Here's my wish list for the upcoming season:
1. Joe Cannon in a Galaxy uniform. I didn't realize how important this was to
me until the trade rumors started flying. I think the defense can survive without significant
expenditures, but only if Cannon is in goal.
2.
...and then the female part of the chorus would sing "La Brujita" as a coutnerpoint...
...and if we could get him to do that, would it still be overrated kitsch? (Yes.)
Regardless, the first major US media report that Veron has been signed is out from Sports
Illustrated:
Juan Sebastian Veron and D.
I'd like to take this moment to wrap up the entire Veron story. The DCenters was pretty neutral
on the signing of Juan Sebastian Veron, and to the extent that we're disappointed he's not signing
it's because it was clear that this was the guy the Front Office wanted. We never believed, and I'm
sure you never believed, that Veron was the magic bullet to take us to the next level.
For the second season in a row, the Kansas City Wizards will be opening against DC United. This
time, though, the game will be in Kansas City. The game will be Saturday, March 29th at 7 pm
central time at Community America Ballpark. This could also be the leagues first look at Juan
Sebastián Verón, who looks like he could be signing with DC United this off season.
Time to mark your calendars. According to Steven Goff of SoccerInsider, the Galaxy's first home
game will be April 3 against the new Earthquakes. And of course it will be televised on ESPN2.
Was there ever any doubt?
The first game of the season will be the previous weekend at Colorado.
UNITED OPEN AGAINST WIZ: Goff has the scoop yesterday, I think, but it hits the main pages of
the Post today. United open on the road March 29 against Kansas City, and then the home opener is
against Toronto. No, it is not too early to begin speculating about how many points United should
get out of those games.
