While we all giggled and laughed at them throwing streamers at guys taking corner kicks, now it appears they're throwing beer and opposing players and fans.

Not cool kids.

Things came to a head recently in a match against Columbus.

And all the while, security -- there are 140 guards and between 24 and 48 police officers at every TFC game -- appeared to take no action against the beer tossers.

Let's see, this season thus far there have been issues with fans and security and yelling stuff and throwing stuff and all sorts of things across Major League Soccer. We've seen it boil over in Columbus, Toronto and New York.

So why not add Colorado to the list?

Apparently there were some sorts of problems at the Colorado-Columbus match on Sunday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

I know it's just a friendly, but it'll be interesting to see the internationals back into action, except this time, some of our new signings and our youth will be in the mix as well. This match is also a big one for Partizan, who will be receiving their league trophy for the 2007-2008 season. Reader Nicolas will be at the match, so hopefully he'll have lots of eye witness details for us.

The Columbus Crew released a statement, curiously not on their site, disputing the reports of a large brawl in the stands at their friendly against West Ham United. The problem, the Crew say, is that three West Ham supporters went into the Crew supporters section and caused trouble until security intervened.

In an audio interview with a Crew blog, Columbus GM Mark McCullers claimed among other things that:

* Toronto forced the league to take action that resulted in the Columbus enforcement of a ban against throwing streamers on the pitch in Columbus.

* He and DC United's front office gave birth to the Screaming Eagles (an organization which pre-dates United) and La Barra Brava.

I've been waiting to see how this plays out...

Throwing streamers at the opposing team has become the cool thing to do at soccer games in the US. Why? I'm not sure, but it opened a dangerous door. American soccer fans used be upset about things being thrown at our national team players in Central America, now American soccer fans are throwing streamers, beers, etc.

Due to actions at this past weekend's game at home vs Colorado involving thrown smoke bombs, the Columbus Crew's front office finally decided to take action against the "Nordecke". MLSR has been in contact with a security person at Crew Stadium and we have contacted him for comments which we may publish later on.

As we said in our "Last Word On Columbus" posting, we'd wait until after the league conducted their investigation and took whatever actions before writing anything further on Columbus. Well we have and have had time to see what if anything changed in the hearts and minds of Crew supporters.

The league had two responses to what occurred in Columbus during their game against New England.
