One of the most curious, and apparently guilt-induced, posts of the new year:
But in terms of the big picture of US soccer and racialized discourse, please think
about what you say and why you say it. I am not saying we cannot fawn over a speedy Davies run,
just fawn for the right reasons.
Terrible news broke today that the Togo team bus was attacked on its way to the Africa Cup of
Nations in Angola, with machine gun fire leaving the driver dead and several players hurt.
The incident has many questioning the safety of players for the World Cup in South Africa.
South African internationals Teko Modise and Siphiwe Tshabalala are targets of teams in
Spain and Holland via the players' manager Jazzman Mahlakgane who told KickOff.com
that paperwork is only standing in the way of the duo's European dreams.

Honduras 3, U.S. 1. To quote the great philosopher Wayne Campbell, "That blew goats." (Though,
you'll see in a see paragraphs there is actually some good news to come from this match.)As I
"tweeted" last night, I watched the game at a friend's house who doesn't get Fox Soccer, so it was
the Telefutra feed.
The USSF announced earlier this week that tickets are available for fans who are interested in
going to South Africa to see the matches. The tickets will be distributed via an application
process. You can read more about it by clicking here.
Chelsea's Florent Malouda wants first-team minutes as he is trying to solidify a roster spot
on the French national team as the 2010 World Cup approaches.
Speaking with L'Equipe, Malouda said: "Carlo Ancelotti's tactical system is physically very
demanding. Recently we showed less intensity, the game was less fluid.
Could the French international be off to the San Siro after the 2010 World Cup?
Reports out of Italy suggest the rumour has merit.
If you're not in the starting eleven this time you ain't going to the World Cup are you?
Barring injury. Let's see who starts and who doesn't.
If you're not in surely you don't need a loan spell either. Go the beach!
According to Planet Benfica's twitter feed: "West Ham and Bolton are both chasing Benfica striker
Nuno Gomes, who is desperate for first-team football to boost his World Cup hopes."

It's fairly rare that the London Review of Books features an article on football, but it's perhaps
unsurprising that the World Cup in South Africa has prompted one,

In shocking breaking news, the Togolese Football Team's bus has been attacked by machine gun fire
while crossing the Congolese border. Two players have been injured by the gunfire and the driver

Don't get me wrong, the book Soccernomics by Simon Kuper and Stean Szymanski is a quick and
entertaining read and teaches a few solid lessons. It provides some pretty compelling insight into
England's woes in particular and manages to shatter a few myths about the business of soccer. But
the book falls short of its ultimate goal, to uncover new, "data-driven" truths that will
revolutionize the way the sport is coached, scouted and managed.

In a FIFA sanctioned event of great importance to the football world, the African Cup of
Nations, the Togolese team is attacked by a bunch of machine gun wielding whackos. Three people
are killed and two players are shot and in serious condition. The rest of the players feel
fortunate to have escaped with their lives.
Well after yesterday's dramatic draw, let's hope today's matches (Malawi v Algeria and Côte
d'Ivoire v Burkina Faso) don't fail to live up to the strong start of the tournament.
Malawi boast Chiukepo Msowoya who lead the Flames with six goals from the qualification
rounds. 27-year-old Esau Kanyenda also has finishing ability.
I was going to do regular updates on the three SPL players at the Africa Cup of Nations. Sadly the
progress of Sol Bamba, Madjihd Bougherra and Landry N'Guemo doesn't seem that important in the
shadow of the attack on the Togo team bus.I must admit I wasn't really able to follow the story all
that closely over the weekend so the complexities of what happened and why are a bit beyond my ken

The USA will face Algeria on June 23rd, in the final game of Group C play. This last game could be
crucial for both teams as one or both may face elimination from the Cup. Algeria is busy in group
play of the African nations cup and blew its first game 3 nil, with some shoddy goalkeeping.
Several vital matches today, but let's focus in on Chelsea v Sunderland and Tottenham v Hull
City.
Here are mini previews w/predictions -- Tottenham face off against Tigers as Hull comes to White

The vuvuzela is making a noise again in South Africa – well people are making a noise about
the vuvuzela, notably the Shembe's or The Nazareth Baptist Church in KwaZulu-Natal.
Never a quite instrument, the vuvuzela or stadium horn has elicited a lot of noise, mostly from
European journalists during and after the Confederations Cup.
Welcome to the first post in this here slice of the Inter-nets of 2010 yapping about the U.S.
National Team. This post was going to be titled, "State by State" but that was already taken by a
1990s sketch comedy troupe, which had a shot on MTV with crummy DVDs because they couldn't get the
musical clearances.
Between Stuart Holden hanging around in England waiting to sign for Bolton, Landon Donovan's loan
to Everton, Ricardo Clark going on loan to Eintract Frankfurt, there's been a disturbance in the
soccer blogosphere. It goes something along the lines of "MLS is losing it's best playerz! Teh CBA
is the reason!
As I'm sure many of you know, yesterday's post was a bit controversial. I attempted to take a
creative look at the CBA and the writing came across a bit poor to some of you -- while others
seemed to like it.
While I'm happy that the piece provoked such strong reactions from some of you, I wanted to say
that I didn't write the piece simply to get people fired up.

Nice? I like it. Like the main one better though!
