On Sunday, January 22, 2012, Manchester United will take the pitch against Arsenal at the
Emirates. Cognizant of the simple fact that Manchester United handed Arsenal an 8-2 loss that is
counted amongst the very worst in a period of 100 years, no one is giving much reason to believe
that the Gunners have a chance against the Red Devils.
I love to see the MLS passion pouring in from these new ports of call. Devoted fans from
Toronto, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle and, going a little further back, Salt Lake City, have done
wonders to energize Major League Soccer, now going into its 17th season.
And plenty of new fans from older markets are adding more air to the MLS baloon, too.
The legend of Pep Guardiola continues as he was named the best manager of 2011, ahead of José
Mourinho (Real Madrid), last year's winner, and Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United).
Guardiola, who was recently named the world's best manager by the International Federation of
Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), picks up yet another acknowledgement to his brilliant
career.

An anaemic economy, nostalgic fans and onerous planning laws are all proving tough obstacles for
soccer clubs hoping to increase income with new state-of-the-art stadiums. A trio of London-based
Premier League clubs formed more than 100 years ago - Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Queens Park
Rangers - are among those with plans for new homes.
For the longest time I have been a type of Eurosnob, you know those fans who want the MLS to be
like Europe. I am not a fan of the single table, nor am I a fan of only the ManUre's of the world.
I was only a Eurosnob about youth development. They have been doing it there for 100+ years so they
have to know how to do it.
Titi is in London this weekend for the unveiling of his Arsenal commemorative statue. We can only
hope the sculptor wasn't obliged to replicate his shoes n'gilet combo. We'd prefer not to have to
look at that for the next 100 years. Image: PacificCoastNews.com.

The Seattle Sounders won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title for the third consecutive time Tuesday
night by defeating the Chicago Fire 2-0, to the delight of the huge crowd at their CenturyLink home

Tonight there will be held the longest running US soccer tradition, the US Open Cup Final.
Almost 100 years of soccer tradition and almost no one knows about it or even cares. I really
started thinking about the US open cup because of the fact that a lot of supporters from our hated
rival like to point out that they have won the thing twice now and are in the final tonight.

Liverpoolfc.tv columnist Kristian Walsh looks at why we shouldn't take old faces for granted in

Managing director Ian Ayre has vowed that Liverpool FC will return to Malaysia after the
"unbelievable" welcome they received on their first visit to the country.
The Reds touched down in Liverpool on a high yesterday after a hugely successful eight-day tour of
the Far East.
The trip finished with a brief stop in Singapore where they held an open training session for
supporters but it was the time spent in Malaysia which will live long in the memory.
In the same week that Gloucestershire FA Chairman Roger Burden was elected Vice-Chair of the
national FA, there was another bit of good news from his 'patch.' Almondsbury Town FC will
continue, albeit a number of leagues below the league they ended last season in. Back in April
I wrote about how the Almonds, a club with more than 100 years of history, were evicted
from their home at Oaklands Park by none other than, the Gloucestershire FA.

The tournament that essentially inspired the World Cup had been watered down.
Little by little, Copa America had lost some of its prestige. CONMEBOL decided to implement a
two-year cycle in the South American tournament in the mid-1980s to give each nation a chance to
host the competition.

But here's three links to chew on for Tuesday:

Ok, many of you would have already heard the news... No it's not about Giggs and his Super

Last season there was a similar Volcano eruption which disrupted our travel plans to Milan.
The FA is all about supporting grassroots football isn't it? Well not if you are Almondsbury
Town FC and they evict you...
Almondsbury Town FC have been enjoying a great season. They are playing at the highest level in
the club's history with a decent squad of good local players.
Liverpool can count on their heritage to seal big sponsorship deals even if they are not playing in
Europe next season, the Premier League club's managing director Ian Ayre said on Thursday.
The five-times European champions, who share the record of 18 English league titles with Manchester
United, are in danger of missing out on continental club competition if a revival in their league
form does not repair a bad start to the campaign.
When the Wizards changed their name to Sporting KC I was a little upset, but I quickly got over
it. I kept telling myself that the ownership group will still embrace the Wizard name as a
nickname. Then I started talking to other people in the area. The response I got was not as
optimistic as expected.

In 2002, Liverpool announced plans to build a new 55,000 seater stadium on Stanley Park,
sparking a hot debate that has raged on from day one. Some demanded Liverpool stay and redevelop
Anfield, the spiritual home of the Merseysiders. But others disagreed, saying Liverpool needed to
move to Stanley Park to increase revenue from higher ticket sales.
Tom Werner has vowed to restore the principles on which Liverpool FC built their success.
But the Liverpool chairman insists he does not need to oversee a revolution at Anfield.
After a turbulent three-and-a-half-year period under former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, an
air of relative stability has been brought to matters off the pitch following October's
£300million purchase by New England Sports Ventures.
One of the problems we've faced with regards to the new White Hart Lane or Olympic Stadium
argument is mixed messages from all parties. It's been hard to understand exactly what's going on
from one day to the next. It's fair to say Spurs haven't been forthcoming with answers and it's
hard to see how they can be without potentially putting one of their options in jeopardy which is
something from a business perspective they're unlikely to do.
