Rich made a comment in my previous post that got me thinking, "just how hard was our first
half?"
Well, unfortunately, soccer is a bit behind on the sabermetrics such as SOS and RPI and Power
Rankings or other crazy mathematic formulas/systems that determine, well, everything.
What we can figure out is our points haul from one half of the season to the other.
Major League Soccer put two games on the Fourth of July schedule, and both ended in draws. In Salt
Lake, it took six goals to split the points, while in LA the Galaxy vs Sounders game was the 20th
this season to end scoreless. Salt Lake 3 – New England 3 Things started poorly for the home side
on Monday night, with Salt Lake going a man down 3 minutes in when Nat Borchers was.
Denz, of SB Nation's Real Salt Lake blog RSL Soap Box, and I
exchanged three questions a piece ahead of tomorrow's Philadelphia Union-RSL match at PPL
Park.
SK: After starting the season off undefeated, Real Salt Lake has
fallen off a bit, but still sits near the top of the Western Conference with games in hand.
Robin Van Persie put on a finishing clinic at the Emirates yesterday. Fortunately, Wigan
obliged. Although Wigan goalkeeper Al-Habsi was putting on a clinic of his own in reactionary
saves. Arsenal's play was just too good and one goalkeeper alone was never going to save the
day.
I can't tell you how happy I was with yesterday's match.
