PDL: KC Brass Shutout Demize

Springfield MO Soccer @ 11:01 PM EDT

The Demize were shut out this evening, 2-0 by the undefeated KC Brass. The Demize love to attack, making for an entertaining game, but they came up on the wrong end of the score this evening. The Brass took the lead in the 28th minute on a heads up play by their midfield leader, Keith Gorczyca (Drake/MVC). While the Demize central defender was complaining about a non-call by the sidelines, Keith sent Jimmy Cummings into the box essentially unmarked with a throw-in.

Real Madrid Lift La Liga Trophy & Bid Beckham Adios

La Liga Talk @ 10:57 PM EDT
Real Madrid's 3-1 win tonight against Real Mallorca was a fairy tale ending to David Beckham's career for the Spanish giants tonight. In what must be described as a simply spectacular match, Real yet again came back from one goal behind to sneak the win. They've been doing it all season, but this night meant more than any other.
While Beckham played his part in the match for the first 60 minutes, it was the player who was substituted for him that took the glory and headlines: Jose Antonio Reyes, the Arsenal player, scored two brilliant goals to ignite the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium and to bring the La Liga trophy back home to the team in white. Man, oh man, have you ever seen a Fire team look that bad? I know they were missing players, but they've always been able to manage it. That they looked so out of place suggests that Sarachan hasn't prepared the bench well (i.e. Hudson) and/or they've made some bad draft picks. How one sees Donovan

Sideline Views @ 3:30 PM EDT
Landon doesn't much seem to care where he's placed on the field, though I'm of the opinion that he should refine one role so that he can play that part superlatively, rather then moving back and forth and to the side.

"I'm going to find spots, whether I'm in the midfield or at forward. When I'm wide, it's a little bit different, but it's learning for me.

OK. I haven't seen the game yet, which I know means I have failed you as a Fire blogger and myself as a Fire fan, but this recap from the DCenters says much about the state of the Fire: "These are the kind of games I dream of. Games where we get an early lead. Games where we extend that lead. Games that never seem in doubt. Games that, if one were perhaps ungrateful and churlish, you might say it was a bit boring at the end.

Mallorca should not give up late goals

Mallorca is one of the tougher defenses conceding 44 which compares quite favourably with Real's 39. However a majority of their 16 losses have come in the last minutes of the game. The last time Real met Mallorca, they beat them, 1-0 through a Reyes goal in the 78th minute. The Galacticos have made a killing of scoring late through a number of players, including Van Nistelrooy who is riding the hot hand.

Galaxy vs. RSL Preview: The Battle for the Cellar

This game could be a tough one for either LA or RSL, because today is the day where we may get the definitive answer to the following question: Which team is the absolute worst in MLS?

Unless, of course, we get a draw, which is a fair possibility. In which case both teams can hold hands and go skipping off into the sunset together, knowing that we can continue to share the "We Totally Suck" title.

Cobi less than thrilled

Cobi Jones has battled hard this season for his squad, and every time I see him fight for the ball, then pass to a teammate who promptly loses the ball, or make another quick run into space that doesn't get spotted by any passers, I think about how he probably didn't expect things to end this way. A lot of people are talking about how the Galaxy could ruin Beckham's first year by not making the playoffs, but I think it would be a far greater shame to drop the ball so badly on Cobi's final curtain call. The 204 Depot was in rare form Friday night during the Seattle Sounders match. Sunday round-up

Arseblog @ 4:22 AM EDT
Another quiet day ahead as the summer lull really takes hold. Wha little news there is concerns Thierry, naturally enough. When asked about the situation Keith Edelman said: These are decisions for Arsene. It's his job to manage the team and it would be up to him. That's how we've always worked with Arsene. Which is fair enough. [...] Click to continue reading...

Nothing confirmed, nothing denied

East Lower @ 4:17 AM EDT
It really is ghostly quiet out there this morning. There was some vague confirmation yesterday that Arsenal have done a deal for FK Haugesund's Havard Nordtveit, a 16-year-old Norwegian central defender who fits Wenger's transfer criteria like a silk glove. Young, foreign, reasonably-priced and with a name that takes some spelling. It's a welcome sideshow to [. Click to continue reading...

El Bergantin Pirata @ 3:23 AM EDT
That is what we need today. To have a chance of avoiding direct relegation Belgrano must win in their clash against Banfield and both players and fans will eagerly await the result between Newells and Nueva Chicago since a Newells defeat will send Belgrano packing. There is optimism, the fans will fill the stadium as always but unfortunately our chances hinge on what will happen elsewhere. Click to continue reading...

Another Cobi Pic. Because I Know You’ve Been Waiting.

The Offside - LA Galaxy @ 2:33 AM EDT

I promised you another Cobi Jones picture for his birthday, didn't I?

Stupid real life, getting in the way of my blogging.

But I have about half an hour of Cobi's birthday left here on the west coast, so we can still do this.

No, don't thank me. It's what I do.

Apparently I don't manage to publish those posts in time for their first anniversary. Probably I should just make it a habit to have them trail behind by two days every time. Motivational payments for Mallorca players?

Soccerblog @ 1:32 AM EDT

In a short while we will find out if Beckham bows out with a title in hand. Real is in pole position to win the La Liga as they have a head to head advantage over Barca. A win is the only way that Barca can retain the title with a Real loss or a draw. However Sevilla could take it all with a win on the last day and if Real and Barca lose.

"What?!? What are you doing?!?"

Who Ate All the Cupcakes @ 12:18 AM EDT
That was my reaction as the Silverbacks tried to sub in a defender in the fourth minute of injury time on Saturday night. "Oh, the Silverbacks were trying to protect a lead," you might say. Not so much, the score was 0-0 and we were well on our way to another frustrating home performance by the team. I saw the PDL team play a scrimmage this morning, and I saw the women play last night. R-I-V-E-R @ 12:00 AM EDT
River Plate's 3-2 win over Velez Sarsfield yesterday meant the end of a horrible season for "los millonarios". Despite not playing a great match, the team played well in certain moments of the game and had several players who played well. The best players were Diego Galvan, who was once again a starter after a controversial week, and Matias Abelairas (picture), who will get more minutes after the departures of Victor Zapata and Rubens Sambueza.
