Auctions for the Galaxy Game

The Wizards are auctioning off a lot of different pre-game things for the upcoming game against the LA Galaxy. You can bid to be the pre-game entertainment, the national anthem singer, pick the charity to be the Kicks for Kids Donation, and the Color Guard Donation. Auctioning anything they can with the pregame has gotten the Wizards noticed by Freakonomics, a blog with the New York Times (thanks to Peter for sending this my way).

The one thing players stress about new Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena is his man management skills:

Watch out, Cristoph Metzelder just hoofed another clearance in your direction. Pregame odds were split relatively evenly between Spain and Germany. What I'd like to have seen where the odds that that ABC's pre-Euro 2008 final MLS tilt between DC United and the Los Angeles Galaxy would have been the more exciting affair.

Unfortunately, the tournament won't visit Atlanta this year as the Silverbacks fell 1-0 in Miami. Atlanta FC didn't make it out of the USASA qualifying round down in Jacksonville. It's a shame, I love this tournament and the craziness that can happen in it.

We've had one upset tonight, as Cleveland City scored two goals in extra time to defeat the USL-D1 Thunder in Minnesota.

Even while sitting in the stands, Joachim Loew was still a factor in the Germany vs. Portugal game. Loew's pregame decision to start Bastian Schweinsteiger proved to be a deciding factor in this game, as the Bayern Munich midfielder scored a goal and assisted on 2 others in Germany's 3-2 victory over Portugal.
