outlay could (potentially) turn out to be much more.
On the 8th August 2009, Roma released official details of Aquilani's transfer fee.
It is widely believed that Liverpool acquired Jan Kromkamp for free as part of a player-exchange
with Josemi. Every official source that has looked into Liverpool's transfer dealings has stated
the same alleged fact. Well, after some research, that myth can now be debunked - Liverpool
actually paid a surprisingly large transfer fee for the ineffective Krompkamp, the amount of which
some may find surprising
According to Liverpool's annual report for 2005, Kromkamp cost the club £4.
With Joleon Lescott gone seeking Arab riches at Manchester City, Everton were left with a sizable
void in defense - until they completed the purchase of Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth.
Distin is our funny feeling Friday selection this week - an underrated, out of form, or unpopular
(in fantasy terms) player who should start producing in the short term.
In the old days, Reid loved doughnuts more than corner kicks
I was leaning all week towards Everton's Steven Pienaar - his goal last night in the Europa League
only further confirming his chance as a Funny Feeling Friday selection - but, having selected
Everton's Rodwell just a few weeks ago - and seeing as Pienaar is already owned by about 7% of
managers - I went with an unlikely selection, the less than 1% owned Andy Reid.

Misfiring striker Andriy Voronin has told of his determination to help Liverpool get this season
back on track. Does he have anything to offer or is he a lost cause?
The Ukraine striker has yet to find the back of the net in eight games this season, and to be fair,
hasn't even looked remotely like scoring.
Should the club sell to those piss take merchants?
Full back Alvaro Arbeloa is set to join Real Madrid this week.
The Spanish international was the only player not used in the Reds' 5-0 win over Singapore, with
Rafa Benitez preferring to use Philipp Degen and midfielder Jay Spearing at right-back.
Real Madrid will make a move for Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour if there is no progress in
talks to sign Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish giants had hoped to reach an agreement by the end of Monday to sign 27-year-old Alonso
after taking part in face-to-face talks with Anfield officials in Barcelona on Sunday.
This is actually one of the better compilation tribute video's I have seen, with a great U2
soundtrack. Last season was arguably the Spaniards best for the club, and this well made five
minute piece adequately displays that. Enjoy!

Couple of things you might have missed, buried in the Guardian 'work' section. I only read
this because I used the section as a mat to catch my hair while giving myself a haircut yesterday
morning.
Haves v have nots in football (while everyone at the top has never been better, those down the
leagues are feeling the pinch) some interesting nuggets on average salaries, etc (not as high as
you'd imagine, given short careers, etc)
Working life - footbal scout
It was around this time that he spotted a bargain buy while compiling one of his dossiers on
Peterborough United.
As our currently absent Miss Spur alluded to some time ago, Niko Kranjcar finally completed his
move to Spurs yesterday. It's a Croatian to replace a Croatian by the looks of things after Luka
Modric picked up a significant injury at the weekend.
After being linked with a number of targets on deadline day, some good and some worryingly bad,
we ended up with just the one signing and probably the best of the bunch at that.
I've refrained from discussing the whole Paul Pogba/Le Havre thing for a few days, because I'm
still not entirely sure what to make of it. My goal is to do a fair amount of research and lay it
out as best I can. For now, I thought you all might enjoy this gem that was uncovered over on
RedCafe.
It seems that Pogba originally played with Roissy-en-Brie before joining U.
This week saw the annual release of the club's financial reports (The full report may be
downloaded here). After much speculation for the last six months, especially from groups with their
own agendas (i.e., Red & White Holdings, the media, and "Arsene Out!" supporters), we can finally
see the true state of the club's finances.
It's been a while folks, so let's catch up on some of the recent goings-on. Obviously, we bought
Gabriel Obertan. The lad is twenty years old and promising but his progress has slowed down
recently and he is no longer as heralded as previously. Saying that, he was great in the Toulon
tournament recently and was only £3M so I think it could be good for us.
Spanish sports daily Marca claims that Real Madrid have decreased their offer for Liverpool
midfielder Xabi Alonso by €3m in the face of a lack of response from the English club.
According to the Sunday edition of the Madrid-based paper, the Merengues' original offer of €27m
expired on July 8, necessitating a new bid.
Liverpool have sent emissaries to Rome in order to complete a £15m swoop for Alberto Aquilani,
according to several Italian newspapers.
The Reds have shown an interest in the Roma midfielder as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso,
who is heading to Real Madrid.
Now it's claimed the club has taken the firm step of sending two emissaries to Italy for crunch
talks.
This source doesn't beat around the bush!
Over the last year, Rafael Benitez has wasted a huge chunk of the club's money on transfers
that, for whatever reason, just didn't work out. With news that Liverpool have reportedly accepted
a £4.3m bid from Napoli for left-back Andrea Dossena, this money-wasting trend seems set to
continue.

