Mexico 5-1 Haiti
Even with a win, Mexico fails to make it out of their group. In a match where they played up a man
for an hour, had a penalty kick (which was stopped) and had at least three open shots on goal,
there is no reason for Mexico to have failed to get the needed six goals, but they did.
The 2008 Olympics will end on Sunday 24th August (with the 08 Olympic football final on Saturday)
and there's been lots to talk about this time around, from the politics to the environment to the
questions about age to the outstanding performances and the odd funny moments. What will you
remember most about Beijing 2008?
US 3-0 Canada
This was the game US fans had been waiting for. Finally the play on the field reflected the talent
in the roster as Canada was no match for the U23 US men. And although Freddy Adu will deservingly
get the headlines, that second goal was pure art, but he was far from alone out there.
The 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China are but a few weeks away.
The men's Olympic Football Tournament looks like it will be a hotly contested competition, with
countries like Argentina, Holland and the United States seeking Olympic gold.
Africa will be well represented with three formidable squads in the 16-team tournament for the gold
medal.
Nigeria squares off against Argentina in Saturday's Olympic gold medal final and while the game is
a repeat of the 1996 gold medal match that Nigeria won 3-2, can the Super Eagles' offense deal with
Lionel Messi and the Albicelestes this time around?
Argentina are favored after their 3-0 destruction of Brazil in the semi-finals.
Some of you have asked so I thought I would pass along the times and dates of when the US Men's and
Women's teams play in the Summer Olympics, which kicks off this week. Now the opening ceremonies
are Friday but the games actually kickoff Wednesday with Women's soccer (or football). The Men's
soccer starts [.
Peter Nowak has released his 18 man roster for Beijing and there are not a lot of surprises. As
expected, Nowak went with Bad Guzan in goal and McBride up top. Both will give the team much needed
depth in their positions with McBride providing a little bit more then Guzan.
The overage selection that could benefit the most from this experience is New England's Michael
Parkhurst.
US 1-0 Honduras
First the good news, the US U23 men were able to bounce back from a dreadful opening match to win
their group. In the process players such as Holden, Edu, Kljestan, Orozco, McCarty stood up and
showed what they have in them. Although they did not dominate their final two matches, they did
control them.

US vs. Honduras
7pm ET/4pm PT
TV: Fox Soccer Channel
With Panama dispatching Cuba 4-1, the US is assured of advancing to the knockout round, now the
question is what spot will they take? If they can pull of a win against a decent Honduras side,
they will take first. Anything less and they stay in the second spot.
There is no reporter who knows Landon Donovan better than Paul Oberjuerge. Paul, ex-sports editor
and sports columnist of the San Bernardino Sun, covered Landon well before anyone else did, back
when Landon was attending high school in Redlands. He did well to cover the local prodigy who went
on to become the best American soccer player ever and continues to have a great relationship with
Landon.
©Mark Dadswell/Getty Images How does this happen? How did a team as lethargic as Nigeria make
it to the final? I mean from keeper to front line I'd say they are simply average. The Japanese had
just as good of a shot to make it to the final. And I'll be honest, I only saw the [...]
Concacaf has two tickets to Beijing for the Olympics this August and eight nations want them. To
get there, teams will need to take one of the top two spots in their group and then make it past
the semifinals. Both teams in the final on March 20th will represent the region in China.
The Concacaf tournament is taking place in America this time around with games in Tampa, LA and
Nashville (Tickets Tampa, LA).
While we lament the loss of the Nigerian Super Falcons in the Women's Olympic football tournament,
praise must be heaped on the African men, who all swept into the quarterfinals of the men's Olympic
tournament.
One thing we know for sure is that Africa will be represented in the semi-finals, as Nigeria take
on Ivory Coast in the last eight.
Forty-four US players got called into camp yesterday as the US MNT gets ready for their 'friendly'
against Mexico on 6 Feb and the U-23s get ready for Olympic Qualification. Both camps are stocked
full with MLS players (35 in total).
Here is Bob Bradley's list for the Mexico match:
GK (4) – Steve Cronin (LA Galaxy), Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Will Hesmer (Columbus Crew), Zach

