The 2010 World Cup qualifying draw is over and the US men now know just what their opposition looks
like as they will need to survive three rounds of play to make it to the finals in South
Africa.
The first round match will take place in June of 2008 as they will face either Barbados or Dominica
(these two play a home-home series earlier in the year to decide who will advance).
The CONCACAF Preliminary Draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup is now complete. The United States will
face the winner of a play-in game between Dominica and Barbados in the first preliminary round of
qualifying. Score predictions? With all do respect to Dominica and Barbados, mine is 37-1, the one
being Gooch giving a penalty after eating [.
Well well well...a couple of a great match-ups looming with massive political undertones in the
world of soccer these days.
First - Turkey vs. Armenia in the same World Cup qualifying group. Now, the possibility of a USA -
Cuba match-up. First up to ensure that match-up happens? Barbados or Dominica.
England was drawn into a Group 6 with Croatia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Andorra. Looks like
it could have been worse for the Three Lions. Several groups look a lot tougher. Take a look:
Group 1: Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Albania, Malta.
Group 2: Greece, Israel, Switzerland, Moldova, Latvia, Luxembourg.
In light of England's catastrophic (judging by some of the press reports--the positive ones)
failure to qualify for Euro 2008, I thought it would be timely to attempt to put my finger to the
pulse of the one-time mother nation. Specifically, I am interested to see how England fans gauge
their country's chances of making it to the next the 2010 World Cup.
With Fabio Capello reportedly set to take over the England manager job vacated by Steve McClaren,
now is as good a time as any to close two concurrent polls Soccer Source has been running for the
past fortnight. The polls asked readers to predict where England will finish in their qualifying
group for the 2010 World Cup and inquired if the Three Lions "will win a World Cup or European
Championship in your lifetime?