Liverpool FC today confirmed they have agreed a deal with AS Roma for the transfer of
Italian international Alberto Aquilani, subject to a medical.
Liverpool concluded their discussions with Roma once the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid was
finally agreed.
He did it!
Liverpool FC confirmed this evening that Alberto Aquilani has successfully completed a
medical and agreed a 5-year contract with the club.
The player will now continue his rehabilitation from an ankle operation under the guidance of
Liverpool's medical team and is expected to be fully fit in approximately 4-8 weeks
time.
Bolton Wanderers are reported to be making a double midfield swoop for Aurélien Capoue and
Miguel Ángel Angulo.
The French 27 year old, Aurélien Capoue, was almost certainly going to Blackburn Rovers, on
loan from Nantes for a season. Now it looks like Bolton's manager, Gary Megson is in direct
competition with former Bolton boss, Sam Allardyce.
Fernando Torres has spoken of his sadness following the death of former teammate Dani Jarque on
Saturday.
The Espanyol captain, who played alongside Torres when Spain won the European U19 Championships in
2002, died of a heart attack following a training session in Italy.
Torres said: "In these hard times I want to express my sincere condolences and I offer all my
support to Dani's family, friends and Espanyol teammates.
This match-up would of course have been a Premier League one last term but both sides were
relegated and looking to bounce back at the first attempt. Newcastle United showed some grit and
determination to fight back from a goal down and are indebted to substitute keeper Tim Krul who
pulled off a string of fine saves.
He looked terrible against Wigan but brilliant against Liverpool.
Go figure.
Is he back to his best?
In a World Cup year you could do much worse than taking a punt on Aston Villa's Ashley Young.
With a price of just 8.3M (down from 8.5M at the start of the season) and favorable fixtures coming
up over the next month, this surely would not be a case of "chasing last week's points.
According to Italian Sports media "La Gazzetta dello Sport" &announced as official here in Spain by
Spanish daily "Marca",REAL MADRID midfielder WESLEY SNEIJDER has understoodthat REAL MADRID will
not count with him for this season,or any other, & has finally accepted to be transferred toINTER

We're heading into a new season of European football, which for most people really only means
Champions League football. The big question ahead of every Champions League season is of course not
who wins it - Stuttgart won't, Wolfsburg won't and most probably Bayern won't either so why bother
- but who earns how much.

No decision will be taken over the future of the indoor York Road Market in Southend, until a
comprehensive consultation has been carried out, longpier.com understands.
The 90-year old indoor market was suddenly closed on October 17, after a structural report on the
building revealed potentially dangerous health and safety issues.
It can't be much fun to be a football fan in the city of Liverpool these days. With Sunday's
Merseyside Derby approaching, the red side has fallen out of the Champions League and is slipping
from its Top Four perch, while the blue side is so decimated by injuries that it's can't even stop
Hull City from scoring.
Despite flirting with Juventus this summer, Liverpool and Italy left-back Andrea Dossena is now
expected to remain in England and has urged Roma midfield star Alberto Aquilani to try his hand in
the Premier League.
Speculation is rife in the peninsula that the Reds have set their sights on Aquilani and are set to
lodge a formal bid to lure ‘Il Principino' to Anfield.
