I'm not much an activist, demonstrator or crusader, but I may become one today.
The United States' video for their 2018/2022 World Cup Bids has it all. God Morgan Freeman
narrating. Check. A (clearly disowned) Englishman telling FIFA to bring the World Cup to a
country that accepts him. Check. 90 million fans across the country supporting every team
in the world except the US Men's National Team.
The USA World Cup bid has a lot going for it. Stadiums in abundance. Infrastructure up to the task.
The capacity to make enough money that even FIFA should drool at the possibilities. Aside from that
pesky "just hosted in 1994" problem, there are no holes in the American bid. If FIFA chooses to go
in another direction, it won't be because the United States isn't the best place to hold the 2022
World Cup.
For the second time in recent memory, the Americans are attempting to host a World Cup. The Go
USA bid for 2018 and 2022 may have generated less media attention than its European competitors,
but make no mistake: the Americans want it. Bill Clinton, Michael Bloomberg, Henry Kissinger, Brad
Pitt and Morgan Freeman have all lent their names behind the cause.
When doesn't a Morgan Freeman voiceover for a video not work? Seriously. Solid video by the US
World Cup bid folks. (Tip of the hat to SF for getting this up)

CEO Ben Buckley has two plans to "save" the A-League judging by his performances on FOX and SBS
recently.
1. Win the 2022 World Cup Bid.
2. Get an increase TV deal from Fox or whoever in 2013.
Not good enough scream the fans of football in Australia.
What did the Socceroos creditable performances at their third World Cup Finals do for A-League
crowds.
Another week is almost halfway done. Why not kick back and taste some of the finer things that the
Inter-Net-Blogo-Sphere has to offer in the world of beer and soccer!

You see if I was running the A-League over the last three or four years I'd have a budget, going
forward, for that. It's called a plan isn't it. That's what the big businesses do I've heard.
Budget and plan.
And when I got an extra $45 million from the Federal Government for the World Cup bid I'd have a
budget for that.
STARTERSAs was speculated last week, Brian McBride has announced that this will be his last season playing
professional soccer. He will retire at the end of this Chicago Fire season. What an amazing player
he has been for his clubs especially Columbus and Fulham, not to mention all the fantastic games
for the USA.
In a week which featured a battling friendly win for the Socceroos but little other football news
of note, the raging debate over the health of the A-League has dominated the Australian football
media. Everyone has had their say, with Archie Fraser venting his spleen at his former employers,
various bloggers and commentators joining the fray, and finally Frank Lowy choosing to exculpate
himself via Mike Cockerill.
According to the Metro newspaper this is a really funny prank, a fan put an Arsenal compliments
slip in front of 'Arry when he was asleep. Personally I don't find it funny, but each to their
own...
