England, it turns out, isn't the only country in which the bidding process for the World Cup is
starting to look like causing controversy. The process of selecting a dozen or so stadia to host
matches for a World Cup finals shouldn't, theoretically be a controversial one but, in England, the
Football Association managed to alienate a large number of people in selecting Milton Keynes as one
of its provisional venues.

For the second time in just over three months, the international sports community has delivered a
flaming bag of dog poop to the people of Chicago. In October, the Windy City was left at the altar
for the 2016 Olympics, as the IOC chose Rio over Chicago. While the first-round exit was stunning,
the final result was not a shock.

It's the same thing I thought as I drove home from work tonight. (Bolded emphasis is mine):
Quote:
But if today's announcement is set in stone, it leaves one to wonder if by omitting
Chicago, the bid has been weakened. Granted, the U.S. is a country awash with cities and
stadiums more than capable of hosting World Cup matches, and it's hard to imagine the exclusion of
a single city putting the bid in jeopardy.

So we all know that Rio will be hosting the 2016 Olympics... but the man of the
moment has to be Felipe Andreoli, the host of CQC, a popular TV
show in Latin America and parts of Europe (you may remember this Chilean tipo teasing
players at the Bernabeu).

Chicago citizens gathering in downtown where shocked when the cities bid was the first of the
four eliminated
The IOC announced on Friday that the 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Brazil seemed to be a global favorite for hosting the games even though hosting the games in the
South American city will present more obstacles than any other of the four final cities that were
in the running.

While we never really had a chance to land the 2016 Olympics in Chicago (since we just had the 2002
Winter Games and South America has never held one), its astonishing to see how giddy the
conservatives are that the Windy City was the first one voted out.
Whatever happened to that slogan from the McCain campaign; Country First?

My apologies to all of you who found this post looking for something else. Sometimes wordplay is
just impossible to resist, even at the expense of my site's spam blockers.
Anyway, if you're still reading this after realizing this isn't what you thought it was, I was
down at Daley Plaza this morning to see if Chicago would get the 2016 Summer Games.

The Brazilian legend is trying everything he can to get Rio the 2016 Olympics.
How greedy can they be down there right? The 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics?
Pele also had a slip o' the tongue and said 'Michael Jackson' when he meant to say 'Michael
Jordan'.
Ouch.

Many countries hoping to host a World Cup find themselves having to build new stadia in order to
meet the strict FIFA standards. Japan, however, only need build an 80,000-seater stadium in which
to hold the 2018 World Cup Final, and there are plans in place to do so. There is a problem,
however - namely that the stadium will only be built if Tokyo wins its bid to host the 2016
Olympics.

Cristiano Ronaldo and superstar sprinter Usain Bolt united in
a press conference announcing that they both endorsed a 2016 Madrid Olympic bid. The endorsement
comes as a huge bonus for Madrid as Bolt was the star on the track at the Summer Olympic Games in
Beijing.
