The 2011 Gold Cup gets underway on June 5th in Dallas with Mexico taking on El Salvador and
Costa Rica taking on Cuba. The majority of people have already penciled in the USA and Mexico in
the final however this will be the most talented Gold Cup in history, so an upset is very much a
possibility.
Let me hit you with a fact because everyone loves facts and that's a fact. It's about
football by the way.
Since fifa introduced the 'FIFA World Rankings' ,in 1992, only Spain, in 2010, have won

Now, I can appreciate that Simmons is a new fan to the sport of soccer, but honestly, nothing makes
me roll my eyes more than a) Those who act as if Americans, not English, invented the word "soccer"
for the game b) Those who act as if the sport needs to change to appeal to Americans.
Bob Bradley's first game in charge of the Egyptian national team is a little more than a couple
of weeks away, and his opponent, Brazil, named its squad for the friendly that will take place in
Doha, Qatar, on Nov. 14.
While it's not a complete first-team squad because of domestic-based players staying in Brazil
for the final stretch of the Brazilian championship, the Selecao are re-introducing Real Madrid
midfielder Kaka to the mix for the first time since the 2010 World Cup.
Happy New Year to all our readers and best wishes in 2011!
The past year was a big one for American soccer. A good but not great World Cup run, a
highlight goal from Landon Donovan, and the controversial rehiring of Bob Bradley after the World
Cup. A first MLS Cup win by Colorado, the signings of Rafa Marquez and Thierry Henry by New York,
but maybe more importantly the rise of young players like Tim Ream, Teal Bunbury, Juan Agudelo, and
Andy Najar.
Happy New Year to all!

Choosing the winner of the 2011 Ballon D'Or seemed like a tough decision to make. Three Barcelona
geniuses, all with a chance to be crowned as the best player of the world. Iniesta and Xavi had
just triumphed in the World Cup with Spain, but Messi was part of an amazing season for Barcelona,
scoring 43 goals in 57 matches.

OK Liverpool fans, he has gone now, get over it. Now that he is officially a Chelsea player the
question is can they get the best out of Fernando Torres?
Chelsea fans will scoff at this question. Why wouldn't Chelsea be able to get the best out of
him? He is a top player, they are a top club.

Liverpool will seek assurances from the Football Association that Steven Gerrard's workload will be

My seven-year-old son recently joined a soccer league, a moment of pride for his soccer-playing
father and soccer-fan mother and grandmother. Aside from the obvious cuteness factor of watching
he and his cohorts chasing one another around in soccer socks and scoring the unlikely goal, I have
really enjoyed watching my son learn the meaning of teamwork, and seeing him flourishing in this
environment.
The talks between AC Milan and Manchester City over Carlos Tevez seem to have hit a
standstill.
Manchester City is maintaining its firm stance that it will not loan Tevez anywhere this winter
and is instead only seeking a permanent transfer for the wantaway Argentine striker.
