For most Major League Soccer fans who have followed the closely for the past few years, the
following sentence may not make much sense, and may leave many wondering if April Fool's came
early this year, only it has not.
Herculez Gomez cannot stop scoring goals.
The former Kansas City Wizards forward/midfielder has scored six goals in his past seven matches
for Mexican first division side Puebla since joining the club on a free transfer in January.
Chivas USA has acquired the services of Venezuelan international striker Giancarlo Maldonado,
according to reports coming out of South America this afternoon.
A product of the River Plate youth system, Maldonado has played for Mexican side Atlante since
2007, scoring 30 goals in 61 appearances.
The AP reported on the talks between Juergen Klinsmann and US soccer back in 2006, and outlines why
Klinsmann did not take the position as head coach of the US team.
The former German national team coach, who will be an ESPN analyst for this year's tournaments,
visited the network's campus for the first time Tuesday and spoke in some detail about his decision
to end talks with the U.
It's no secret that the USMNT is having some issues finding a suitable partner for Jozy Altidore at
the forward position as the 2010 World Cup draws ever closer, but an unexpected challenger has
managed to play his way into the picture over the past three months: Herculez Gomez. Despite every
corner of the US player pool being explored during the current cycle, Gomez has been unable to get
a second look from head coach Bob Bradley (his first coming as part of the squad for the 2007 Copa
America tournament).
There have been abundant rumors of international stars looking to play in MLS in the near future,
including Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, and Ze Roberto, among others. But now you can add a new name
to the list: Juventus midfielder Diego. The Brazilian star spoke out in an interview on Thursday
about the growing American league and his desire to play in the United States one day.
Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht has signed U.S. international midfielder and Chivas USA co-captain
Sacha Kljestan to a 4-year contract, the Belgian side is reporting on their official website this
morning. A transfer fee was paid by the club to Major League Soccer in order to sign the player,
but terms of that transaction were not revealed, per league and team policy.
While fans around the league await word on the identity of the Chicago Fire's Designated Player -
to be announced Saturday evening - it looks as if another MLS club has locked up a DP of their own.
In a statement released by Chivas de Guadalajara earlier today, the Mexican club announced the
transfer of striker Omar Bravo to the Kansas City Wizards.
There isn't a more in-form American striker in the world right now than Herculez Gomez,
something that hasn't gone unnoticed by U.S. national team head coach Bob Bradley.
Gomez told his club's website that he has had contact with Bradley during his recent
goal-scoring binge (seven goals in 12 matches), and he acknowledged that he just keep scoring and
playing more to have any realistic chance of playing in this summer's World Cup.

His first season in Mexico's Primera Division with Puebla FC went well enough to get his foot in
the door with Bob Bradley and the U.S. Men's National Team, but when he returns to Mexico following
the 2010 World Cup, Herculez Gomez will be suiting up for a different team. The 28-year-old forward
has been snatched up Pachuca, who announced the signing of the U.
Looking to bolster their offense for the second half of the MLS season, Chivas USA on Thursday
announced the signing of Venezuelan international forward Giancarlo Maldonado. Per team and league
policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. He will be available to make his MLS debut after
the transfer window opens on July 15th, pending the receipt of his International Transfer
Certificate.

Over two years have passed since Fire technical director Frank Klopas and managing director
Javier Leon met Nery Castillo for coffee while on a scouting trip in England.
At that point, Castilo was on loan to Manchester City and in stellar form after leading Mexico to a
third-place finish in the 2007 Copa America.

Well that was anti-climactic. Today US Soccer announced Bob Bradley's contract has been extended
four more years. Meaning, we've got him through the next World Cup. Huzzah. That's right, we've got
four more years of sideline scowls and the most magnificent sweatpants collection in FIFA. I
definitely agree some of his selections have been a bit suspect,
and perhaps he has a slight problem being the mastermind behind a few embarrassing terrible
tactical blunders
and maybe he hasn't quite figured out it doesn't necessarily make the USA look so good to play
the newbies in games against the really good national teams
(Insert picture of the 2007 Copa America roster here or whoever the
crap those guys were playing against Brazil earlier this month)
But hey no matter what crazy dumb-ass thing our Bob has done over the past four years, it's
kinda moot because we've got him for another four so that's four more years to make stupid mistakes
and drive the USA to another World Cup of utter mediocrity OR that's four years ahead for us with
an experienced leader who has worked the college and professional systems in this country so that
should count for something, you know, for picking out budding talent.

'Hugol' Sanchez's goal scoring record in Spain stands up to very close scrutiny. 234 goals in
347 appearances makes him the second highest goal scorer in La Liga history. Post war, only Alfredo
di Stefano has a better goals to game ratio in the Spanish top flight. 29 goals in 58 appearances
for Mexico cements his standing as one the greatest goalscorers of his, or any era.
