Now, I can appreciate that Simmons is a new fan to the sport of soccer, but honestly, nothing makes me roll my eyes more than a) Those who act as if Americans, not English, invented the word "soccer" for the game b) Those who act as if the sport needs to change to appeal to Americans.

Bob Bradley's first game in charge of the Egyptian national team is a little more than a couple of weeks away, and his opponent, Brazil, named its squad for the friendly that will take place in Doha, Qatar, on Nov. 14.

While it's not a complete first-team squad because of domestic-based players staying in Brazil for the final stretch of the Brazilian championship, the Selecao are re-introducing Real Madrid midfielder Kaka to the mix for the first time since the 2010 World Cup.

My seven-year-old son recently joined a soccer league, a moment of pride for his soccer-playing father and soccer-fan mother and grandmother.