Some FC Dallas news for you all this afternoon, probably something you may have heard by now as it
was emailed to me earlier in the day by US Soccer. FC Dallas midfielder Dax McCarty has been added
to the Olympic roster for next month's Olympics in China. He replaces injured Real Salt Lake
midfielder Nathan [.
The men's Olympic football tournament will be one of the most highly anticipated sporting events of
the upcoming 2008 Beijing Games.
This year's tournament features three teams from Africa, with Cameroon, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast
sending over their young, developing talent in hopes of Olympic glory.
We had an idea this would happen, but we're sad nevertheless.
The Nigeria women's football team, the Super Falcons, were beaten 3-1 by Brazil on Tuesday at the
Workers' Stadium in Beijing in their final group game at the Olympics.
The result left the Nigerian women bottom of the group with three defeats from three matches,
and eliminated from the tournament.
Congratulations to US women's national team captain Kristine Lilly who is pregnant with her first
child. Now the down side of this news, she will miss the Olympics and all of 2008.
Lilly is an excellent player and has been the key to so much of what the US women have done, but at
age 36, chances are she has played her final competitive match for the red, white and blue.
US - Panama
8pm ET
TV - Fox Soccer Channel
The US U-23s return to the pitch tonight looking to improve on their poor form from Tuesday.
Although the team does not have to win to make it into the next round, anything short of a full
three points will make it very difficult to sneak by.
I didn't get a chance to watch the match. No FSC at work and every TV was being utilized for March
Madness anyway. But Freddy Adu had another great night and the U.S. easily advanced to this
summer's Olympics with...
Finally after a couple months of speculating who would get the call for the 2008 Olympics, the
U.S.S.F. handed down the calls ups and list of alternate players. GOALKEEPERS (2): Brad Guzan
(Chivas USA), Chris Seitz (Real Salt Lake) DEFENDERS (5): Patrick Ianni (Houston Dynamo), Michael
Orozco (San Luis), Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution), Nathan Sturgis (Real [.
Aston VIlla keeper Brad Guzan, Villarreal's Jozy Alitore and Brian McBride are the biggest names to
be picked for the U.S. Olympic team heading to Beijing next month. The 18-man roster was selected
today by US Soccer. McBride is the...
So we didn't make it in the Olympics. It's almost like we hit the peak of the mountain right when
we got to China. We won the first match, drew the second match (which felt like a loss) and then
fell today in the final match of the group phase. It was tough to watch really, [...]
Manchester City summer signing Jô notched a brace for his national side as
Brazil defeated Belgium to capture the men's Bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics. He appears likely
to compete in City's third fixture of the season. The former CSKA Moscow striker could be back for
the UEFA Cup match against FC Midtjylland next Thursday.
Peter Nowak has selected the roster that he thinks will return the US men to the Olympic games.
After an impressive showing in 2000, the U-23s won their qualifying group in 2004 but lost to
Mexico in the semifinals and missed a trip to Athens.
The US should have a good chance of taking their group again this time around, however the question
is can Mexico do the same or will they finish in second and force another semifinal showdown?
US 1-1 Cuba
The US U-23 men did not get their tournament off to a good start last night as they fluttered their
way to a 1-1 tie with Cuba. Although they opened up the match with a very impressive first
15-minutes, the next hour saw the team combine poor passing with lack of aggression and sub-par
play in the midfield.
Much of the world played World Cup qualifying last night.
Others played friendlies in preparation for the 2010 World Cup.
Africa was no exception as the continent prepares itself for the much-anticipated 2008 Beijing
Olympics and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
First up, African champions Egypt were beaten 2-0 by the world's top ranked side, Argentina.

I can't say I'm a big fan of China and it's human rights abuse record, but politics aside, the
highly charged Olympic Games this summer will be a chance for a young U.S. team to test itself
against the future...
Brasilian Ronaldinho stated that he is interested in competing at the 2008 Olympics. The
28-year-old can feature in Beijing as one of Brazil's three allowed over-23 players. After watching
Brasil come to a goalless draw against Argentina for 2010 World Cup qualifyin, Ronaldinho told the
press that he was absolutely sure he .

We've done a few Olympic previews already: one yesterday and one about a week ago.
But with the Beijing Games mere hours away, I'd be remiss not to direct your attention to BBC
Sport's Durosimi Thomas and his look at the African sides involved in the men's tournament.
General consensus favors a good showing by the African nations involved.
I don't know about you all but I love the Olympics. I'm all about every event that I can get my
hands on from handball to rowing. Are you all into these games as much as I am? If so what sport
(beside soccer of course) are you in to?
Andrew: It was a satisfactory win for the US this morning against Japan. In the early stages of the
game, our boys seemed to be stringing together some good combinations from the midfield to the
forwards through Adu and McBride. My biggest gripe with this game was our outside backs, or well
just one in particular; [.
In the last 24-hours, seven Cuban U-23 players have defected. The seven include goalkeeper Jose
Manuel Miranda, defenders Erlys Garcia Baro, Yendry Diaz, Eder Roldan and Yenier Bermudez and
midfielders Yordany Alvarez and Loanni Prieto.
Cuba only brought 18 players with them to the tournament so all they have left is 11.
Canada just washed the pitch with Guatemala's B-team 5-0, meaning the Maple Leafs sit in second
with four points and a +4 goal difference. Mexico and Haiti will kick off in 30-minutes with Mexico
needing a victory by at least 5 goals to advance out of their group. For Haiti, all they need is a
tie to move forward.
The Phillies and Chase Utley pulled out of their slump last night with a 4-0 win over the Oakland
A's. Kyle Kendrick pitched 8 strong innings and Utley went 4 for 5 after a long drought. Let's hope
the Phillies continue their winning ways now. In the soccer world, US Soccer has posted an

Okay - it's up! Here's the 18-woman USWNT Roster for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. No big
surprises, as far as I can tell. Aly Wagner played herself back into the mix after a long,
injury-ridden hiatus - and it would be awesome to see her fulfill her potential on the Olympic
