The sight of Steven Gerrard limping off the Goodison turf on Wednesday night was
the last thing Reds fans wanted to see. Despite having a squad littered with international stars
the skipper remains their inspiration, and like it or not, they are not the same side without him.
In the latest round of statistics to dazzle the mind, we look at the Premiership team's which have
hit the net most consistently this season - does a flurry of goals courtesy of slick offensive
strikers result in a superior league position? Be the judge for yourself!
The expected consensus is that a potent strikeforce aided by a willing midfielder or two will
more often than not help teams leapfrog to the higher reaches of the table, but as to every trend
there is courtesy of the exception.
For 127 years, the Blues and Reds have battled on the pitches in and around Manchester. Players
hold the derby in such a high regard perhaps best noted by Andy Cole after he joined City in 2005.
"It is an honour to have played for both Manchester Clubs," he said.
Two interesting facts I found recently regarding the Manchester Derby --
1.
EPL side Arsenal isn't the only British outfit keen to raid Zenit Saint Petersburg. Bolton
Wanderers' manager Gary Megson signed defender Sebastien
Puygrenier from Zenit earlier this month. And the defender played his first match for the
club against Manchester United on Saturday.

"We will get better, but we are still a team with obvious frailties and we will work to
address them when the transfer window opens again. What we need to have is that consistent level of
performance and that resoluteness to be able to see games out and take something positive from
every game we play.
Manchester City easily dispatched of Blackburn Rovers thanks to the South American trio of Felipe
Caicedo, Robinho and Elano at Eastlands.
The victory, 12th now at the club's home pitch, comes at a critical time as City makes a final push
to qualify for European action next season.
Their progress may have gone unnoticed amongst the flashy corporate driven Premier League but
their achievements over the past few years perhaps should be recognised as they sit alongside those
of Manchester United when put into context.
Nine years ago this month Wimbledon lost to Southampton at the Dell, a result which saw them
relegated from the Premier League after 13 years.
GOAL: 17th minute score from SWP for City!
Former Manchester City manager Sven Goran-Eriksson looks ready to return to the
Premiership provided Portsmouth can agree to terms with the Swede's current employers, El Tri.

On Wednesday 22nd April 2009, Manchester United moved one step closer to
protecting their control of the English Premiership with a home victory over
Portsmouth while Barcelona's spectacular triumph over
Sevilla allowed them to rise six points ahead of Real Madrid in the race for the
Spanish Primera Division title.
It is official:
Manchester United -- three Premiership titles in a row.
Inter Milan -- four Serie A titles in a row.
Of interest, Inter boss Jose Mourinho now has five title in the last seven years from three
different countries having also claimed the Portuguese crown with Porto in 2003 and 2004 and the
Premiership title in 2005 and 2006 with Chelsea.

Is the the end of his City career?
The match was pushed up this weekend and will be the only Premiership clash as most EPL squads are
competing in the FA Cup. Pompey are without a manger after Tony Adams was sacked
and caretaker Paul Hart will be in control of the side. Mexican national coach
Sven-Goren Eriksson has been linked with Portsmouth, but I see him remaining with
El Tri at least through the upcoming Hexagonal contest.
Portsmouth faced the youngest ever side to feature in an English Premier League match this weekend
as the club fell to Arsenal 3-0. At the heart of the Gunners attack was Carlos Vela; he tormented
Pompey all match with his pace and creativity finally being rewarded with a second-half goal. It
was Vela's first league goal.

The Mark Hughes Letdown – Let's be honest City fans, we expected more. With massive cash
reserves, academy graduates maturing (see Ireland), and Brazilian flair added to the ranks this
season, Europe (Europa League) should already be sealed.
Mark Hughes recently noted that he feels the failure to make next season's Europa League will not
effect City's summer transfer season.
Obtained from the official website from Manchester City FC, chairman Khaldoon Al
Mubarak has reiterated to the fans that Mark Hughes' position as manager of the club is safe, and
he has also spoken of the importance of stability, the expectations for the 2009/10
Premiership season and the academy.
Kevin Davies, an industrious striker, really carried his club like no other player in the
Premiership during the 2008-09 campaign. He started 37 league matches, came on as substitute in
another and netted 12 goals for Bolton. He also committed a remarkable 110 fouls yet only received
4 yellow cards. Efficient in the form of 27.
