After a day of the UEFA Champions League, it's time for an evening of the CONCACAF Champions
League. Cruz Azul and UNAM meet to decide the first finalist for CONCACAF's top club competition.
The match starts at 1900 Arizona time (GMT - 7). Cruz Azul - UNAM (0-1 agg) 1900 Commentary after
the jump. 1833: Back here at around five minutes to the hour.
I wasn't planning on blogging it, but the match has become interesting in the last few minutes. Two
goals in two minutes between Pachuca and Comunicaciones has made the match 1-1 and 2-2 on
aggregate. So if there is no additional scoring in the next 10-12 minutes, the tie will go to extra
time...but if the Guatemalans can score another goal before the end of regulation time, they would
go through on away goals!
With one matchday remaining in the Champions League group stage, the participants' list for the
knockout stage is becoming set. Real Salt Lake and Cruz Azul will advance from Group A, Santos and
Columbus look good to advance from Group B, and Monterrey and Toluca are likely to advance from
Groups C and D, respectively.
Below are collated results for the knockout phase of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League. This
post will be bumped to the top on matchdays until the conclusion of the competition. The current
phase is highlighted in red bold lettering. Ties are a two-match, home-and-away series, higher
aggregate score wins, and away goals count.
Welcome to the final match of the quarterfinal round of the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League.
Marathón are all that stands in the way of an all-Mexican final four, but they come into the
second leg in the best position having won 2-0 last week. UNAM 2-0 Marathón 25' (2-2 aggregate)
Commentary after the jump.
Tomorrow the semifinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League begins, and the result will only be
of interest to Mexican football supporters: first, Toluca face Pachuca on Tuesday, and UNAM meet
Cruz Azul on Wednesday. If league form has any bearing on the outcome of the semifinals, both ties
would be toss-ups.
Time for the second semifinal of the Champions League -- Pumas against the Cementeros. It looks
like the better of the two ties, so I'm going to liveblog this one. The match just started, so here
we go: UNAM 1-0 Cruz Azul 30' Commentary after the jump. 1934: Well the match needed a goal, and it
should open up now.
