I'd say if we were to rank the occasions where it's perfectly acceptable to get belligerently
drunk, the ceremony just after you've won the Champions League final is somewhere around the Top 5.
(We must pray for the sake of the London police that this Tottenham squad never wins the
continent's title.

Spain hadn't lost in 35 games, and had only tasted victory for 15 straight matches. Considered
the unquestioned best team in the world, the Spanish national team was supposed to steamroll a
U.
Liverpool see off defending champions Manchester United 2-0 in Anfield to snap a 4 matches losing
streak. The men from Anfield have not lost four successive games since 1987. Fernando Torres was on
hand to put away an astute pass by Yossi Benayoun on the 65th minute. Substitute David Ngog sealed
the crucial 2-0 victory for under-pressure Benitez with an injury time goal.
They#8217;re brilliant. Everybody knows it. You know, I know it, they know it. As far as slick,
ball on the floor footballing goes, they have no equal - even with their recent, now long
forgotten, hiccup. On their day, Barcelona are simply above and beyond. After soundly thumping Lyon
to announce they#8217;d awoken, they displayed [.
So United took on Valencia in a match that I (for some reason) thought was supposed to be the
Testimonial for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Perhaps not? Regardless, a rather young United side managed
to knock two past their Spanish counterparts and managed to look rather convincing in the
process.
Second half goals from Wayne Rooney and Tom Cleverley (both assisted by a once again impressive
Antonio Valencia) gave United the victory, and made me even more excited about this Sunday's
Charity Shield match against Chelsea.

Jermaine Pennant and Younes Kaboul could be recalled to Portsmouth's starting line-up
but Niko Kranjcar has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
Manchester United had knocked Tottenham out in the Carling Cup quarter finals. Darren Gibson had
once again proved his worth when being called upon.SCROLL FURTHER DOWN FOR MORE FOOTBALL ACTION
(CARL DE SOUZA/AFP/Getty Images) I know we've done our fair share of lauding Barcelona on The
Offside recently, and I know that has annoyed a couple of people. So if anyone doesn't want to read
any more of the same I recommend clicking away now. As you should know by now (if not then where
have you [.
A pretty poor end to our very good pre-season, nobody played to their potential yesterday but
this is only a pre-season game and things still look very promising for the campaign ahead.Ars
European champions Barcelona had an extra special day yesterday. Not only did they kick off the La
Liga season at the Camp Nou with a 3-0 win over Sporting Gijon, but they signed defensive superstud
Dmytro Chygrynskiy from Shakhtar for a cool €25m to pair with Puyol for the hairiest defensive
partnership ever.
Arsenal had been dominant on both ends of the pitch. Despite leaving it till very late to score,
this is arguably their best display this season.
You have to give Paul Scholes credit. He may have an affinity for the handball these days, but he
doesn#8217;t disguise it one bit. None of this cheeky shoulder shift or behind-the-back nonsense.
Paul#8217;s hands are out and they#8217;re proud. Whether it#8217;s purposefully punching in a goal
like a world class water polo player or [.
Everyone expected Ronaldo - né The Fat One - to flash his superior technique and nose for goal
back in Brazil. The legs may go, but class remains. This weekend Ronaldo scored a goal and forced a
mess in the announcer's pants. No surprise there. But it wasn't the poacher's goal or cleaning up a

Extra special occasions require extra special motivation, so Pep had a motivational montage
doctored up to show the Barca lads before they took on Manchester United at the Stadio Olimpico.
Somebody at one of the various Spanish papers got ahold of the video, and it's now showing
exclusively at YouTube.

Santino Quaranta fought back tears as the national anthem played at RFK Stadium on Wednesday
night. He was overcome with emotion at the chance he had worked so hard to get, the place on the
U.
A good game yet again with a side with some young and experienced players. Diaby finished well
for his 2 goals and Gallas is on a lucky streak of scoring without really meaning it! Keep it up,
that's all I'm gonna say!
SCOTLAND'S team which is missing 9 first team regulars was no match for Japan yesterday at Nissan
Stadium in Yokohama. Christophe Berra's own goal 8 minutes from time and Honda's goal in the 89th
minute sealed Japan's victory.
Manchester United dominated the game throughout to beat Blackburn 2-0 at Old Trafford. The Red
Devils got their goals from Berbatov and Rooney.
So another decent performance sees United secure all three points at Old Trafford. Overall, I
was pleased with the result, but still found a few things troubling. The inability of our three
main strikers to score consistently when given the opportunity is slightly worrying, but Obertan's
EPL debut coupled with Berba's world class finish left me as happy as could be.
Alan Shearer, who had his first game today as the new manager for Newcastle, failed to impress as
Chelsea stole the show in a 2-0 victory. With just seven matches remaining, Newcastle are in the
bottom three right now and haven't celebrated an at home victory in nearly four months. Truly
awful. Chelsea player, Frank Lampard, [.
We are now at the business end of the season where the real money is earned, as managers and
players are assessed by the progress they have made, as the climax to the season is swiftly
approaching. Eventually, we will learn as to who goes to Europe, the UEFA Cup, and who is flushed
down to the second tier.
[101 Great Goals] The decision making abilities of Mad Jens took a predictable hit this weekend, as
the older he gets the crazier his adventures. On the pitch against Cologne it was a typical
adventure of Lehmann-esque proportions, as evidenced above. Jens, using his everyday skills of
logic, decided bolting 40 yards from his net [.
My Verdict
A solid game but we need to practice finishing at training within the week. Some really was poor
an I expect the likes of Arshavin, Rosicky and Fabregas top put al those away versus better teams;
in the premier league you won't get 24 chances in a game, that's for sure.
Lee Barnard scored twice as Southend United halted their losing streak to beat Stockport at Edgeley
Park.
In a game played in high winds and on a bobbly pitch, both sides failed to assert their authority
in the first half. Franck Moussa had a couple of chances but was thwarted on each occasion.
Burnley's veteran defensive midfielder ,Graham Alexander, scored twice to help Burnley beat Hull
2-0.
There was no happy reunion for Spurs old boy Darren Bent. Sunderland were beaten 2-0 at the White
Harte Lane.

Bobby Zamora and Diomansy Kamara contributed a goal each to hand Hull City another defeat. In
pinball style! The final score was a 2-0 Fulham win.

A goal from David Dunn and an own goal by Ricketts were enough to see Blackburn past a Bolton side
that had poor form recently.
Arsene Wenger's young guns beat Standard Liege 2-0 in Emirates stadium.
