The FIFA U-20 World Cup wrapped up on Friday, October 16, 2009 with the championship and 3rd
place matches. In the 3rd place match, Hungary faced Costa Rica while Ghana v Brazil was the final.

The match was dominated by Brazil for most of it but they failed to find the back of the
net.
I sent out a tweet about the U-20 World Cup early last week, and had a post in the works, but I
never got around to finishing it until now. The group stage of the competition is over and the bare
facts tell the story: none of the CONCACAF qualifiers finished in the top two of their respective
groups, two finished in third place, and other other two bottom of their group.
CONCACAF's U-20 qualifying tournament for the World Cup in Egypt concluded today. With four
qualifying slots on offer, the real action was in the group stages. The semifinals and final were
only for bragging rights, so here are the top four teams: Costa Rica USA Honduras Trinidad Tobago
So the USA qualify for yet another U-20 World Cup (twelve in all), but have yet to win the CONCACAF
U-20 title.
Costa Rica produced the biggest result of the U-20 World Cup by knocking out the host Egyptians 2-0
in Cairo. Captain José Mena led from the front with a strong header from a set-piece twenty
minutes in, and then, after soaking up Egyptian pressure over the second half, Marco Ureña
converted Costa Rica's second on a counterattack in the closing minutes.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup had its semifinals on Tuesday as Brazil faced Costa Rica and Ghana
played Hungary. While not as prestigious as the main World Cup, the U-20 is an indicator of a
nation's strength in the upcoming years. The third place and championship match will be played on
Friday, October 16, 2009.
The FIFA 2009 U-20 World Cup is now in the quarterfinal stage as the last round of 16 matches
finished up on Wednesday. These were Brazil v Uruguay, Germany v Nigeria, and Venezeula v United
